The poison ivy is gone!  No more itching.  :yays:

Now there is just the problem of locating and ridding it from the yard. I am pretty sure I got it from my outdoor cat so I think I'll have to wash him.  :faint: Now that is truly going to suck. For both of us. LOL I need a big pitcher of  :tini: Anyway I had to whine about that real quick.  :gah:

A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition.

Can't you just sneak up on him and grab him and put him in the bath real quick?  Or is this the 22 lb monster cat we are talking about?  That would be a wrestling match!  Good luck!

Here's  some treats for the kitty!!!   :fish: :fish2: :fish: :fish2:  Maybe a distraction will help!

Feel free to whine! The last whinny thread was awesome (except for the itchy part...glad to here all is well in that department!)

If it were my backyard I'd be very tempted to get someone else (a pro) to rid my yard of the dreaded poison ivy! Mainly because I'm certain that I would end up on a ventilator if I ever got it again! YIKES!  :teehee:

And the cat......well you could give the cat half a human gravol (ah crap...what the US equivalent? .....Dramamine I think...dimenhydrinate is the generic name.) We give it to our cat prior to travel...makes him sleepy and it's vet approved too!

Good Luck with the Kitty! Love Love Love

Feel free to whine anytime you want! They're always hilarious!  :teehee: Except for the itching of course.  :teehee:

I too, would like to know if it's that monster you're going to have to wash...

Tam, now that's an idea, give the kitty a drink and he'll be all mellow and will never know he's had a bath til it's all over with  :teehee:

No, Ike is my 20 pound cat. He is inside and THANK GOD he never got poison ivy because he sneaks in bed with me at night! I would reallly be up sh*t creek. LOLLLLLLLLL

You guys are so mean. :rasp: Ike is not a monster, he is a linebacker. He did not get neutered until late in life and hit his full adolescent growth spurt at full speed. So you can blame his size on me.  rofl I'm the one who has to buy the cat food.

Anyway, back to outdoor cat. *sigh* I think I might try just washing the top coat with warm soapy water instead of immersing him in a bath. It's supposed to rain Saturday and he will want to come inside so I better stop procrastinating.  :gah:

Oh and just for the curious... I did have to wash Ike about 2 years ago.  I popped him into the kitchen sink and used the sprayer. He was so suprised that he didn't protest at all. LOLLLLLL Of course I had to SERIOUSLY spoil him after that and the spoiling is continuing to this day.

Julie,
Why don't you call the vets office and see if there is some kind of "dry" shampoo or something you can use besides the "dreaded bath with water" that would remove the poison ivy oil and not be toxic when kitty grooms herself?  That might be less traumatic to the outside kitty (isn't her name Desi).  I get confused with all the different cat names on the board

That's a good idea!

And Julie, I have nothing but fondness for Ike. I think it is so cute how big he is! It's funny too that he's so big and so spoiled, hehehehe!!!

:teehee: I know. I just had to rib on you guys for calling my beloved cat a monster. LOLLLLL  A pounce treat monster, maybe?  :laugh3:

Anyway, Desiree is my other spoiled indoor cat. She is a princess who has never set foot outside and doesn't intend to. And I am glad she doesn't have poison ivy oil on her because she also sleeps in my bed!

But that is a GREAT idea Lipstick! Why didn't I think of that.  :doh I bet even regular human dry shampoo might work!  :yays:

Julie , be careful with human dry shampoo, it may irritate the skin, and there may be something in it that may make the kitty sick...remember humans don't typically lick themselves!  I just want your furbaby to be safe.

I wonder if cornstarch would do the trick?  I have heard of people using it as a dry shampoo...don't know that it would be harmful for kitty...but just to be safe I would check it out!

Does your outdoor cat like to be brushed?  You would have to brush dry shampoo or cornstarch out..and be sure to wear long sleeves and gloves to protect you from poison ivy oil and remove the clothing inside out and throw directly in the washing machine by itself.

Good luck!!!

That will be the hard part, brushing it out. This cat likes to be petted but not held. Cornstarch is a good idea, but now that I am considering what it might take to brush it out (He's a medium hair cat) I am back to warm soapy water. LOL  Maybe I will call the vet.  :teehee:

Sure, or take him to a grooming place. You don't want poison ivy on your trip!
