MLM free since 2006! :)

« on: June 26, 2008, 09:24:52 AM »

I was wondering this because I hate MLMs so much that I really hesitate to buy any product from them.  For instance, I have a friend who is still in Mary Kay.  I used to like the Indulge eye mask, but hesitate to buy it from her because I know that Mary Kay is a money pit.

And I was looking at an Avon book recently and saw several items that I thought I would like, but then again I didn't want to contribute to an MLM.

Do you feel the same way?

I don't have a problem with AVON. Participation in their MLM program is optional for their representatives. I like a lot of their products, although I haven't used any for years.

I don't buy products from things like Pampered Chef or most other MLMs because, for one thing, I don't want to go to the parties. Two, I don't want to be hounded by a "consultant." Three, I find that their products are over priced and I can get things I like much better at a better price. (I want to add that I don't shop price exclusively. I shop value.)

Good idea, no matter where you shop!

I did buy some MK at first, because I thought I couldn't live without some things...I was wrong!  I found lots of products that work the same or better and they are cheaper (and as UYC said I don't have to deal with the pushy consultant)

I like Pampered Chef, but I admit I haven't looked elsewhere for price comparisons.  I DON'T have parties.

When I was in MK my excuse for not having parties was always, I hold classes for my business, I can't justify having a party, when  I could/should be booking one for MY business.

I also buy Southern Living, I joined just for the discount, have never had a party or tried to book one.  I give a catalog to my good friends and if they want something I sell it to them at my cost, when I place an order.

I am rethinking  staying in it, because it is way cheaper to shop their clearance sales 2X a year when they discontinue items and introduce a new catalog.  I can do this through my friend, whom I joined under!

I wasn't aware that the MLM program is optional.  I just assumed that it was like Tupperware and their new comp plan.

I still don't like some of Avon's ads, though.  I feel that they are a little misleading when they mention that you can be your own boss, set your own hours, etc.

I worked my Avon business really hard, but made little to no money back in the 1980s and 1990s.  I still don't know many people in Avon who make some money.

I don't, mostly because they are overpriced compared to what you can get at Target or the mall. I hate parties  Sick so if I did really want something I would buy it online or check ebay.

I like some of Pampered Chef's items (sandwich press anyone?) I typically buy their stuff on Ebay as opposed to a consultant (you can find their stuff cheaper on Ebay depending on what it is).

I also like some of the Southern Living stuff, but haven't bought anything. My coworker does catalog "parties" from time to time for her daughter and that' how I get to see the books.

I will say I love party lite candles, and use the votives a lot. They are actually less expensive than what I can get a lot of other places. I have a "lady" who doesn't bug me, but a couple of times a year I buy several packs of votives from her.
I also love stampin up stamps/papers for making cards (I don't scrapbook too much....but cards are my thing) as they are a good price (that stuff is expensive) and I like the style of the products.

My family, many of them, still use MK products and love them. I've tried to get them to try other things---but they really do like most of the MK products they've used for years- so that's fine. The only MK product I personally use is the acne treatment gel, simply b/c it's hard to find one that isn't also loaded w/ alcohol or is 2x the strength, which ends up being too strong for me. Plus, it's soooo cheap for the size of the tube. That's all I use, and a tube lasts me for almost a year.
If I truly like the products better than something else available, I don't have a problem purchasing.

 :hello:

There are so many different MLM's out there and some are great some are a pain in the rear end....  as a consultant myself I try not to badger anyone or push anyone, i just let them "smell" my product and they're hooked.
I still buy from other MLM companies but I'm always firm and tell them I dont want to have a party, dont want to go to a party I just want to order, and EVERY consultant is happy with that.
If I like the product, I buy it.
