Now of course, you'll have to have a FULL store, and order at least $ 600 a month to be a star!  And, in the event MKC doesn't approve of anything you do, your contract will be cancelled.  You can't sell your store or leave it to anyone, so you build no equity.  Then talk other women into doing this "business" so you can make $ off of their purchases!"  - Anyone interested?

"No Stars, No Cars!"  :yack: How often have I heard that one???? That was the lie that got me to come in as a Ruby Star. If I knew then that most who had cars were paying most of the bill themselves I would have said, "Thanks, but no thanks!"

The only REAL business associated with Mary Kay is the selling of products to consultants.  The "business" of a consultant is a facade... if it was a true business then (as was previously stated) consultants would have no restrictions on advertising, emails, web sites, store fronts, etc.

Bingo! This is something I have been saying for a long time. The company makes money on the consultants and how much the consultants order, not from the ultimate consumers. That is why the consultants are manipulated and strongly pushed into ordering huge amounts of product. The other thing that people may not realize is how much money a company like MK can make from their other side business deals. For example, the MK credit card, MK business cards and checks, MK sweatshirts, T-Shirts, MK carry bags and sales tools, or samples the consultant pays for in Section 2, or MK internet dial up service, or buying a Dell computer through MK (you get a discount but MK makes money on supplying Dell with a ready made customer list). This is not to mention the fleet of cars that are really just leased but the volume they do it in end up profitable for MK - consultants end up paying if they don't keep production up - once production does not meet the quota and the consultant can't pay anymore the car is taken back and all the payments made by the consultant go to waste. There are many more examples of this I can't remember them all now.

Then, as you say, the consultant can't even advertise her business as she wants, have her own website, control her own emails, or sell from a store. When consultants get stuck with old product because the company comes out with new product so often they can't even sell it off on eBay. Doesn'tit begin to sound like consultants are more like indentured servants to the MKC?

*BIG FAT EYEROLL*

RealisticPink did not just fall off the turnip truck. We've been listening to her defend the MLM business for going on what? 3 years now? She knows what we think. I don't know if she honestly thought her arguments were going to change our minds or what. Maybe it was just to get a rise out of people, and then complain that we are not "open and welcoming"? LOL

She's free to post whatever she wants here, but we've seen it ALL before and we can tear it up one side and down the other.

:trdmill:  She's got a whole blog devoted to this topic, and she's had it since 2006.

Can the apologies.

I forgot to add one thing with regard to the topic of working this like a business. In light of what I posted above, it seems to me that the MKC is treating everything in a businesslike manner. The consultants on the other hand, if they were thinking in the businesslike manner would never sign on for a business proposition such as this.

I'll second that! Whew....that was exhausting to read!

And I still think MK is a barely legalized scam!  :matoes:

I never wanted my own "business" at least not a cosmetics one. I was only looking for a part time gig. It's funny now, but I actually went in wanting a few extra hundred a month to pay off debt.  :laugh3: How crazy does that sound now, knowing what I know. You should have seen my face when the director tried to convince me to order $2400 on a credit card.  :faint:

So no, I never treated it like my business, my income or my life. I was told you can make "executive income" part time. What a crock. All I did was WASTE time. I was just happy that I didn't fall for getting into more debt with MK. I was in 6 months, sold a few things, returned my inventory for 90%. I think I figured out at the end, I profited about $30.  :teehee: SOOOOOOOO not worth the aggravation.
