Thought this would be an interesting topic.  I saw a similiar post on another site but the responses didn't seem too friendly.  They were attempting to discuss scary locations of skin care classes.  I don't have any "scary" location ones, but thought there may be some "non-typical" SCC stories besides my own?  This is not, in any way, an attempt to judge anyone by any basis, race, color, $, etc., -- just wondering if anyone besides me has ever gotten into a situation that is definitely not the norm ?

My 1st SCC referral from website - call lady - extremely nice, book party, get directions to house, gives the color of vehicle in driveway.

Day before class happen to be in area, attempting to follow directions from memory - same color of vehicle in driveway "on blocks"   :nocmmnt:  Toys ALL over yard, driveway gravel, front steps in extremely poor condition - note to self, NO HEELS!  :ok:

Day of Class:  Arrive at class, lady comes out, enter back door - good so far, try to close door, no knob. :ooops:    Go into kitchen, sink FULL of dirty dishes (forget Satin Hands) :doh 4 - 5 children running around  :bliss:, 1 guest present, end up doing 3 little girls (I took pictures of them, before/after and they LOVED IT! ) The remaining guests show up - end up showing products to Hostess & 3 family members.

Made about $ 40 after expenses, gas, etc., if that.  Spent about 2 hours there, probably another 2 hours getting ready for class/packing/unpacking/working up orders and returning the products.  Maybe $ 10 / hour tops ?   :wtf:  Apparently I've been living on "executive" income for years!  :laugh3:

This lady was EXTREMELY nice as was her family, I'm not trying to discriminate or whatever. The girls had a ball and I was happy that they enjoyed it.  However, it was not a 'TYPICAL' skin care class as we were taught.

Unfortunately, this seems to be more typical than not!!!  More than once I've had to clear off a table while tripping over the dogs and kids toys   In all the classes I've done, I can pretty much say that not a single one went as I hoped or expected.  Always fewer people than expected, rude people chatting while I was trying to demonstrate, drinking wine and then not being able to make a decision, teenage daughter texting throughout the facial and then not wanting any of the products her mother wanted to buy for her, lady giving me a hard time throughout the class - not wanting to try anything - then telling me later on she sells Avon, woman who sits down at the table with five other guests and announces she tried MK once before and broke out in a horrible rash, facialing 11 women at an adult community and nine of them only buying the eyebrow pencil.  I don't even have a good memory or I would be able to come up with more.  Really does a lot for your self esteem!!!

I had quite a few, but the most "different" one was the one I did for some college girls who lived in a dry cabin.  That's what we call cabins here that don't have any running water/plumbing/etc. (hence the word dry).  I brought pitchers of water for them to rinse their faces and hands, and like Tam, I spent a good 6 hours if you include every aspect of it (booking, pre-profiling guests, etc.).  I got $75 in sales from 2 out of 7 girls.  Subtract from that hostess gift, hostess credit, prize basket prizes, gas, and the fact that only 50% of it can even be fathomed as profit in the 1st place, and that's pretty lousy.

Another memory  - the 1st time I sold one of my $299 roll-up bags I said to the lady "Really?!".  I had been in for 4 months and never sold one of those.  It just popped out of my mouth.

I had a customer/friend who I could only meet at our little girls' extra-curricular activity place, both her DD and mine went there.  Her schedule was crazy as was mine.  So she would sit in my vehicle in the passenger seat and try samples in the flip-down mirror.  Sort of a makeshift on-the-go appointment.  She bought 1 lipstick and 1 eyeshadow every year - same colors.

Maybe the "TYPICAL" SCC they teach went with the 60's & 70's with Mrs. Cleaver and Aunt Bea?

LOL, I love those stories! I don't drive so my classes were always at my house! Which is awesome but more tend to blow you off that way!

BUT,

I had a class were the woman who was the hostess was my ex-half step sister, she had told her guests that I was a wonderful cook and there would be a ton of food and drink for them! WTF? She called to get better directions when they were on their way and asked what all I was serving!!!!!! LOL I said a coffee cake and coffee. She was pissed! Had this woman NEVER been to skin care class???? Anyway, it turned out well, it was 3 adults and 2 teens {who were bored} but I sold $264-265, something like that. I also had 2 bookings, but both fell through!

I also had a friend come over for a facial, did my thing and asked her what she was interested in and she looked at me and laughed and said "ain't gonna happen", I'm not buying anything, I was here to help you because you said you "just started in MK" and I find out that you've been doing it for 2 months, what's up with that, you didn't just start out". I said "Nikki, 2 months IS just starting out!" She said "Well I use Jaffra, because my aunt sells it".
I think she was just getting back at me for not using her as my real estate agent when I bought my house {a tiny house}. She was extremely busy at the time and when I asked to look at houses, she just printed me out some listings and told me to get back to her. I needed an agent who was motivated!

Anyway, oh and I sent her a couple of invites to various MK things I was doing and she told me to stop emailing her with those!

She must have felt guilty later in the week because she sent me an email asking me to sell her 2 sunless tanners, I deleted her email and have never spoken to her since!  :nutzo:

WWIT, I have a friend like yours. I haven't really spoken to her in about 2 years. She always wanted me to come to various home parties. I went to a couple and actually bought a sympathy item. When I joined MK, she told me flat out she didn't want to buy any but she keeps inviting me to Pampered Chef parties. I just delete the emails too.  :teehee:

These stories are pretty funny. I was only in MK a short time and never had any skin care classes at anyone's house that I didn't know.

I agree that the typical SCC probably did go out in the 70s. People are much more security minded and less trusting these days. And who has time to have a stranger come and sell you stuff. I would rather go to Walmart. It's easier, cheaper and it gets me out the house for a bit.  :teehee:
