I took my daughter shopping today and I am happy to say that there are FINALLY dresses in the stores.  All the years that my girls have been teenagers (they are 18 and almost 20), it has been nearly impossible to buy a decent "church dress".  If they had one in the store, they just had ONE.  Although I'll be the first to admit that my girls are not interested in typical teenage fashion, there was still little out there appropriate for even someone in their early to mid 20's, much less a teenager who was not interested in channeling Britney Spears.

I think buying a dress is so frustrating--for me, it's always been "I don't know what I'm looking for, but I'll know it when I see it".  The really, really funny thing is that I recently found my copy of "The Official Preppy Handbook" when I was cleaning the bookshelves, and lo and behold.....the wrap dress that you see everywhere is one of the "must haves" for preps! Circa 1980, that is! LOL!

So....if you like a cute dress and haven't been able to find one....I'm happy to report that I saw LOTS of them in the stores today!

Good! All I've ever seen when walking through the junior's dept on my way somewhere else is what I call "whore clothes". Whatever happened to decent clothes for teens and pre-teens? Yuck.

Update on dresses....

I have been a dress buying fool lately!  I got 4 new dresses for my 18 yr old daughter before easter (she is going through sorority rush in the fall, so we got a couple things that will work for that along with an easter and a graduation dress).  I was looking for shoes and happened to see a dress and decided that you just never know when you might need one...good thing I did, at 6:30 on Easter I decided my skirt was just a little too tight and had to go to plan B!  I also found a navy wrap dress on clearance that was just like one I used to have when I was in my 20's (yeah, it looked a lot better on me then, but this one is passable) and a red dress almost like another old one I used to have in my 20's.  When I showed it to my husband he said, "don't you already have a dress like that?"  Men...... rolleyes

Tonight I was out shopping with my daughter and we hit the motherlode again...this time I got three dresses for her and three dresses for her sister (away at college) for $30 bucks each.

After nearly a decade of not being able to find a decent dress to wear to church.....well, girls I'm almost giddy! giggle

Speaking of "whore clothes"...have you all seen the "shorts' they have for the young girls?????  It's just scraps of denim sewn together.  Now, I'm not a prude, but i am modest and those shorts don't have an ounce of modesty with them!  And the dresses, ugh!  it's like Macy's and the other department stores are catering to a bunch of streetwalkers!

Preach on sister!!!   I took my 18 year old cousin shopping last year.  We HAD to go to Ambercrombie & Fitch.  (if that isn't spelled right....I couldn't even pronouce it a few years back!)   She picks up a micro-mini skirt, barely 10" long from top to bottem.  I told her to put it back.  I asked her how can she sit down without her "little woo-hoo" showing!!!    :ooops:  Well that really embarassed her.  She said I was worse then her mom.  I replied, it is $45 & I have jeans that cost less & covers up more skin then that ratty skirt.  I told her that she isn't dressing like street trash.   
I can't stand the way teens dress these days.  I thought we were bad wearing mini skirts......ha!

LOL! I call those "bend-over" skirts, because you don't even have to take them off to, um,  :whstl: , just bend over.

There was a report on 20/20 or Dateline or one of those about a year ago where they tested theater seats for germs and found bacterial vaginosis. The doc said it was from some girl wearing a too short skirt, and no panties, and spreading her infection to the seat. YUCK!!!!!

And about dresses, I hate dresses. Since I am anti-mk, anti-pantyhose, and anti-black/closed toe heels, dresses fall into that catagory of "MK" related clothing.  :biggrin:
