Kids and renovations are my life!

« on: January 21, 2007, 06:15:46 PM »

I have recently discovered that I love east Indian food! Mmmm Mmm good!
I am looking for easy to make receipes. I have made Dahl and Nan bread from scratch...I love it! So very tasty my mouth is watering while I type!

BTW Dahl Receipe I used:

1cup red lentils
2 cups water
1 tbsp of Pataks curry paste.(you choose the heat, mild, med etc)
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 can coconut milk

Cook the lentils over med-low heat until it's like a thick pea soup, while this is cooking dry roast your seeds in a thick bottomed pan (like cast iron works well) until they start to pop then remove them from the pan immediately to stop the cooking process then I crushed them.
Add all your spices to your very well cooked lentils as well as the coconut milk and continue to cook on low until most of the water is evaporated and your left with most delicious side dish! It should be the consistency of refried beans.
This goes well with curried chicken or buttered chicken.

Enjoy and send me your favorites!

Fun! I'm not a big Indian Cuisine person but there are some things I like.

I'd be interested to see your Nan Bread recipe.
