Remembering VT victims & families forever

« Reply #1 on: April 05, 2007, 04:05:10 PM »

Those old fogies have no heart. This reminds of the story about a homeowner's association in Fairfax VA that made a little girl with leukemia take down her treehouse.  It was a vey nice treehouse and the little girl found peace and tranquility while just sitting and relaxing amongst the trees.  It was against association rules and they did not give one fig that the little girl had leukemia.  All they cared about was their neighborhood rules.

The "subdivision" I leave in is in the country and the smallest lot is 5 acres.  When the developer first created the subdivision there were restrictions.  However, once the developer pasted away there was no money to enforce the rules and therefore they became unenforceable.  But I must say that most of the residents adhere to the spirit of the original restrictions, but no one goes around measuring your grass, checking the color of your house or sending nasty letters about the smallest of things, ie "you placed your trash cans out too early"

I agree Chaos about HOA's, Yuck, I use to work for one!!!!!!! It sucks that you have to have all these rules because of one persons mis-deeds.

I feel sorry for the family that is being affected by this, but I have seen the other side and know that if you give an inch to one, you have to give a mile to the next person and so on!

I just pray that the family will sell the house and move where they will be happy!!!!!!  Love

I can understand rules but if the family is making an honest effort to move and they are keeping their grandchild under control, then the stupid association needs to back off. If they are so up in arms about it, why don't they help these poor people sell the place! All i can say is any judge that doesn't through this suit out immediately is a moron!

Jypsi
Do you know what happened with this suit or case?  I'm hoping those poor grandparents were either to sell or the Home Owners Assoc hated the bad press enough to back off.

what really ticks me off about that article was that poor Vietnamese family.

Asians who immigrate here often have larger extended families and are used to visiting and living together when convenient. (My husband is Chinese and they feel it is their absolute duty to provide shelter to any family members who may need temporary help, especially family who is trying to get established in the U.S.)

I can guarantee you that family is not having wild keg parties or blasting rock music until midnight - I bet the nasty old white neighbors don't like them because they are a bunch of "foreigners".

In the last neighborhood we lived in (Maryland), we had a racist neighbor who complained because a couple of Asian families bought 2 of the nicest houses in the neighborhood - and of course it wasn't just mom, dad, and kids. Grandma lived with them too. It makes me so angry to read about stuff like that since I can guess exactly what's going on in those neighbor's heads. My neighbors felt free to air their true feelings about the Asian families in our neighborhood to me. Guess they thought I would be sympathetic or something - um Hello???

UGH UGH UGH - I hate HOAs too!!!

PC~ I totally agree!  Racism in any degree is despicable.  I think it is safe to assume that in this day in the US of A atleast 80% are mixed blood in some way.  How can you be a bigot when you don't even know your own blood line??  What really chaps my  moon is when people are racist against other members of their own race.

Anywhoo...do NOT get me started on that subject!!    :tapfoot:    You'll never shut me up!

that reminds me, this is funny...
the Asian families who moved into my neighborhood had kids that would play in the street - that caused my neighbor to say the area was "going downhill". Then one of the families had an old grandmother who lived with them, and she would open the garage door and set up a big wok on the floor, and sit by it, cooking. It was funny, every time I walked by she'd be cooking in the garage with that wok.

They drove the racist neighbors bonkers, of course. I just thought they were cool.
 :laugh3:

Then, when we moved we sold our house to a black family with 3 kids - and I heard the same neighbor wasn't overly thrilled about that, either. I was so happy to have annoyed him LOL  :rasp: :rasp: :rasp: :rasp:

okay, ranting over.  :bafraid: Soapbox

Too bad more people in this country don't have that kind of attitude towards family. :o(

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, don't get me started on racism either!!!!!!  mad2 OMG. When I was a little girl, around 4, we moved up tp Portland from a small town. I had no clue that there were other races until I moved here! I just remember thinking, wow, how cool, what can I learn here? My friends in 1st grade were, black, Asian, Mexican, American Indian etc., I feel that I was soooooooooooooo lucky to have had that experience!  LOL pinkcaddy, I would have been at that Asian neighbors watching and learning how to use that wok!!!!!  :loveshwr: I LOVE learning about new cultures!  :loveshwr:

lol

I forgot about this thread since it's older, but a couple of us here at PLH also write a blog about intercultural marriage, and of course we got a visitor last week saying we're racist because we make generalized statements about the cultures our husbands are from.  :nutzo:

Anyway if you're interested it's www.colorblindcupid.wordpress.com.

And recently one of the women at our Chinese church offered to teach me to cook REAL chinese food, so I'm gearing up for this. I wonder if I can do it...sorta nervous....
