Tonight we went out for Chinese food! I have been sick and I wanted something good!

We went to our local Chinese Cantonese/Mandarin restaurant. we ordered our usual family style dinner C for 2, it comes with Choice of Hot and Sour soup (perfect for a cold) or egg flower soup to start and then they bring Fried shrimp (so tender and yummy) BBQ Pork, then pork fried rice, sweet and sour chicken and Mongolian beef (we asked to substitue Chicken chow mein this time, because I wanted the beans sprouts and sauce, and didn't really want heavy beef). They must have a new chef, because the food was exceptional! WOW, even Richard thought so!

They were even playing this absolutely beautiful Chinese music that sounded like heaven (o.k. so yes I thought maybe I had died over night and didn't know it). We had such a wonderful experience tonight, I doubt it could be redone! LOL  :hearts

Tonight's dinner will be a pork tenderloin (presently thawing out) and whatever frozen vegetables I can find in the full freezer in the basement.

We lost our refrigerator on Friday night; it started arcing and sparking and we were truly fortunate that (a) we were home when it happened and (b) someone was actually standing in the kitchen when it started.  Otherwise, it likely would have caught on fire and been a much worse drama than it was (we were up until after midnight moving things to the full freezer, disposing of perishable items, etc.)  So we bought a new one yesterday which won't be delivered until the 18th, so until then dinners will either be out, from the freezer or from boxes.  It'll be interesting having nothing perishable in the house for 2 weeks.

Last night, Mexican Salad. Easy recipe. I'll post on recipe section.

Tonight...I can't figure out. Coconut shrimp sounds good. But it's raining so some kind of comfort food sounds good to me.  smiley

OK Sassy, I'll bite, so what's the anti-McDonald's lecture?  Though I'm already getting pretty tired of the place so it probably won't be a hard sale...

Your too cute curious!

It's a long lecture...I've written it a few times around here somewhere....I just can't find it....if anyone knows can they please point curious in the right direction? Thanks.

One good fun way to get the lecture is watching the movie "Super Sized Me". It's a fantastic anti-fast food (mainly micky D's) documentary that is wonderfully done and very enjoyable to watch.

I've yet to meet anyone that has seen that movie and can still eat fast food in the same light if at all after watching it!

Let me know what you think!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WWIT is so right.....the fast food craving is a strong one....however most of us are out of touch with what our body's are calling for. Fast food cravings are in our brains because they add so much chemical (ever wondered why a french fry in say New York tastes the same as a french fry in say Texas?) It's those say chemical of taste that make us want more....it's not your fault they (the chemicals) are designed to make us want them.

Oops I never said carbs were the enemy...good carbs you know the ones you get from fruits and veggies and whole grains are a necessity for life. You are right about retraining  our taste buds to choose healthier foods. It's not easy and the chemicals (the very tasty ones) are designed to make us consume and consume and consume.
You may with your running and higher activity level be able to eat those unhealthy foods without any outward signs of distress from your body...(inside it will be working hard to compensate for unhealthy fuels)
I'm guessing you are younger than me...when I was in my early 20's I could eat whatever I craved...however in my late 20's and 30's my poor choices caught up with me....and I had to make changes.
BTW I work in an ICU where we do 4-8 coronary bi-pass surgeries a day....and not all of those patients are fat...there are many other prices to pay other than obesity for poor diet.
Also you have to want change.....Change is hard work and not everyone is ready to embrace it!

I'm so glad you joined the nutrition discussions

Though I do thank you for your concern for everyone's well-being, I'm probably pretty safe since I don't eat flour or sugar products, and that also includes at McD's.  I get my burgers without buns, just meat, cheese and the token veges.  I also get the occasional salad and occasional Big Breakfast there as well,  Though I have to keep throwing out the biscuit; I tell them not to give it to me but apparently the muscle memory of the morning crew there is quite strong so I always seem to get one.  Oh well, this will be over in about a week and I can go back to my daily food routines.

However, if you are going to go to a fast-food restaurant, what's nice about ordering burgers w/out buns is that they pretty much HAVE to make it fresh for you and then you get to watch the food handling on your own dinner.  It can be illuminating; I've more than once called a manager over and asked for an immediate refund since I can clearly see which food destined to be mine and I will call someone out for doing something gross.

LOL Curious, good for you about calling out someone miss treating your food!!!!!!  :yays:

I am bad about giving into McDonald's too, but I will stop as I keep reading what is actually in the food that you don't see! Did you know that their "Big Breakfast" is their highest fat and calorie content menu item? Yuck! In my humble opinion, eating at a place like McDonald's just keeps the big business machine going and letting them continue feeding us crap that will kill us!!!!!!!!  Love

Have you seen the IHOP (or is it Denny's?) commercial where the man tries to pay for a fast food breakfast with Monopoly money.  The cashier says that his money is not "real money."  So the man replies that the breakfast is not "real food."
