So DH and I go out to eat lunch yesterday with his parents.  On the way out of the restaurant we see MIL's cousin.  So we stop to chat for a moment.  Cousin pipes up with "do you keep ALL of MK's inventory, I need to place a HUGE order."  I say, "no, I no longer sell MK."  To see the look on her face you would have thought I announced the beginning of WW3 or something.  I actually thought it was  rofl rofl rofl rofl

Let me give some background on Cousin.  She's probably 65 years old.  One of those ladies that is loud and large.  Has big hair and wears too much makeup.  She actually looks like a Kaybot  In the 6 years I sold MK, each year she would call and need to place a HUGE order.  So she would tell me $300 of crap she wanted to buy.  So I would get it together and take it to her house (over 20 miles away).  She would either not be home even though she said she would or she wouldn't have any money.  After she did this twice, I quit catering to her and told her she could come pick it up from me.  Of course she never.  I know she did the same thing to other consultants, so I guess she's just trying to get free products.  I don't know who she actually bought stuff from.  She's a strange lady.  We don't see her often.  I didn't tell her I quit MK because she never bought anything, so I didn't think it was any of her business.

So that's why I was  rofl rofl rofl yesterday.  I feel sorry for whoever she cons into getting her MK order together.  She won't buy it.  But oh it felt good to say "I no longer sell MK."

MIL, looked shocked too.  I didn't tell her I quit MK either because she never bought anything, so I didn't think it was any of her business.  I'm sure I'll hear some rude words from her sometime.

I had 'customers' like that too!  I had two women who ordered $200-$300 each at one time.  I went to deliver and they weren't home (40 miles from my home).  I would try to call; they would answer and find out it was me and hang up!  Of course after that they had my phone number and just wouldn't answer when they knew it was me calling.  I sent postcards to them asking them to contact me.  Of course they never did.  At first I was angry, then hurt.  Finally, I woke up and realized that I had gone way beyond the call of duty for these women.  It wasn't worth it.  It is unbelievably freeing to be DONE with all that!!!! :loveshwr:

When I first started, I ran into folks like this, and I learned quick, Cash or Credit card up front before I even drop one product into a bag.  If she writes a check, I tell her she will receive her products after the check clears.

Most of my clients will give me a head's up about an order, but say, "I'll be ready for it on XYZ date after I get paid..." or something to that effect.

I also have PayPal set up for my out-of-state customers and they know when they get their invoice and pay me securely/electronically, then the products will be mailed.

The handful of customers I've lost because of my policies on payment are folks I didn't need as customers anyway.  I have the same policy with my jewelry business.  Any custom order over $100 requires a 50% deposit before I begin work.  Under $100 requires full payment up front.  Finished pieces must be paid for before delivery.

Life is too short to be running after deadbeat customers trying to get over.
