I am having trouble with my SD. She is wanting me to buy inventory at this outrageous amount and I am not feeling confortable with it. I will place my order on Friday (because that's what she said), and I have only decided on about $600. She wants me to do about 3600. She is having a baby and is pressuring me to get this done. I know I do want just a little bit of inventory, but not thousands of dollars worth. How can I let her know without having her use her "MK Response" on me. I want to be firm, but not rude. I know she is going to come back with.. "You're not thinking of this like a business"  :yack:  Oh.. and another thing. I am not getting the training I need. She is totally more focused on this inventory than training me for classes and closings.  mad2 I know for sure I want to do this to make extra money but I need the tools to suceed. Does anyone have any suggestions.. PLEASE HELP.. ONLY HAVE 2 DAYS UNTIL I PLACE MY ORDER... :drama:

Do not let your  Kaybot talk you into ANYTHING that you do not feel comfortable with.  It will be your your debt, not her's.  She is not going to pay your bills.  If you only want to order $600, then do it.  Tell her that's all you are going to do, no more discussion.

I guess I have a type a quiet personality. I just hope I don't cave in to her "MK Respones" You know they have all that stuff memorized. She is kind of annoying me. I really want to do this business, but I wish I would have signed up with someone else.

Remind her that MK prides itself as a business where YOU are your own boss and run your business to suit YOU at your comfort level! Let her know that aspect is what helped to attract you. Let her know you understand this baby is probably her priority but yours is getting your business off to a well trained, successfull start. You appreciate her offers but since she's preoccupied right now maybe her senior could help you or a fellow director. Let her know you want inventory but not until you have the tools to move it. She also needs to be reminded that if you get buried in product you can't move and you end up panicking and sending it back- she'll loose all that commission. There are many women here who can be a testament to that.  We all know she won't want to pay that back! She wants your big order to help pay for that baby in the first place. Be firm now or you'll be inviting her to walk all over you from now on. As a matter of fact- I would make her wait until Saturday, or Monday (even if your ready Friday) make sure YOU set the rules!!!
This is YOUR business and YOUR money- take control!
Best of Luck!!!

I completely agree with what not tickled pink said.  You need to let the director know you will be doing this business on your terms only.  Once you do that, chances are she'll back off a little bit.  You should know that as a sales director, she has a minimum production level she must meet every month ($4000 or higher if she's a car driver) and towards the end of the month,   Kaybot tend to get desperate and pushy for orders.  Another thing you may or may not be aware of is $600 is not the minimum amount of inventory you can start with, $200 is.  Many  Kaybot including my own never gave that as an option.  Your director has additional incentive to have you come into the business "qualified" which means $600 or more.

I strongly urge you to tell her exactly what not tickled pink said about your priority being getting your business off to a well trained successful start.  And that you do not feel comfortable purchasing inventory until you feel like you have the tools to move it.

Best of luck in your new venture, and keep us posted! :hello:

Welcome!

My advice??  Do not add anything to your original $600!!  Keep that $300 for yourself...  If you need something you can always order later -- do not order too much just to save $8.35 on shipping.

And wait until someone orders something before you get it -- please do not get stuck with drek that will not sell like the rest of us did!

HEY TOMIGYRL!!!!! Guess who..... I'm glad to see you're on here. We have the same director, so it's nice to see my allie online, especially after just getting off the phone with you.

I would write down the things not-tickled said and have them handy if your director calls you.  That way you won't get flustered and agree to something you are not ready to do. Just keep in mind it is your MONEY and your debt if you incur it.  Believe me she will not be around to bail you out. Just my opinion. :shemademe:

Tomygyrl, she is not your boss. She does not pay you. She does not pay your rent. She does not feed your family.

Give her a clear message. Order $300 on June first. If she balks, just tell her you only order what you need and are following the inventory advice you read in the May Applause.

You are an INDEPENDENT consultant. You run your own business. You order when and how much YOU want to.

Remember, she only gets paid when you order.

Sorry, if I seem a little intense. This sort of thing really bothers me.

Stand up to her now, or she'll get control of you and your credit card.

Good luck.

Rena Tarbet, an NSD, taught me a long time ago that the only objection we cannot overcome is "I don't want to."  (You will learn about overcoming objections in training or on In Touch).  That works for us as consultants as well.  Make sure that you place the order, not your director, and you make it for whatever amount you want.  I recommend having inventory, but a new consultant does not need to start out with as much as she is recommending.  It's not like you only get one shot to order!  You can always order again if you need more product.  Let her know that you are only comfortable with $600, and if you see that you need more, you will order it later.

She will probably come back with "you are missing out on free product."  It is true that the more you order, the more free product you get, BUT if you respond with "I'm comfortable with $600.  I don't want to order any more right now," there really is nothing more she can say.

If she should continue, just keep saying, "I don't want to."

Also, if you order before June 15 (or 16th?  can't remember when new quarter starts) do NOT order eyeliner pencils.  They are all being changed.  Wait until the new ones come out and order those.

I am going to send her an email today. I really feel so much more confortable with ordering about $600 worth. After reading all of your comments it really confirmed what I was feeling and thinking. I won't let the Pink control me. I will control it. Thanks Guys..

You've already gotten such great advice! I agree with what has been shared; it's your debt, not hers. She's thinking about her new baby *baby and trying to get you, Busy NewBee and everyone else in the unit to fatten her comission check :bafraid:. Use the advice you've been given here (you've got a "There are a Couple of Reasons Why Not" script in the making!)

Trust me, once you get into debt and realize you want to scale back your inventory, the calls stop rolling in. I was a "star seller" in my unit; not pushy, rarely did SCC's (maybe 3 a year) and I think my customers appreciate that (I say they are still my customers because I'm still selling the stuff I couldn't send back- and I am able to get them what they need, thanks to this site! The trade board rocks!!)  :drawheart:  :chrldr2:  :drawheart:

My advice; place the minimum order amount you're comfortable with ($600) and reorder as needed. You don't have to order it al in one chunk, especially when you're not sure what your customers will be buying on a regular basis. Also, MAKE SURE YOUR SD PLACES YOUR ORDER FOR PRODUCTS YOU THINK/KNOW WILL SELL!! I say this because my director signed me up for at least one of each on every eye color, a billion of those blasted lip outliner pencils (someone take the last 4, PLEASE!!) and a few other thing that NEVER SOLD!! :tapfoot: I had no say in my initial inventory order. :didimiss: Needless to say, a lot of that was what went back in my box to corporate!! :bliss:

Work smartly. They always make it sound shameful to treat MK as a hobby. When you're starting out, I reccomend treating it like a hobby to protect yourself. You don't want to be out of any money if you don't have to be in the end. Order when you need to place an order. You only "have to" place an order once a year. After not ordering for 6 months, you stop getting Applause in the mail and you lose your recruits. After not ordering for 3, you have to place another to reinstate your 50% discount. Also, don't try to scrape together a $200 order if you only need a cleanser! Look for it here on the trade board. Save yourself the frustration!!  :chocdnce:

If you have questions about anything the SD or someone else "teachs you", ask someone here. You'll get a straight answer.  *welcome

:balloons: Thank you!!! She called me but I am at work so I didn't answer. I think I may know how she is going to react, but we'll see.  I am really ok about my decision to only place a small order. Its so funny how now after almost 2 months of this inventory talk with her, I'm finally confident about how much I want. I didn't realize how stressful it is to deal with her about this.  Thanks again everyone.. bighug
