Since you used to be a MK liquidator, would you care to offer any suggestions as to how to successfully sell on E-bay?  I am trying to unload all of this "stuff" from my living room.  Thank you kindly.

Sure!

First, make sure you take good, clear pictures of what you are selling. Put down a light colored tablecloth for a background so that your items show up clearly.

If you have a lot, arrange everything neatly on a table. Take a picture of the whole lot. That picture won't be a close up because you will have to get everything in the pic. Then, take close-up pictures of each section of the lot so people can see clearly what you have and what shape it is in. For instance, divide your lot visually into thirds, then take a closer picture of each third.

Keep your description clean and detailed. Include a complete, itemized list of everything you are selling. If you know when you purchased the items, include that. If you have items that have expiration dates, like day solution, make sure to note the exp. dates for people. They want to know.

Write a descriptive title for your auction. Don't include unnecessary and silly descriptors. No one searches for those words and they ignore them. For example,

Huge Mary Kay Lot Over $3800 Wholesale New

Rather than

WOW! L@@K!! Mary Kay Lot Incredible. Must See!!

Don't spend the extra money on features like subtitles or bold. The only extra that seems to be of value is the gallery photo, so I would do that. Lots of people just scan the pictures for something that looks interesting.

Be sure you have boxed everything up and weighed it so that you know how much to charge for shipping. And include a small extra amount for your handling. If your shipping charge is reasonable, you will get more bids because a lot of people set it high, not necessarily on purpose, but because they don't always know how much shipping costs.

Hope that helps. I'll answer any other specific questions.

I have the Barbie Mary Kay Consultant, How do you think it would do on ebay?

I'm sersously thinking of putting on there.

It was funny, when they came out everyone was saying (In the next year these dolls are going to be worth $100's of dollars.)

Funny isn't it ;D

OMG I remember those stupid barbies! I couldn't believe grown women thought those dolls were going to be some awesome "investment"! They kept encouraging people to buy buy buy for that MK Barbie. What a joke.

Oh yeah. They were going to be rare collector's items. Ha!

Just another way to get people to order a bunch of inventory. Nothing like an $1800 Barbie (or was it more?)

Sadly, I wanted that Barbie, but in my defense I am a doll collector (much to my husband's horror).  :smiley

Anyway, I did sell mine on eBay - it went for $70, and it was even opened. You can sell unopened ones for quite a bit more.

How do you go about that? selling the Barbie on ebay? What if it dosen't get the price that you wanted? Do you think that I could get a good price for it?

Thank you so much for the advice and information.

I actually did pretty much was uyc suggested above for selling inventory (same tips apply). I sell things from time to time on eBay and always get a good price. MK stuff goes for a premium if you do a good job selling it.

I took pictures of the actual doll, definitely post one for the preview. I put as much detail as I could - when I got her, that she had been opened, what condition she was in. I stressed how she was carefully stored, and that my home is smoke-free (don't know if that matters to everyone, but I only buy stuff if they say that - can't stand the smell). I put how many were made, why it was made, who received it, that it's an official Mattel doll made specifically for MK. I think she's the only doll with pantyhose or something like that, too. Check what other people are saying - you may find good stuff there to copy from, but make sure it's FACTUAL first - don't just assume it is because they are saying it in their listing.

Also, I don't do any of those optional stuff, just like uyc says above. Don't think it's worth it.

You an put a reserve price on there to make sure you get the price you want, but I didn't do that. It costs you extra money, and some people won't bid on things with a reserve.

Also, I only charge actual shipping and handling - I don't estimate or jack it up. I add the shipping calculator to the sale so people can see what it will cost them to ship to their area.

Hope that helps!

Another thing that sells well on eBay is that sequined pink caddy stuff they had as star prizes a while back (was a sweater, black wool bag, and something else...). I had the bag and sold it - think it sold for almost $100, and it was used!!! Geez.

All my official MK stuff went like crazy.

Also, if you have fairly recent tapes/cds/recruiting lit from company, you can sell that, too. You can't return those to the company. You won't get what you paid, but you'll at least get a return on it.

I sold a giant box of director supplies - left over prizes, tapes, training materials, pins, you name it.

yes, it's very helpful, and interesting, I love reading things like that  Cheesy

I have the pink phone, it was one of the star prizes for last June, I do love that, it is so cute, I am thinking about putting that on ebay, but, I don't know if I can depart with it, it is a working phone, but if we have our service disconnected because we have cell phones and trying to cut down on some of the bills, I just might  ;D

Go For It!   Ebay has been good to me while unloading Star Prizes and other worthless junk picked up at Career Conference/Seminar....I just wanted the stuff out of my house, and have been really surprised at how well it has been selling - if it has any association to MK slap it up on ebay and the pinkos bid like mad...I guess it would be considered a " business expense" so they're fine with dropping all that cash to maintain the illusion!  Ha!

I've sold quite a bit on eBay - star prizes and supplies mostly. They go like hotcakes. I think that consultants rationalize as it's cheaper to spend a few hundred dollars (yes, one of my MK luggage pieces went for just over $100) or so on something than the $1,800+ in inventory to "earn" it.

I have sold over $900 on ebay in the last 40 days or so, almost all of it MK related stuff- I had so many star prizes it was ridiculous! In fact, sold my ladder of success pin w/ jewels on it- someone will be faking it I guess--
I've sold used bags, star prizes, mk supplies, samples, anything MK girlfriend related, director suits, rings,  and other cheap jewelry I got through MK but didn't necessarily say "MK on it"--I"m telling you, why people pay what they do for some of this is beyond me, but I'm happy- it doesn't come close to how much $$ I spent on cc to acquire all of this stuff, but it's a start, and it's getting out of my house.
I had thought I would stay a consultant and order for myself, etc, but I'vve found I just want it all behind me, and now I'm not even using MK products except for 2 or 3 things- so I'm moving everything!
anyway, if you have mk related stuff, star prizes, whatever, get it on there and just watch what happens! smiley It's fun, actually.
