So this MLM scam that sells jewelry (Lia Sophia) must be getting desperate, cuz this got sent to my p1nkcadillac@yahoo.com addy - and the only way she got that address is if she found my blog or something. giggle

"This could be the opportunity you've been waiting for. Be one of the first Advisors in your state to represent a BEAUTIFUL line of Jewelry. I thank god every day for the woman who shared this with me. I am a mother of 3, ages ranging from 21 to 10. I was married at a young age and never had the opportunity of a College Education. I started working part-time which lead to full-time to help make ends meet. When my daughter was in high school and we were looking at Colleges I thought to myself "how in the world am I going to manage this" so I got another part-time job stashing everything extra to my secret college fund. It really was becomming quite stressful never enough time to spend with my family always working and never enough money. A year ago I was invited to a lia sophia Jewlery show and was so impressed with all the pieces I literally wanted one of everything and that was definately out of the question. I went home and thought about what the lady had said about the business and how much money she was making only working a few hours a week. Which by the way was more then both my jobs combined. I thought to my self "nothing ventured nothing gained" and I became an Advisor for the company. It has been the best decision I have ever made. I am now able to pay for my childrens College and by having my own business I determine my own success and when I want to work which allows me more time for the important things in life. I can't say enough what this opportunity has brought to my family's life. We can actually take vacations now, I was able to purchase a new car for myself and I never have to live paycheck to paycheck anymore. Whether your a stay-at home mom looking for something to do; have a job but are looking to supplement your income, or just looking to have lots of fun(wearing faboulous jewelry!), this is the opportunity you've been looking for. START LIVING YOUR DREAM and YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL. I have met so many fantastic women this past year and I love the fact that women are inspiring women to become so successful in living their dreams. Having had such a wonderful opportunity shared with me about a company I had never even heard of, would be totally selfish of me not to share it with all of you. See for yourself what all the buzzz is..From the Fashion Runways of New York to Hollywood's RedCarpet we have taken the fashion scene by storm. Our Jewelry has been in several major Fashion Magazines as well as worn by many A-list celebrities. I literally make over $100 an hour having fun and wearing the worlds most FASHION FORWARD jewelry on the market. This could really be a GOLD MINE for anyone interestead in starting the trens in your state. Just imagine what the woman who introduced Party-lite or Tupperware to your state earns. You could have 100"s of women on your team in no time earning $1000's per week. PLEASE visit www.liasophia.com/bethsautter My average weekly paychecks are about $1000 since I have become a manager!!!!!Please feel free to call me with any questions you may have I look forward to hearing from you. As of this date there are only 10,000 advisdors in the United States which means we are not so over populated and many states have less then 100 Advisors, yours is one of them."

You know, this is such a cheesy scam, that I get embarrassed all over again that I fell for some of the same crap in Mary Kay. *sigh*

On another note, some nasty MLMer went on my blog and collected all the email addresses she could from the people who posted, and started spamming them with her latest MLM gig. Even after I banned her and basically told her to go jump off a cliff. SHe was really vicious....can you believe how desperate these women get? If only they could see how everyone else views them - yikes.

O my....I saw she posted almost the IDENTICAL paragraph on Sandy's Blog!  What a crazy life!  So glad to be rid of it!  Hmm I wonder if we could do some substitution for MKisms in this blurb- might just sound like a recruiting idea for  Kaybot! We should try it and see how many end up on unit net sites!  rofl

stunned  Wow - this smacks of desperation! She must be trying to reach some goal of recruiting.

Their jewelry isn't even that good anyway - I bought a couple pieces at a party a friend had (pity purchase) and it took a long time to get it delivered and even though it was pretty, one of the pieces broke after I wore it once.

She posted this on my blog today also.  I left it on there, but took out her personal information.  Normally, I would delete spam, but I figured I would leave it on there so others can see how foolish she sounds.

And how many women can afford to buy ten tons of jewelry???  To our credit, a consumable product at least sounded plausible to make money with...

OK, I really hate to say this - but I know Beth personally.  I, too, am a lia sophia advisor and must say that I am just mortified that she does this.  I won't even try to defend why I chose to join LS or the jewelry - everyone is totally entitled to their own opinion, if you want to ask me about either, feel free!!

Here's what she inadvertently did to me - she started sending these things out a little over a month ago - right about the time I had finally confessed to my MK director that I was getting out of MK and that I had joined LS.  Literally, the next day, my director gets an email from Beth telling her about LS and what a great opportunity it is since there are so few in my state, blah blah blah (Beth is in Illinois, I'm in Oklahoma).  My director's comment when she forwarded me said email was "Guess they aren't very Go-Give in that company, are they?"  I was MORTIFIED!!!!!  The reason Beth started doing these is because she really is desperate to build her own team before she gets surpassed by her downline.  I just think it's so wrong to go trolling for team members blindly (seems like warm chattering via the internet to me and just feels dirty), not to mention that it's wrong to troll for team members who belong to other companies!!

I will be forwarding this to my friend & manager in IL who sees Beth regularly and she can decide if she wants to share with Beth that she is being mocked, making a fool of herself and probably isn't putting forth the imagine she wants to.

I'm sorry ladies - I'm embarrassed for her and for me.  Don't hate me because I like jewelry!!  I'm in LS so that I can pay off my MK debt (currently at $15K)!!

Anthony'smom:

disregarding Beth for a moment -- YOU JOINED AN MLM TO PAY OFF THE DEBT FROM YOUR LAST MLM??
Oh dear. It looks like we still have a lot of work to do.

