My favorite author is Leo Tolstoy
My favorite book as a child was: Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawles

Okay ~ I had to chime in here at least on the kids books! As a small kid (and Adult reading to my 4yr old) I LOVE any Dr. Seuss Book or Shel Silverstein and then as a young lady anything Judy Blume wrote.  |

My favorite book(s) as a child were the Chronicles of Narnia
As an adult, I have lots of favorites, but my all-time go-to is American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

OMG!!!!! How could I have forgotten C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE those!!!!! I have a beautiful hard cover edition with gorgeous drawings! Hmm, I should read those again!!!!!!! Thanks for the reminder nynaeve77!

nynaeve, I didn't get my copies of the Chronicles until I was around 13. My dad thought because I loved Lord of the Rings, I would like it too. I did. I still love them today.
So CS Lewis and JRR Tolkein would be my two fave authors I suppose.
I, too, loved American Gods. Neverwhere was pretty good by the same author.

Been meaning to answer this one all week!
My favorite book when I was a child was A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L'Engle.
I also read all of the Little House on the Prairie books.
As an adult, I can't say that I have a favorite book or author. I read a lot of non-fiction and magazines as well.

UYC~ OMG ~ I was also an avid reader of all the Little House on the Prairie Books. I completely forgot until you jogged my memory!!! I was so bad that I grew up on a little farm in Kansas and made my mother braid my hair so I could pretend I was Laura.  THANKS for the memory jog (like this word phrases? ~ Getting ready for this weight loss contest...  )  |

UYC,
A Wrinkle in Time was one of my favorites as a girl as well. I liked that whole series. The fact that the protagonist was a homely, intelligent girl really resonated with me, as I was in my "awkward" phase at the time.

Maybe some government officials should read A Wrinkle in Time, actually ALL government officials should read A Wrinkle in Time!!!!! I read that book in the 6th grade and again in my 20's and then again in my late 30's, each time I got something different out of it! It's funny how age brings to light things that you don't think of as a child! I'm thinkin' it's time to read it again! LOL But first, the Chronicles of Narnia reread!!!  |

the Otto series
Scholastic Books (they are GREAT)
There are tons more... We counted once, have about 500-600 children's books in the house. We got rid of all our adult books except for Bibles, Bible Studies, and Self-Help! LOL! I haven't found an author that I love as an adult yet. I guess I am too ADD to keep up with reading a book! I do love Dave Ramsey's book "My Total Money Makeover". I have read it at least 5 times in the past year.
I aspire to write children's books. My first children's book was when I was 16 and babysitting these adorable little girls 3-4 nights a week. It was about a princess who wanted everything in her kingdom turned to gold. She was hilarious! The kids helped me with the pictures (illustrator, I am NOT). It ended up that she saw the true value of things. Kind of a nice message. LOL!
I come up with really funny songs to coerce my son and daughter into brushing his teeth or going potty. I think I will change them into children's books one day. I have a little notebook full.
OH, The Babysitters Club was a pretty great series! Also, the Ramona series. I have them all (in boxes) for when my daughter gets to be old enough!
Sweet Valley High wasn't my dig, but my sister loved them in middle school.
Okay... I am a book addict. I admit it! When we go to the library, we get 30 books and come back 2 days later to exchange them. HAHA!
