Awww, sorry honey, that is miserable!!
My son had it not too long and I got some ointment that mother in law had, it worked wonders.... let me go see if I still have it... it is called Vanos (fluocinonide cream 0.1%) but you need a prescription, maybe your doc can call it in for you!! Good Luck!!

There are some products on the market over the counter for poison ivy, to take away the oils that cause the irritation. I haven't used them (thank goodness) but I think you may have to use them right away so I don't know if they'd help. Feel for you Julie!

Julie, I am so sorry you have poison ivy. My DH gets it at least once every summer and he uses a clear liquid called Caladryl. It's not visible, helps keep you from scratching so much. It's an over the counter product, that is sort of like a gel or clear liquid. If he gets it very bad, he has to go to the doc for a steroid pack. Be careful when you are gardening, as our doc said each time you get it, it will be a more severe case, so I guess your intolerance to it gets worse each time. I have never had it...so maybe some people aren't sensitive to it? I hope you get some relief soon!

I had it once and I feel for you. I had it all over and finally went to the doc and she gave me prednazone ( I'm sure that's spelled wrong) to take to help with the itching and I got calagel over the counter to help clear it up. It's probably about the same thing Lipstick is talking about. Hope it clears up soon for you!

I've had it as a kid and a couple times I got it while mowing the lawn. It really sucks! You itch really bad and scratching is what spreads it. Anyway, I went to 3 stores. Everyone is out of stuff except the super expensive ($35 for a 1 oz tube) We must be having an epidemic here. That was so annoying. I finally ended up with some of that wash that takes out the oil out. It says use it right away, but I'm gonna try it anyway. I also got some other stuff that the pharmacist recommended. They only had the kids version of that, but hopefully it will work. It might be better to have the milder version because I think I have some on my face in addition to my arm and my neck! AAAAAGGGHHHH this is all my fault for stupidly picking at what I thought was a bug bite during a meeting. I know I didn't touch any patients today and hopefully I didn't touch anyone else. Lippie, some people are not sensitive! One of my brothers isn't and he used to chase us with it when we were little. LOL What a little *^&$ So I am gonna go treat myself and then have a big glass of At least I only was gardening in one spot over the weekend so I know where to look. This weekend I will have to find a hazmat suit and go kill it.

Thanks, Goldie. Here's a picture of poison ivy in case anyone doesn't know what it looks like. Three leaves. It is sneaky though. I KNOW what it looks like and it still got me.

Wow, it doesn't look different than any other thing that grows. I'm not much of a gardener obviously, lol.

Lippie, some people are not sensitive! One of my brothers isn't and he used to chase us with it when we were little. LOL What a little *^&$ Sounds like your childhood was a lot like mine. I was the only girl and the oldest. My brothers chased me with frogs, snakes, bugs...you name it! So I am gonna go treat myself and then have a big glass of At least I only was gardening in one spot over the weekend so I know where to look. This weekend I will have to find a hazmat suit and go kill it. Make sure you don't decide to burn any of it. My DH cleared some "weeds" from the fence line of the first house we bought and decided to burn them...must have had poison oak or poison ivy mixed in with the "weeds". He had the worst case of poison ivy I have ever seen. He had it in his eyes, his nose. He had to get a cortisone shot and meds. The doc told him burning it just released the oils and the smoke and fire opened his pores, so that's why he got such a severe case. It was in late fall, so he was working in jeans and a long sleeved shirt with gloves, so that's why his face got the worst of it, and he probably brushed his face with his gloves or his sleeve too! Just be careful!

Oh gosh, no! Someone did that when I was kid. I heard all about it from my mom because my brother breathed it in (not the one who's not sensitive) and had to go to emergency. Poor mom. *sigh* I'm wondering if maybe I got it from my outdoor cat. If I have to wash that cat, that will really frost my cupcake!

That's a possibility, animals brush up against it and it doesn't affect them, but they rub against you or you love on 'em and the oil gets transferred to you and next thing you know you're itching!
Whoa, if you have to wash the cat, you'll probably end up with claw marks along with the poison ivy...I'd take the cat to the groomers and let them deal with it!

The cat is declawed, if you can believe that. A declawed hunting cat. He climbs trees too. I am sure he will do a number on me with his back claws. If I can even catch him. He was waiting outside the front door and rubbed on me the other morning. I remember being annoyed because I was getting ready to leave for work and he got cat hair on me. Craptacular.

Julie, we have 2 little dogs, a white Westie named Sparky, and a black & brindle Scottie, named Fergie.
It doesn't matter whether you are wearing dark clothing or light clothing, one of them will get hair on you. I keep one of those lint brushes with tape on the roller in the car and one at work, just for those pesky hairs!
