I've got a few friends who are selling energy/electric service and I was wondering if anyone has been approached about it? I can't remember the actual company name, but everyone is like, "you only have to get 3 recruits, then you become a manager." They also claim to make money (but not much) for you actually switching your service to theirs. They basically profit from their "downline".  groan

It doesn't sound right to me. It feels alot like what is done in MK;  Liar to make a buck) The founders travel around the country and tell people their stories of how much they're making, etc. in hotel ballrooms (feels like "love checks" and success stories to me again!) Is there any legitimate business where you can work from home and really see some financial success?

How do you warn friends against the decision if they think it's a great idea for a business venture? ???

Hi Sassy.  If you think of the name I hope you'll post it.

Frankly, I wonder how this is even possible.  I used to work for an energy provider at a generating station.  I know in my part of the country, this is extremely regulated.  You can't just go the "electric company" and say that you want to sell power at so many cents on the dollar over what they sell it and form a partnership.  The utility owns the transmission lines and the power that's produced.  Municipalities and rural co-ops buy percentages of what is produced.  I'm not sure if an individual or even a group would be able to touch that.  I know in my state there is one and only one concern providing electricity to the entire state.

Maybe it's different elsewhere  hmmm but I doubt it.  You're right to be concerned.  If I find any more concrete info, I'll post it. smiley

Is it called "Ignite" or Stream Energy?

It's based in Texas I think - you guys remember that guy who was in internet prostitute and a director in Mary Kay?Well, when he ran for the Texas House, he was selling Ignite.

Ignite had HUGE threads and discussions devoted to it on Quatloos a couple months back - they dissected the comp plan (which sucked) and the backgrounds of the people who started that MLM. It's a big huge slimy scam.

All MLMs are pretty much losers - pyramid scams never make good business investments. tongue The sister site for this one is www.500workathomejobs.com, which is for people who have REAL businesses that they started. The only other options for working from home legitimately (besides starting your own biz) is working freelance and charging people for your services, whether it be accounting, editing, or some other skill you may have.

Joining an MLM where you sell a crappy product? Waste of time and money.

Wow PC, how interesting.  I went to Quatloos and did some other searches.  Energy resellers hmmmm.  My area is still under one producer/provider so I wasn't aware of this.  Well, as Alanis would say..."You live.....you learn."  One of the things I just love about living. smiley

But.....a MLM under any other name is still a MLM.

My coworker (whos partner is a realtor is doing it "on the side" to make extra money, and my other friend wants to quit teavhing, so she signed up. Now, she's trying to sign my parents!  Boo They will be warned- thanks so much!

I'm with you, PR! I just wish they would stop trying to sell others teh "dream" if they aren't really making it themselves. It's almost like they're saying "My goal is to bring you down with me- we're in this together!" it makes me  Bash frustrated!
