I got my tax statement from MKC yesterday and those bleepme are claiming $430.00 for a "Leadership Course" which I assume is DIT.  mad3

First of all I had to pay to fly out to Dallas, pay for the cab to get me to the hotel, pay for my room for 4 nights, and all they covered was food.  So they're basically charging $96 per day for food.  Hell if I'd known I would've paid for my own food or better yet wouldn't have gone!!

So how exactly does that work?  What does your statement look like where they 'claimed' the class?

That shouldn't raise your profit margin, because if you had paid for it, you would have taken it off on your taxes, so how does that work?

You have paid for the professional fees of the presenters/speakers, the cost that MKC incurred for renting the space, etc.

MKC should have charged a registration fee if they were trying to cover costs.  The part of not telling you that you were going to charged is chicken sh#t.  I would read the paperwork for DIT for any reference to justify them reporting it as income.  If there is none, challenge them.  If they balked contact an attorney or the IRS.  MKC is beginning to smell of dead fish.   twocents

Your MK Success has a Snowball's Chance in Hell

It's on your taxes because MK considers it part of the commission/prizes/gifts. Your expenses for travel, hotel and what-not incurred as a result of attending DIT are tax deductible. Chaos, unfortunately, I do think they have it in writing. If I remember correctly (it's been a long time!), they send you a packet of info about DIT and the tax info is in writing somewhere - either in that packet, or their own tax info they provide on InTouch. I think in the packet they talk about how the conference is worth so much, but you get to attend for the bargain price of yada yada, and isn't MK great (which is the amount they put on your tax form).

It sucks, but they're not stupid tax-wise. It's all unfortunately legit.
