Okay ladies, I just signed up for Mary Kay a few days ago (literally: Monday), and have received enough requests from people to order the things they want before I quit within the next few months.

I come from a family of Avon fanatics (even myself, which is why I feel so dumb), and would really like to switch over to Avon because if I stay with Mary Kay, I only had the intentions of doing it as a PUC, until I found out all the ordering stipulations.   faint

I'm such a flake when it comes to sticking to one color, that's why I like the affordability, and variety, of Avon over MK.  Plus, my mom and aunt (and now godmother and a few co-workers) have been raving about the Anew line. I actually used a sample of a few things and saw great results, unlike the MK sample I was given for Timewise where I didn't see a difference after 10 minutes. Once again, I should have opened my brain and not my ears.   :rosey:

Is Avon a better company if you'd like to get involved so you can get discounts for you, family, and friends. How does it work, do you have to order so much so often like MK?  And is there a minimum inventory purchase, and what are the directors like?

I would appreciate any advice anyone can offer. What is the discount rate? Will I have to recruit others?  I'll stop asking and just start reading answers.

 :thnkyou: Ladies!!!!!!

I am not sure the exact details of AVON but MLMs are all the same, somewhere along the line it turns out to be a scam. Now if you sign up to do it just for personal use then thats one thing but dont let anyone conn you into anything else.
I too have been using MK products for about a year, I dont see it making much of a difference. I still have the same issue i have had for years. BUT it doesnt make it worse so i am just trying to use up what i have. I like MK's colors but like you said, if you want to switch around then avon is def more affordable. After my personal MK stuff is gone i cant wait to try some new brands. I've used avon in the past. I love their nail polish, it stayed so well!!!

I've never done Avon, just MK.

Here's how ordering really works;

1.Order only when you need to place an order.
2.You only "have to" place an order once a year to keep your status as a consultant.
3. After not ordering for 6 months, you stop getting Applause in the mail and you lose your recruits (I think they go under your director then).
4. After not ordering for 3 months, you have to place another order to reinstate your 50% discount.

Golden Rule: Don't try to scrape together a $200 order if you only need a cleanser! Look for it here on the trade board. Save yourself the frustration!!   :chocdnce:

Busy- Just a consultant; I signed in 2004. I came across PL last year and started reading up on some of the things my director told me that just didn't sound right (ex. they have to place you first order, it has to start at $600, you need $1800 in inventory to do this part time, etc.)
I'm so glad these forums exist so people can see what they're getting into before buying ridiculous amounts of income and going into this endavor blindly. Don't blindly follow the dream!! If you can make money selling MK, do so. I just want you to be smart and learn from our mistakes.

Hi Busy Bee, I have been an Avon representative for 9 years and I love it.  You can become a representative for only $10.00.  You start at 50% commission for the first 2 months while you are getting established and after that it depends on how much you sell.  From 20% to 50%.  There is no inventory required.  The brochure is your store.  There is a new brochure every 2 weeks and you place an order every 2 weeks.  No minimum order.  You can sell to yourself, friends, relatives, neighbors, etc.  The products are wonderful (of course I think so!) and the people you meet are awesome.  You do not have to recruit!  No, no, no, never!

If you are have more questions, e-mail me at bettyavon@aol.com.  If you want to get signed up I will find a nice person in your area to help you.

Thanks, Betty

Betty,

Not sure what your intentions are here, but I doubt you'll find dedicated recruits on this board. I see that this is the only post you've made, so I'll assume that you're here for that purpose only. Understand that you're being disrespectful to what this board is about, as most of the people here want no part of an MLM (which Avon is) and/or are recovering from their bad experiences in MLMs.

You're more than welcome to stay if you respect what this forum is about and please do not solicit the members.

Thanks!

Sorry, my only intention was to answer the questions asked.  Definitely not recruiting!

Busy,  It sounds like you are really confused as to what to do about Mary Kay.  You posted that you signed up, had reservations, then you posted that you were very excited about receiving your starter kit, and now I see this post that you want to sell Avon?

I'm not putting you down or anything, I'm just concerned that you haven't really thought fully about your decision.  Maybe you should just check around this board more before jumping into something else.  Everyone here will be happy to help with any concerns you may have.

Busy-

I had a neighbor that did Avon last year. It's true that it only costs $10 to sign up...BUT...she sank a lot of money into samples, business cards, brochures, etc, because she wanted to make it a business. She found out too late that the market in our area was completely saturated, and people regularly drove through our neighborhood blanketing it with Avon catalogs! So she lost some money.

As long as you're not trying to make a business out of it, I don't think you'll get burned. Same with any MLM - if you love the products and just want a hobby that's gonna cost you money, it's great!
