I got an email the other day from our church secretary.  She was passing on a flyer that was about a new fund raiser for our building fund.  Surprise, surprise when I open it up to find a Mother's Day set up advertising Satin Hands.  Apparently, two of the members (one is still a director, my recruit has apparently lost her title of distinktion) were selling the SH sets at $5 off and would be donating $10 to the building fund.  All you have to do is order a set and mail them the check by their cutoff date.  So, I was a little disgusted and here's why:

First of all, my recruit, when getting started wasn't doing any kind of inventory.  When I started dropping off the MK radar, my director started sinking her claws in.  Her insistence was that without inventory, my recruit wasn't taking her business seriously and wasn't going to be successful.  Her fiance/now hubby wasn't willing to loan her the money and he refused to ask his father.  Director couldn't grasp that because she was so sure that the father was a business man and should understand.  Which is probably why he wouldn't go for it and the fiance was putting a stop to that.  So, anyhow, recruit goes to her cousin and asks him for a loan.  He says ok but with a condition, instead of paying him back, he wants her to pay the loan into the building fund for the church.  With that in mind, I read the flyer and was so icky feeling.  To me, the whole thing screamed "UNIT PRODUCTION".  There are tons of other things that could have been done to raise money for the church, even using MK products.  The fact that they are pre-ordering the sets?  This isn't someone trying to clear out the leftovers of a sales challenge.  This is someone trying to boost production during the countdown to seminar.

Ok, rant over.  Cynicism quota reached for the day, lol!

If I were in your shoes, I would sit down and write the church a heartfelt letter.  I would then not buy any of the MLM products and instead just give the building fund some money.  I would try to encourage my friends to do the same.

personally as a true fund raiser.... why not give the full 50% to the church??? they'd still get production....or even 45% to cover shipping and the sales tax difference....

There was an e-mail sent to the unit I'm in from my SD and it was about using Satin Hands as a fundraiser.  Selling satin hands for 27.00 and donating 10.00 for each set sold to the fundraiser.  It is to get you to order 40 sets of satin hands and get more with the free promo.  They're just trying to get production#'s up.  I just ignored it

AH HA!  I knew there was something more to it!  That makes me even angrier but here's the thing, you know how most churches in small areas have families that make the majority?  Well, both of these girls come from that family.  That being said, I don't think a letter is a good idea.  I think if opportunity comes up, I'll let my opinion be known.

Now, since I'm really out of the loop, what makes the Satin Hands set flawed?  Are we talking serious issue or just the fact that it's MK peach scented garbage and is the 40 sets a challenge from the company like before?

The smoothie scrub pumps won't re-close after you open them. You know how lotion pumps are when they are unopened at the store and you can sdrew them shut to take with you without getting lotion on all your stuff? Well, the MK folks messed up the pump design. They're trying to get rid of them all for the new "fixed" version to phase in.

Here's why the lasides at your church are trying to sell so many too (this e-mail is being circulated to cunsultants):

And you don't have to buy 40; it's what the directors are encouraging! The promotion is just the Buy 2 Get 1 Free.

As a church secretatry myself we have been hit up by a lot of MLM to have "fundraisers" for the church.  We did a Pampered Chef one that was a disaster.  People didn't receive thier items or wrong items.  We sold over 2000 worth of product and only received 324.00 for the fundrasier.  We do have a MK lady as a member of the congregation but she hasn't tried to push MK fundrasing down our throats yet.

Ugh, now this just gives me the heebie jeebies the more I know.  They're going to make out like bandits on freebies, hit unit production and move defective packaging.  Wow, all in the name of the church.

If I were to say anything, I'm sure I'd get some stink-eye from people since I haven't made much in the way of donations to the church for the building fund but I'd rather hand the church my $27 directly instead of more MK stuff rotting in my house!

I remember Tupperware did fundraisers years ago.  The nice thing about that was they had a little brochure with just about a dozen or so classic things that everyone wanted.  The profit was higher for the organization too.  I think it was simplified enough to limit the screw ups and overs.

I just have to wonder what happened to bake sales?

Ok this totally burns me up. mad3 mad3 mad3 mad3 mad2 mad2 mad2

I DETEST the church allowing anything like this.  There are a million things you can do to raise money for a building (auctions, spaghetti suppers, children's clothing resales--which make HUGE bucks) but the MK crap is just ridiculous. splat
