Thanks for the info about Amway/Quixtar. I wonder how much of this my brother is aware of. I'm honestly not real sure why he stays in since he's really not making much money out of it and just has a few regular customers on occasion. he's very naive and sweet. he buys a lot of the motivational tapes and listens to them a lot. he's always been pretty slow in maturing or growing up. I'm 4 years younger and had a full time job before he did and I think in someways, they've helped him muster up the courage to put his resume out there and I have seen some growth in him since he's been listening to these things since he's not very self motivated. he's very talented with web design and computer stuff. I wish he would just have a little more confidence about himself.

Ohhhhh - those motivational tapes are how the Quixtar gurus (guys at the top of the pyramid) make their real money. If you're brother is into that, he may actually be losing money because he's probably buying more in motivational stuff than he's bringing in selling.
If he REALLY wants legit motivational self-help, there's lots out there far far away from the Quixtar world. The stuff they sell is just like in MK - it keeps the distributor in the MLM mindset (i.e. hamster wheel!). They know exactly what to say to keep you in, ordering, recruiting, and hide it under slick "motivational" materials.
Tell him to start with something like Stephen Covey's "7 Habits of Highly Successful People". Good for a newbie motivation/self-help seeker, and a classic. Srikumar Rao's "Are You Ready to Succeed" is also very good, but maybe wouldn't start there. John T. Reed is also helpful to check out (he only self publishes, so google him to get to his web site), and very anti-guru.

I don't think you can make money selling in Amway/Quixstar. You are supposed to buy all the products yourself (and they are way more expensive than Walmart or the grocery store) and you are supposed to recruit other people to become distributors. I'm not sure it's possible to make any money without recruiting.
Your brother can buy his own motivational books and tapes from Amazon.com or just get them from the self-help section in the library or a bookstore. I bet he'll save a lot and not be pressured to attend expensive trainings and seminars.

This is not a lie that my Director told per se, but it's one of the Big lies that is in every welcome packet I've seen. "Inventory is not debt, it's an investment." The whole breakdown is so deceptive, especially the "using someone else's money" part. Wouldn't you agree....... lol.

inTimegetWise and Baroness...
Sounds like we had the same director! Probably not, which is sad, would be nice if it was only one person with that despicable behavior.
1) Told I could not share the opportunity myself, MK said only directors could... When confronted with MK material stating otherwise, she couldn't remember saying that.
2) Told if I placed an order for a certain amount, she'd give me $$ amount of wholesale product as a gift, that she did it for all new members, then gave me the retail equivalent of old, out of date product that couldn't be sold. (some product was used, and the boxes badly damaged) If it hadn't been dropped off on my doorstep while I was at an appt., I could have checked it and given it back.
3) When finally asked at the next meeting (couldn't get her on the phone, or emails answered) she said that she didn't know what I was talking about, she'd never do that and I must have vandals in my neighborhood.
4) After speaking to my sister one time, for 15 minutes, said my sister talked trash about me to her. My sister and I are extremely close, love each other to death. What a farce!! Needless to say, my sister wanted to kick her....well, you know.
That woman was evil, just plain evil.... Goodness, there are so many more...I'd be here all night....

One of my Director's many lies was her little blurb at the end of her Guest Book. "Sign my Guest Book at least 10 times in a month and your name will be placed in a drawing for a special prize."
I can't tell you how many times I was the ONLY one in her unit who would sign her Guest Book. I would go on there about 3-4 times a week and say "hey, how's it going" blah, blah, blah. I would get a reply every now and then but my name was on her Guest Book at least 15 times a month. And this same scenario occurred for at least 10 months! Did I ever win that "special prize"? Hell no. But I don't think I could've used any more cheap-ass earrings or MK note pads.
I feel nauseous just thinking about it....

Something similar to me to! Ex-d started out based in my hometown, then moved across the nation (thank God). She totally forgot about us left back here and concentrated on her new affluent "friends." (she claims she was even at some of the same parties Bill Gates attended. hah!!!!!) Wonder why she didn't recruit him or his wife --- she would have shot to the top that very day.
But, I digress! Anytime she held contests with our names going into the pot for some cheapass thing, isn't funny that no one in our home town unit ever won any of those prizes. I guess she couldn't afford to send them back home.
I remember one time when she graced us hometown gals with her presence and told us if we sold $100 by the time we met with her for dinner, we would be entered into the contest. Well, I went from several months of doing nothing to getting my butt on the phone and selling about $98 worth of stuff that day. When I reported that to her at dinnertime, she refused to put my name into her basket. She said the contest was for $100, not $98. Then she said her prizes from corporate were based on exact amounts, not close seconds.
We adjourned the dinner meeting, and she told me I still had approximately one hour to find that other $2 customer, so I went home and sold myself an eye shadow, and called her back to tell her I met her challenge.
No one else in our unit did, so I knew I was the only one entered in her basket.
Can you guess the rest of this story???
The first person to respond to me with the correct ending to this story will win from me..........................
my MK consultant pin!!!!!

She gave you some old "embrace life" gift crap she could never sell...
OR
She said more than one consultant needed to be entered to hold the drawing and here is a nice ribbon instead. Good work!

Well, actually, I never heard from her again after that. She hopped back on her broom and flew back home across the country to the opposite coast.
I'll still send the pin (I actually have 3) to all who even read this story...........................
please???????

Dork Dot! Oh my, I love that!! ;D LOL ;D
What a great idea too. Well, at least I found a use for those pins now.
What is it with Target? ??? I swear that there are more MK ladies handing out cards there than anywhere else! It's where my director always told me to go too. . .

Great Marketing Idea!!!!! How about a pin (dork dot) enhancer that has a circle around the pin with a huge line across it Think the Kbots would get the message then? Probably not. They'd probably walk up to us and ask us what "challenge" we won to get this great prize that they don't have We could tell them it was for getting the most "Oh Hell no's" in Target that day

Ooh, I might have to make some of those. I am making something similar in a pair of earrings with red Fimo clay and could easily make it bigger to fit around the pin. . . hmm, methinks I have a weekend project planned now.