First of all, let me say, it is impossible to make anything more than pocket change with these MLM party plans. Secondly, if your MK debt is $15k, and you're making monthly payments on a credit card for this amount, you will most likely not even be able to make the payments using the proceeds from LS. Once you get all your family and friends to have a party for you with LS, where will you go from there? The jewelry doesn't have that whole "reorder" thing going for it, and even if you like the pieces they are still way overpriced.

I hope you will consider an alternate form of employment to pay off your debt, because using one MLM to fix the mess from another is not the soundest business strategy. If you love jewelry so much, why don't you learn to make it yourself, and set up a shop on Ebay? M.WisenTimer (from this board) makes jewelry, and she has a lot of good tips for getting started. You could always make the jewelry similar to what Lia Sophia sells, and then undercut them on price! ha haa

I know I opened myself up for this, all I ask is that you be gentle...when I joined LS, I was very disillusioned with MK and was attracted to LS as there were no advisors in Oklahoma.  My LS manager, who is a good friend and truly is a lovely woman, paid for my starter kit, so there was $0 investment out of the starting gate.  I keep no inventory, except what I take to shows.  All of that has come from jewelry premiums that have been earned through sales.  No pressure that I have to order more to be able to display more.  I am making money, have been since my first show in June, and am more than paying my credit card bill and my 16-year-old's private school tuition.  I am paid commission directly from the company and only when I actually make a sale to a customer.  Our jewelry is guaranteed for life and can be returned for any reason, including if someone just doesn't like it any more.

My family/friends have done their shows (I started in June), I am now well outside of my circle and am finding no shortage of women who want to have an LS show - it's new, we have a great hostess plan (which costs me $6 per show - my hostesses average $500+ in free jewelry and that's with a minimum show), and we have great customer specials every month, which helps with the view that our stuff is overpriced.  I work very hard to make sure that my hostesses get as much jewelry as possible and that the guests get the best deal possible.

It was a personal decision for me to join LS as opposed to working a part-time job (I already work full-time).  I considered my options, including what I could make working part-time at a department store, waiting tables, or something similar.  I really have no desire to make jewelry - I admire others who do, but I've tried before and I really stink at it.  I am also selling stuff on ebay right now - my MK prizes, trinkets, etc. and that's helping to pay off the debt.

I know there are many out there who will disagree with my decision.  I just wanted to comment on Beth's posting.

I'm amazed that you are making enough money just from sales to pay off the debt! But if you are, then that's great. Honestly, if you are not stocking up on the stuff, and you aren't required to make minimum purchases from the company to stay active, then yee ha!

Perhaps you are making money because LS doesn't have many reps where you live? Maybe the market just isn't saturated yet there, which is good for you - but I wouldn't try to recruit anyone. You'll just be recruiting your own competition and starting the whole "more reps than customers" problem.

I understand you don't want to be blasted for joining an MLM, but since I think the recruiting aspect makes them scams, I can't keep my mouth shut. I have some friends (a married couple) who kept trying MLM after MLM, because they thought they just needed to find the "right one". They finally figured out that MLM is a scam, but only after they'd lost thousands of dollars and had nothing to show for it.

For that reason, when I see people doing the "serial MLMer" thing, I try to warn them.

I appreciate your warning!  Yes, I am making enough from sales to pay off the debt, which is a relief.  There is a requirement to do at least $250 in actual sales every 3 months, but that's it.  And it's actual sales, not just me ordering inventory.  That was the key to me joining LS - no inventory, in addition to no deliveries; the hostess plan is provided by the company, not out of my profit; discounts are given by the company; and the guarantee is handling directly through the company, not through me.  All of that takes so much of the nit-picky work off my shoulders and puts it where it should be - on the company's shoulders who we represent.  And it's not all rah-rah like MK - which is a HUGE relief!!  No weekly meetings, no warm stalking, no cold calling, no looking at every woman with skin thinking "prospect".  I wear the jewelry and if someone asks, I tell them the brand, that it's new to OK and ASK if they'd like a card.  If they say no, that's just fine with me!

I'm sure part of the reason that I'm making money is because there aren't many reps here and that was another reason to join.  In comparing the number of LS advisors nationwide (approx. 11,500 - it's large than Beth indicated) to the number of MK consultants (800K) - the saturation level just isn't there.  Not even close.

I made money on my second attempt at an MLM, too.  I sold Longaberger, didn't recruit at all and just did it to have something that was "mine".  And I loved the product, it was something you couldn't get anywhere else and my area also was not oversaturated.

There are plenty of people who are "into" jewelry.  I'm not, but I have friends who love, love, love it.  Surprisingly enough, there are a lot of people who are into baskets.  Unlike MK, a lot of these companies do not automatically assume that everyone MUST love their products and will want to buy and sell them.

After you've been in MK, you definitely can see the differences in MLM companies.

IMO, MK is really one of the worst of the worst, right up there with Herbalife and Amway.

Good luck!

I could so easily become a "serial MLMer"...I get invited to these parties all the time, and am always checking out the "opportunity"  I was just at a Lia Sophia party the other day, and my sister in law actually took the flier away from me just as I was figuring out how much money I could make smiley  She told me to wait a couple years before I jumped off another cliff.  Anyway, kudos to those of you who have made it work, but as for me I think for the time being I will deal with the aftermath of MK - I also think that right now I would be way to embarrassed to call my friends and family to get them to book a party with me  Bash
