Now, I am hard headed, but I do want the stuff in the starter kit. I already have someone who wants to buy some of the foundation samples to use for practice for the girls she's coaching for pageants, and a co-worker who wants one of the cleanser/moisturizer sets from the kit.. I also found a teacher who wants the black bag that you slip the brochure it, she wants to use it for her summer field trips so she can carry a cute bag that's not too large amd slip her checklists in the side of it.
I'm amazed by how many women know what's in the starter kit, the teacher said she's purchased a few from ads she's seen online for people looking to unload theirs. She gives the brochure tote(?) to the other teachers at her school whenever she can find them. So I've pretty much made back what I paid for it. I have a few co-workers and bible study friends who spread the word that I'm selling, and they're all wanting to get the stuff they currently use. So I'm excited about that. I told them all I plan on getting out of this very, very soon. It's amazing, I told them I don't want to do it, so everyone is rushing to order before I get out.

Well don't get too caught up Busy (oops I called you "new" over in the exercise thread). It's easy to get caught up in the hype and spend WAY too much! Only order what your friends want and will pay for!!!!!!

And that's the next tricky part, does my director have to place my first order for me? I already have 4 things that people need purchased, and I just got my info to log onto the website today. I'd rather just order as I need it, and then move on with my life.
And What Was I Thinking, thank you for telling me to not get too caught up. I love free and cheap stuff (and going back to school full time and working part time at the age of 26 does make you panic and want to make more money), so I do want to hunt down samples and stuff people are getting rid of for free or next to nothing so I can learn how to better use makeup and glam myself up.
I went back to school almost 2 years ago, after entering the corporate world 2 years before that, so I really let myself go. I'm excited about the starter kit, and want to order the sample kit of all the colors so I can try the stuff out. I did find a director that quitting and has a new unused sample kit and is selling it way too cheap to me, I keep offering her more, close to the actual cost, but she said she just wants to unload it and would rather give it to a young lady who will have fun playing with it, than a shark who will rope someone else in. AND she let her little dog pee in her pink Caddy, I think that's the coolest thing ever. She won't join the sight because she's scared of the Internet, but I'm determined to get her to join!!!!!!

NO!!!!! No matter what crazy things your director tells you, you can do your own orders. Just log on to intouch and click the "Online Ordering" button at the top of the page. HTH

just be careful that you do have to have that min of $200 wholesale to get that first order placed...they won't even let you put the order thru if it's not that much for the first one...

ALSO remember that you have to buy at least $400.00 Retail ( $200.00 wholesale) to get the 50% discount! Your director will say "why not order $400.00 more wholesale and you will be qualified". What that means is she gets more prizes, more commission etc.!!!!!! It won't benefit you in any way!!!!!!! Don't do it unless you have that much in orders from your friends and family!!!!!!!!!!! Best of luck in your schooling too!!!!!!

Actually, several years ago one of my recruits did her first order for only $80 retail. It let her place the order for below $400 retail, $200 wholesale. The only catch was that she paid $80. I had been selling to her for a discount, so she actually paid MKC more than she had been paying me.

If you're nervous about placing your first order on your own, sit down with a paper-order form and check off the products you want. Make sure they add up to $400 retail.
Then phone your order in yourself (call the Distro Branch nearest your home). The folks who answer the phone are very helpful and generally friendly and can talk you through the ins and outs of placing your first order. I recommend this for new consultants who want to do it themselves but can't navigate around the online-system.
For the last 8 years, I've done 99% of my orders myself, on the phone in the first couple of years, till I got the hang of it, and then online. Sometimes InTouch is just janky and you can lose orders and it can frustrate you. The only time my director has done an order for me is when I've waited until the very last day of the month (keep that in mind this month since there's a Holiday next week also).
If you place your first order this month (May 2007), you will have Earned Discount Privilege from the day you order until July 31, 2007. EDP is the ability to order ANY amount, even if it's under $400 retail, and still get your 50% discount.
If you do not place another $400+ retail order between now and 7/31/07, on 8/1/07, you will have to place another $400+ retail order to keep your 50% discount.
The most successful Personal Use Consultants I know treat it very much like Avon. They distribute catalogs to their customers and inform them of what day they are ordering. They collect all monies before the order date and then deliver after the products arrive. You can choose to do this once a month, once every other month, or once every 3 months. If someone needs something right away within the range of your EDP, you can always order it and pass the shipping costs onto the customer if they are in that big a hurry for it. Or you could utilize the trading boards here or another consultant in your unit who has a semi or full inventory.
But whatever you do, keep other people's hands off the finances and ordering aspects of your business! Only use YOUR credit card/debit card, never allow a Director to pre-pay your orders on her card (or someone elses), never do "split-piggyback" orders with another consultant or allow another consultant to split-piggyback onto yours.
As for taxes, find a local tax preparer who has LOTS of experience with Direct Sales taxes. Keep meticulous records and receipts and take with a grain a salt anything said to you from non-professional-tax-people (ie: those in MK) about what is deductible and what is not. Being Personal Use should not hurt you at tax time because you most likely will not be getting many taxable "freebies" from the Company, nor earning high commissions if you are not recruiting. But again, listen to your tax advisor.
Good Luck! Hope this helps.

I was Personal Use and it was such a big mistake.....you spend a lot of money and stuff you can get cheaper, with more variety, then you can with MK....

Send it back.... I am still a consultant, but I order once every 11 months... and it's not easy getting to that $200 wholesale total. Plus, it' hard to know what people want, so you end up ordering too much, get stuck with inventory & then you just give the stuff away because "it's there". (Ok... sounds like I've had that issue!!! YES!) You are lucky you found this site, I didn't & signed the agreement bought too much inventory and ended up with lots of problems that all of the girls on this site have. I won't deny... I like the product line but the directors are too pushy & sell a dream that turns into a nightmare. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!

Also bear in mind, Bee, that the demos in your starter kit are full-sized, and packaged for resale, so you can sell those at full retail if you haven't opened them yet.
I don't know if it's changed, but a couple of years ago, my starter kit came with full-sized foundations.
Of course, for weekly meetings, we were told we had to have them out of the box to use them, and there went my retail potential!
By the way... I don't reccommend personal use either. It's a huge hassle that can become catastrophic should you somehow acquire a customer outside of your close family/friends circle.

chiquita, you can get almost anything you want here for w/s or trade! No reason to order from MK anymore!
I'm glad to see you are reading around a bit and posting.
