Thanks PC.  I have been looking for whole chickens on sale, but lately they have been so high!  I think they are on sale at the local grocery store this week so I am heading there on Fri.  What makes it so hard with our budget is that there is money elsewhere for our debt snowball!

I know - sometimes the chicken prices can suddenly jump.

I don't buy the brand name chickens like Tyson's. They're always more expensive. I used to get super cheap ones when I lived in MD - i have no idea why but they are much more expensive here. Maybe it depends on where you live.

I used to live near the Amish community - they always sold chickens too. Maybe that's an option depending on what part of the country you live in.

OMG, It's 9:00 am and I'm hungry for dinner, NOW!!!!!! LOL. You ladies made me hungry!!!!!!!! I will try the veggie burgers, and that pizza Sassyc, sounds wonderful!!!!!!! I have to admit that UYC's steak with fries sounded awesome too!!!!!! I eat way too much beef though! I have to cut back on that!!!!!!!!!  duel  crying

I too buy whole chickens and pork roasts, it saves money and I can cook them whole or cut them up into sizes I like. We also buy Ribeye roasts and cut them into steaks (usually MUCH cheaper)!

I am not sure what I am making for dinner tonight, we'll see!  smiley I'm hoping I have some Isernio chicken sausage in the freezer! That is the BEST sausage ever! It is only 3 grams of fat and YUMMY!!!!!!!

I'm not sure what we're having tonight but this is one of my favorite dinners...

I get a bag of frozen chicken tenderloins from Tyson (I'm told no hormones), dump them in my crock pot, and put KC Masterpiece Honey Teriyaki Marinade over them, and let them cook for 11 hours. They are so tender and yummy! I time-delay cooked some CalRose rice (the sticky kind you get in Hawai'i) and presto! Less than five minute prep through the day and dinner

Another sauce that my mother-in-law uses (I actually like better) is Mr. Yoshida's Hawaiian Sweet & Sour Sauce.

Anyway, the chicken can cook for so long, my husband has  at times thought they were actually ribs. *snicker* I really like the cooked chicken cold, out of the fridge.

***I should say, though, that the chicken was actually ready to be eaten within 3-4 hours of my putting it in the crock pot. I just let it cook (stirred it a few times) all day***

O.K., no Isernio sausage in the freezer so we went and bought some. It was on sale too!!!!! I have never seen it on sale!!!!! Yea!!!!!!!  smiley  bounce

So, we are having spaghetti made with the sausage (chicken sausage) YUM, Yum, YUM!!!!!!!! I didn't think about this until just now, but I should have bought a spaghetti squash and used that for noodles! Darn it!!!!!!

OMG we went to our local produce market and bought a bunch of apples, papaya, tomatoes, a pear (boyfriend only wanted one), blood oranges and Asparagus and only spent $8.00. We paid only $.39 a pound for Red Delicious Apples and only $.99 a pound for Asparagus!!!!! Great prices there! The papaya was weird tasting, it was a large one with kind of red flesh, it smelled like, well, like, o.k. the boyfriend says, like someones butt crack!!!!  rofl Sorry, but kind of true. It was an interesting taste if you could get past the smell! Won't go there again!  Sick

WWIT, Those are awesome prices for fruits and veggies.  I like papaya and have never noticed the scent you described.  Maybe try again in summer?  When are they "in season", though it seems everything is in season all year round these days?

Ginger, I use to the Yellow Papaya (yellow flesh and skin) and have never smelled anything like that!

UYC, what is your tortilla pizza recipe? Green Chili? Sounds yummy! Do you know how to make the green salsa like you find at small taco shops (Salsa Verde)? I tried one time and didn't like how it turned out!

My chicken sausage spaghetti was AWESOME!!!! Yum!  Love

tonight i made ribs in the crockpot. Just cut up the desired amount of onion ( i used 2 small), 3-4lbs ribs, and an entire bottle of your fave bbq sauce...or if you are like me and want to make your own..i used one can of condensed tomato soup, 1/2 cup cider vineger, 3/4 cup brown sugar, cayanne pepper (pinch), chili powder (tsp), salt (tsp), worcestershire(1 TBS). Cook on low for 7 hours. Meat fell right off the bone..mmmm.
I cut up the onion and prepared the bbq sauce the night before. That way when I got up this morning i just threw in the ribs, the onions and poured the sauce on and i was out the door. My pot has a keep warm setting which it switches to after 7 hours, but if yours doesnt, just cook it on low for 8 hours.

Wish I could say our dinner was interesting tonight...my mother gave us a ham bone so I made soup with celery, onions, barley and green peas. So our dinner consisted of soup and bread...boring but tasty and as a treat we made popcorn on the stove with a touch of butter and salt!
