Rockin' and rollin' at the lighthouse!

« on: August 01, 2006, 04:10:42 PM »

OK names have been removed but I got this today...

I’M SHOOTING FOR A $1000 DAY!!!
HELLO!!!
Exciting News! I’ll come right to the point. I am in our annual sales contest, and in order to qualify I must have a $1,000 in retail sales in one day! Sounds like a lot, doesn’t it? Well, I’m hoping this is where we can help each other:
I am asking all of my preferred customers, family members, and friends to check out my website www.marykay.com/ ;D, it contains all of our new, up-to-the-minute products! If you need a catalog because you do not have Internet access please let me know and I’ll over night one to you. Now is the time to stock up on birthday gifts, holiday gifts, and you own personal products.
Wednesday August 2nd, is THE $1000 Day! Phone your order to me at  wink (home)  Cheesy OR  :o (cells). Please leave a message if I am not immediately available. I must have your order no later than 10:00 P.M. It is my policy to have product on hand at all times and I want to have it for you that day. I will be happy to deliver or mail your order, or you may pick it up at my house . Whichever is best for you. If you order any products that I do not have in stock I will place an order that evening after 10:00 P.M. and I should receive it the following Monday and you will get your product mailed to you that day and receive it within a day or two.
In return for your support, I will be giving out special discounts throughout the day of the event, see below. AND….When I reach my $1000 goal, ONE lucky customer will get their order FREE !! If you place an order of at least $10 with me, your name will be entered into the drawing. Then with every additional $10 spent, you will have your name entered an additional time. For example: $50 in product would enter your name 5 times, $100 would enter you 10 times and so on. WHEN I reach my goal, I will draw the winning name and that person will receive their order free!
Check Carefully for our newest products. As a preferred customer, I would be happy to spend some time with you one-on-one or share an hour with you and two or three friends to select the perfect "Color Look" for you!
I am tickled pink about this challenge! Since it’s impossible to contact everyone by phone I felt writing to you was best. I appreciate you and THANK YOU for helping me achieve my goal! Please feel free to pass this offer on to your friends and family who do not already have a Mary Kay Consultant!!
Sincerely, Independent Sales Director and Future Cadillac Director

I got a very similar e-mail from my director. She was trying to get the entire unit (well, those of us who attend meetings) to do $1,000 day and I think we got a bracelet or something for doing it. No one even came close. . .

And sending this out to my customers, NO WAY! I respect them more than this.

If someone sent me that email, I would tell them I don't want any MaryKay but if they are that desparate for money, I would gladly give them a donation. Where's their dignity?

35% discount for calling at the crack of dawn?  After the sales tax loss, shipping or gas and time for delivery she might as well just donate it to the needy because she's not really a business person but more of a mk volunteer.  :smiley

I would love it if someone I knew didn't have a ton of customers and did this.  I could place a $1000.00 order at 8am then stop by her house at 10pm to verify my name went in the drawing 100 times. Then (most likely) walk away with all that FREE product.

Then I could find someone on here eligible for a larger repurchase than they have in product and send it back ;D

I hate that "I'm in a contest can you help?" BS. My director told me to make up any contest I wanted. She also would "draw" the smallest order to give for free, and alot of times she didn't give the prizes at all.

What a bunch of crap!

The $1000 dollar day and the whole discounts for calling at certain time intervals is a classic in MK. This one has been used for a long time.

The whole "I'm in a contest" and "My director has challenged me" stuff makes me puke. And yes, I have used it a few times and I always felt like such a liar.

Sales is one thing. Lying is another.

Hanging my head in shame here  groan, I did the $1000 day in June right before my  Bubble burst.  I think by the end of the day I had sold about $800?  Looking back now I can't believe I used the dumb scripts and especially "I'm in a challenge" and "Can you help me?"  Gag  Sick

MPBB, Thank God. I love the image of mental blackouts!  How about mental pinkouts?  Whew, I have about 3 years of "I wish I hadn't done that's" to work out of my system.  You guys are the best!  Cheers

I like "mental pinkouts" much more appropriate.
But, Free, you are so good at relating to the newbies and making people feel better about things we did (that we wish we hadn't).  If YOU hadn't done those things, you wouldn't be nearly as gifted at comforting as you are now.  IMHO.
