I really did not think mine hurt much, Mine was personal too. A Small rose on my ankle. Seems pretty traditional but when I got it, I was going through a hard time dealing with a still birth (a son Jared) and had read a book called December Rose.... Love just something to remember him by.

I have two tats. One on my calf, it is of Babs Bunny. The other I just got in July is a butterfly and some tribal on my lower back. About the pain. The one on my calf did not hurt at all, actually tickled. Now, the one on my back, HURT!!!!! I mean HURT!!!! It took an hour and a half, and when the guy would go up on the side, I would have pain shoot down my leg. It took 2 days before I could sit still. But I love it!! I am planning on getting another one, but have made a commitment to lose weight first. I want one on my lower tummy!!

My youngest son, a former Marine, has been wanting me to get one for several years now ... he's completely tatted up! Even designed a few of them ... think I'll have him design one for me and give myself a going away present ... going away from the pink fog!! Any design ideas? ???
So, miss marvie, did you ever get your tat ? What did you get ? Did it hurt as bad as you thought? If you haven't gotten one yet, and are still considering, some words of advice: *Ask the artist to see examples of his work *Make sure he understands EXACTLY what you want, in terms of size, outlines, etc. *Try real hard not to get a tat at a flea market. Or if you've been drinking. I have 5...3 of a howling wolf silhouetted against a full moon, 1 on my calf, one on my thigh and one on my shoulder/back; and 2 broken hearts, 1 above a breast and the other on my hand between my thumb and index finger. The one on my hand has a secret tattoo-within-a-tattoo, which graphically shows exactly what happened to my heart, but you have to have sharp eyes to see it. furrville2, we haven't met... I know that one on your back hurt!!! And now one on your tummy?!?! You a braver chick than me!!!

Aquage, I'm so sorry about your loss. I think the rose is a beautiful tribute, something that will last and last.
I've never had a tattoo, but I just celebrated birthday number 3-9, and I'm thinking I may get one that is small and discrete. My DH doesn't have one either, and thinks it would be cool for us to both go in at the same time. We will celebrate 18 years of marriage in May. Love Love

I got one about 8 years ago. It's a circle of 3 dolphins between my shoulder blades on my back. I didn't expect for it to hurt as much as it did, so I kind of went into a shock and vomited. Sick I love it though, so I am actually considering getting a 2nd one. This one I want to get on the back of my neck underneath my hair so you'd only see it if my hair was pinned up. I've been wanting an asian symbol for the longest time but haven't been able to decide which one yet. I also like the idea of having one on my hip, but maybe I'll use that as motivation to lose some extra weight. I actually knew 2 women in my former unit who went out and got bumble bees tatooed on their feet while at Seminar. One of them is now a former director and the other never really worked her business all that much. At time while I was still very much in the pink fog, I thought it was very cool. Thank goodness I never did anything that crazy!!!

I grew up with a house filled with tattoos. Everyone in my immediate family has one minus my biological mother. For my 16th birthday as my gift, my dad(a loser) let me get that tattoo i have been wanting for a long time. I designed it and to this day i love it. It is a rose with my initial but the rose is just starting to blossom which i related to the point i was at in my life. It is on my upper arm and if i could go back i would have just put it on my back instead...but hey live and learn. I don't think it makes me less of a lady. I do know that working in a professional office, I do get weird looks sometimes if it happens to show (thought i try to keep it covered for professions sake). I could only imagine what my MK would say if she ever saw it. lol I love tattoos and have before they were "cool". I would definitely consider getting more, but my fiance hates them...so if i get any at all, they will be smaller and more concealable.

Yea!! I love it when an old thread is revived... I just read what I wrote ages ago, and have to say that I still have all three -- none removed... Here is what I have: 1) on my ankle is a blue and green tattoo of the earth with a yin yang symbol in it with little mushrooms instead of the dots on the symbol, 2) on my hip is a peace sign colored with red, blue and yellow that says "Make love not war" (after Vietnam, many of the soliders colored in the peace signs with these colors and my Dad was there, so...) and 3) a HUGE portrait of Jerry Garcia on my lower back (the cover from an early 80s Rolling Stone). Can we say TUP was a bit of a hippie and Deadhead??

TUP, that is the coolest thing I have heard today!! I can't wait to tell my DH that a woman on the PL has a huge tattoo of Jerry Garcia on her back! He is going to think you're the coolest!
