Hello I just thought it would be fun to start a thread about "what's for dinner"...there is nothing worse that coming home and looking around trying to figure out what to cook.... So I thought if we had a list of dinner ideas we could just come here and get one... I'll start, I'm off work today so we are having home made pizza, with homemade whole wheat yeast crust with all fresh ingredients, bacon, roasted garlic, feta, olives, tomatoes, mushrooms, red onions...mmm mm good! Your turn....

Sassy C, Your dinner sounds so much better than mine. Tonight we'll have chicken and rice (crock pot style) with steamed broccoli and salad. This morning DH loaded the crock pot up with chicken, carrots, celery, onions and peppers. Tonight I'll add the broth and rice and steam the broccoli. Um mm your pizza sounds YUMMY!
What's everyone else having?

Mine is so gross sounding I am not telling! The budget kills us everyweek I need help planning out meals and snacks. I am trying to avoid transfats and hydrogenated oils(because my mom says so) My budget is $80 week for everything(including dog food, detergent and that stuff) We are on our Dave Ramsey Total Money Makeover (thats why its only $80) I go shopping on Fridays and my fridge is already empty! HELP!!!
I am really sad that I don't live in the snow right now, I would be inviting my big butt to someones house!

I think whole chickens and boneless pork loins, especially when on sale, are some of the best bargains in the store. You can roast each and eat it that way the first night. Then leftovers can be things like creamed chicken over toast/biscuits, chicken tacos, shredded pork tacos, pork fried rice...things like that.
Hope that helps.

Great suggestion! We do that about once every six weeks or so...I just finished off the last of our chicken earlier this week with a chicken pot pie...I rather amazed myself as to how good it turned out! No pink if you can get through the stupid snow you are more than welcome for dinner..however we have a buget of 80 dollars a week as well and there are five of us...you'ld be amazed at how creative you can get and once in a while I do a no shop week which means we eats what's in the house/ freezer like it or not! (my hubby hates those weeks!)

Wow, sounds like we have some creative cooks on the board!! Speaking of pizza, last night we made homemade pizza and used flour tortillas for the crust... turned out really good (like a thin crust pizza!!) and sooo easy and fun!!
My favorite double meal is a crock pot roast (beef or pork) served on rice the first night and the second night chop the meat, add bar-b-que sauce and serve on a bun!!!

Hmmm...we are having leftovers tonight, but I think it was a good dinner last night.
We had stuffed green peppers...stuffed with beef, rice, tomatoes/sauce. It was my first attempt at them, and I think they turned out pretty good!

I finally figured out what to make - mandarin orange chicken with organic brown rice. I'm not sure about the sides, if any, but the chicken will be good and is easy to make. Thank you Trader Joe's!
Pinked - reading about your stuffed green peppers has made me so hungry!

No Pink Hugs~I'm right there with you on the "beans & rice" and "rice & beans" diet!!! Actually tonight I'll be cooking pork chops marinated in lemon and herb sauce and mashed potatoes. I don't really know how to cook, so this is about as fancy as I get for now.

Former: Sounds to me like you can cook! Tonights menu: Couscous Salad (couscous cooked, orange and red peppers diced, olives, feta cheese topped with your favorite salad dressing-mines home made olive oil and vinegar infused with garlic, put the salad in the fridge and serve cold) Grilled chicken with currie sauce.. Masala dal, (Indian lentil dish that's not to spicy and very tasty, I think I posted the recipe here before under Indian food) Nan flat bread, (easy to make) For the next two days as I'm working my family and I will be eating left overs from the rest of the week. Ginger I'll be trying you white chicken chilli! Velocity What is trader joes?

Sassy_C: Trader Joe's is a specialty grocery store. They sell a lot of mainstream products, but also have a lot of hard to find items. Its one of my favorite places to shop. www.traderjoes.com

Darn I was hoping it was a website with recipes. Closest one for me is Ann Arbour MI and that's still a 3 hr drive...but it certainly sounds interesting...is it expensive? It kinda looks that way.

Trader Joe's is not as expensive as you would think...I actually consider their items reasonably priced. Granted, you can find some things that are way more expensive than the corner store, but overall their items are competitively priced.
We also have a store called Sunflower Market, which offers a lot of great organic products and fresh produce. I enjoy shopping there as well.
