I have a question about eBay if someone can answer I would appreciate it. I recently purchased an item on eBay. I paid through PayPal using my credit card. The seller's statement said it should arrive from 2-5 business days from when it is sent. After a week went by I emailed the seller to inquire when it was sent out. She told me the day she sent it which was 3 business days after it was purchased. She explained that she sent it when the payment went through. I thought the payment would go through immediately the day I bought it as it was put on my credit card. My credit card billed me on that date on my statement. Am I missing something here: does PayPal take some extra time to release the payment to the seller?

One method of paying on Paypal is via an e-check.  If you somehow checked that box, you could have paid with your credit card with an e-check.  In that case, it takes a few days to clear.  That is the only explanation I can come up with.

I don't think I checked off e-check. I thought maybe the seller just didn't send it out right away and used that as an excuse. But I want to give her the benefit of the doubt. I just can't think of why it would take so long to clear. I purchased three separate items the week before and the payment went through immediately and I received those orders in two business days. This last order took over a week to receive.

Credit card purchases through PayPal go through immediately. It only takes a few minutes for these to show up in your PayPal account, not days. They don't take days to clear. If I paid you right now through PayPal with a credit card, you would get an email verifying that payment within minutes.

You should have received an email from PayPal when you made the payment, verifying it. It comes with the subject line "Receipt for Your Payment to _________ ."  So you would know when it cleared.

Unless you did something wrong, like was mentioned with the e-check, I'd say your seller is lying. Not unusual for eBay, unfortunately.

Now that you mentioned it I did receive a notification that my payment went through. I paid it immediately after I won the auction and then PayPal notified me it went through. I'm in a dilemma about what to put as feedback on this. The seller left positive feedback for me right away but I have been waiting for the package to arrive. Now that I think I am being lied to I am not so inclined to leave good feedback, but I still don't want to leave negative feedback and leave myself open to retaliation. I also don't like to give negative feedback, I don't like the bad karma that goes with it. However, I think a person should always be honest which is not what happened here.

surrender...when did you purchase the item?

Are you telling me that you still haven't received it? Did you get an email from eBay notifying you that it was shipped? You wouldn't necessarily unless the seller set their account to send that email automatically.

Of course the seller left positive feedback...you paid immediately. Don't let that deter you from honestly evaluating the transaction. That's important for the way eBay works.

I purchased the item on April 12. I did finally receive it today. Since I did receive it (my main worry was that I would not) I am not as upset. I had emailed the seller to find out when it went out.  She was not totally honest saying she sent it 5 days later when the payment went through since I made a point of paying immediately on the same day the auction closed. All she had to do was be honest with me and just say it didn't get into the mail right away. I would be more inclined to give positive feedback if she had said that. So far I have left no feedback because I haven't figured out what I am going to say yet.

I emailed the seller again to ask why my payment did not go through until the following week. The response was that "After you pay then the seller has to transfer the payment into their account to deposit the money. It doesn't go automatically into the sellers account." It was offered that if I had any more questions I could feel free to email them. Then, "Please don't forget to leave feedback. Thank you."

Does that sound like a reasonable explanation? I'm new at this so bear with me if my questions seem remedial.

No, the seller is full of it!

When you receive a PayPal payment, it goes directly into your PayPal account.

It does go directly into the seller's account. I don't know WHAT they are talking about.

If you pay by eCheck through PayPal, those take longer to clear, usually 2 to 4 days.
But it just takes longer for those funds to get into the account.

It sounds to me like you  paid by eCheck or she is trying to make you think you did.

Look at the receipt that PayPal sent you. It will tell you how you paid. Or look at your PayPal account.

I checked my PayPal account and the payment to the seller went through the same day it was put through on my credit card which was immediately after the close of the auction. There was no mention of an eCheck. The payment was done from my credit card and done the same way as the three other previous transactions which I had received in 2 business days. It looks like the seller did not get the item in the mail when the payment was received. It didn't get into the mail until 3 or 4 business day passed, thus it took over a week and a half to get the item. I was starting to worry I would not receive it. Although this is not the worst thing I would have preferred she had just been honest and said she was a little late getting it in the mail. I don't know if I should just leave neutral feedback with an explanation or just leave positive but explain it took a little longer than I expected. This seller had almost all good feedback.

The seller is either lying to you or she is ignorant.

I advise that you leave a neutral and explain why. Be specific so it's clear.

Thank you so much for all your help. As I said I am new to eBay so it means a lot.

Yes, the seller was lying to you. Let us know what happened! If she lied to you again, I'll take care of her.  :hit8:

Yes...I'd love to know how this ended. Did you mention her antics in your feedback?
