Hey guys, thanks for the  bighug ! I know so many of us are here to work out our feelings, and doesn't it help to be able to write through them?

On the whole  Margarita thing (and BTW I'm having an international ale night at my house, anyone want to come??) I think I've tried to live out my faith from the heart. Many years ago I was basically abandoned by my roommate when I "crossed the line" and broke a rule she thought was unacceptable.  She was so cruel, and at that point I just needed someone to love and support me. Without going into the details too much, I've always thought even though she may have been justified in her response to me, what people need more than a rule book is heartfelt and Christian support.  My Dad's a preacher, and his dad was an alcoholic.  My parents choose to not drink because they've lived the horrors of that situation, but I think they also know how we are all in the same boat when it comes to living in sin.

Okay, sorry!  That was my ramble!

The way my church looks at it is if your not getting drunk, its ok and it is a Baptist Church.  Anyway, my old church thought it was outright sin to drink!  My pastor wouldn't let his teenage son get a job at the grocery store bagging because they sold beer!  I have been caught in line at the store by my old pastors wife buying wine giggle didn't hide it I was doing nothing wrong.  I have been drinking longer than I should have been, but I don't do it in excess anymore (I can't handle it  Sick)  My dh used to drink a lot!  He hardly does anymore.  I think that the main thing is that you have to be aware of who is watching you, as in unbelievers, sometimes they might take it as being a hypocrite as I have heard many people say about Christians.

Not knocking any religion at all but, my husband is Catholic.......the ever so forgiving faith........drinking is even accepted at wedding receptions in the church hall--that never would have been allowed in the church I grew up in--Methodist--so it's created quite some confusion in my house as to whether it's "right" or "wrong".

Here's a funny story about drinking and church....

After I had my 4th kid, I went to TOPS (Taking off Pounds Sensibly) at the Catholic church next door to our Methodist church.  I loved it when they had Men's Club because they would set up the bar with this cart full of HUGE liquor bottles!  Cracked me up!  I grew up in an area with a lot of Catholics, so I wasn't surprised, but still, here in the Bible Belt I think a lot of people were shocked. Cheers

At our church, you can't have a champagne toast at weddings if you are using the reception hall, but I have said hello to various members of my ministerial staff with a Margarita or a glass of wine on my dinner table in a restaurant.  And when our old Sunday School class went on retreats, we always had alcoholic beverages....we were the heathen methodists, I guess! giggle

My father was an alcoholic, and an abusive one at that.  Two of my sisters don't drink at all and another sister drinks too much.  My husband and I like to go out for a nice drinner and have a couple of drinks.  I don't usually drink at home because I'm too tired after a long day at work--coming home and cooking, doing laundry, taking care of the kids, etc.  I just want to fall into bed with a good book and go to sleep.  I am a Christian, and I do not believe that drinking is a sin.  If you're drinking and driving and the potential for hurting someone is there, now that's a different story in my book.  But an ice cold beer on a hot summer day is heavenly sometimes.   smiley

P.S.  Re: missing recognition -- you mean the MK Post-It Notes and cheap-ass crystal earrings?? Nah, I don't miss that one bit!

Kathy,

Mine was/is, too, so I really used to have a problem with my husband drinking beer (I am a "smeller" and I just couldn't stand the way he smelled).  I am what you would call a social drinker, and I can't just sit around with a drink, but I don't let it make me feel bad if I want one.

My sister drinks waaaaay too much and my brother probably is a little less rigid than I am, but nothing close to my sister's habit.

It's funny how we all grew up in the same house and all dealt with it differently.

Recognition...never made it to that point in MK.  But I have been involved in lots of charity work in the past 15 years or so, and have received lots of recognition and thank you's for that....feeds that need to be in charge and praised, I guess.

And it didn't cost me a cent! highfive
