roflOMG, I remember other directors giving those out- I think the worst I gave out was, in my basket they could choose from each week, in addition to section 2, samples, etc, I had the lips/lipstick cookie cutters- let me just say, the lip cookies are kind of cute, but that lipstick cookie? Anyone ever use it? Well, I did- I tried to make those cookies to have as a snack for my unit, and the lipstick cookie, once cooked, looks a little, well, vulgar, if you know what I mean. It no longer had the details of a lipstick tube- I think you're all catching my drift. Anyway, we all got a good laugh out of those-

I got a "Dazzle in December" bracelet for ordering 40 items even if it was for personal use (That was December's Promo) Well I got the bracelet and found that it was held together with a thin elastic piece and it broke the first time I wore it. My director was Oh that's sooo beautiful on you. PUKE!

I won the same prize 3 or 4 times in a row...a crappy elastic bracelet, and 2 of them still had the price tag on them...for placing the highest order in our unit I ended up getting a bracelet that cost her $.65....it was from a reputable store, but had all the orange markdown stickers on it... Boo apparently she loaded up on the $.65 bracelets, and unloaded them all on me...now my girls wear them around the house for dress up so I guess it was worth something I also was awarded a couple pairs of shoelaces...yippee!

I joined about 6 months ago for personal use and have NEVER held a class and NEVER gone to a meeting, so I haven't seen any of the "prizes" my Director offers the unit in her regular e-mails.
But, one of the prizes she regularly offers, which I always thought was a great idea, is herself for a day. ie: She does anything for your MK business that you want her to do - you can even schedule 2 classes on a Sunday and she holds them and sells for you.
Compared to a $1 bracelet, I always though it was a good idea because she makes you confident about selling and gets you to now go and buy even more inventory, earning herself a big commission.
From reading all these posts, I don't understand why more directors don't do smarter things like that. In the long run, if they have a solid base of recruits who sell, don't they make more money than trying to frontload on a few people, who will then send the product back, requiring them to return commission?

They don't do things like that because their time invested doesn't result in the kind of money she'd get from massive frontloading and just sheer ordering from her consultants. To do it "smartly" (which I am impressed by that prize actually), you'll be working your behind off for 20 years to get a decent enough sized unit of women who know how to sell and therefore place regular reorders. And, 20 years later, you're still barely making enough to cover your expenses.
For an example, I used to "waste my time" (as my Sr used to like to tell me) by helping my consultants sell all the time. I once went to an ALL DAY open house that a consultant in my unit held at her very large company. She ended up selling about $1000 that day. I thought - yippee, she'll place a $500 order to replace what she's sold. She actually placed a $200 order. So, I got $44 in commission for my whole day's effort. And that's 22% because she was a personal recruit of mine. Even if she had placed that $500, I would have only gotten $110 for about 8 hours of work - on my feet, in hose and heels. And I actually didn't even like this woman and had to spend 8 hours with someone I did not care to.
I made $5.50 per hour that day that I worked "smarter", which was actually less when you took out my expenses (gas, food, and catalogs etc I brought her that she didn't have) and then taxes. I probably took a loss for helping her. I pretty much did that all the time thinking my payoff would be in the end when I had a unit of sellers. It just doesn't work. Your unit members drop off faster than you can train sellers and you just don't have time to do massive recruiting AND train on selling and then do your own business. There's no way.

I agree Baroness! My sr. would tell me to stop trying to save the world and keep recruiting. I spent sooooo much time training on product knowledge and holding appt. with and for my unit members. It did NOT pay off at all! I don't know how people can recruit once they finally get it that it is virtually impossible to make a decent living doing things ethically.

Well, they probably end up here! By the time I figured that out, I was so disenchanted that I had basically quit recruiting, and then quit directorship. I couldn't in good conscience keep recruiting women when I didn't even believe it. Except that at that time, I thought the problem was with me, not MK, and that I couldn't make it work.
