At my house, the kids will scream- Oh no! Mom's doing something crazy again! If I was a bad cook, it would be funny, but then, I guess through their eyes, I leave a little to be desired. I'm a klutz, and am frequently messing things up - going too fast, only reading half the recipe and getting tired - and doing my own thing. My mom gave me one of those cute little way-too-expensive pumpkin bread kits she saw in a way-too-expensive store. She knows I love to cook but simply don't have the time.
Once again, I was rushing through things, opened the can of pumpkin, dumped it out, added the extras, poured out the mix, then read the instructions. (oh yeah - I read the instructions if all else fails

) It called for a small can of pumpkin, and I had the big Thanksgiving size can dumped and mixed in. I even called the company because I didn't want to waste everything. I looked up a recipe for pumpkin bread, read the ingredients on the back of the mix kit, and since the company couldn't even tell me what to put in to make up the rest (she was very, very nice to me, though) I decided to wing it - it was better than dumping it down the drain.
The company owner was so nice she shipped another package to me to fix it "right" - but we actually liked my "mistake" bread better!!!!!! Go figure....
I also have the Thanksgiving frozen turkey on the table stories, experimental fruit -a.k.a. mystery food, pepper instead of cinnamon, you name it....

(just wanted to use that smiley!) reservations for 12 made at the wrong restaurant once - we were dressed for the first place we intended to go to, wound up at the place I actually made the reservations - twice as expensive, and in our nice dresses and casual men's clothes, were woefully underdressed - but we ate there anyway!

Now, when my kids ask me if I can cook dinner, they actually mean, "Mom, will you please call Pizza Hut?"
