I just LOVE how informed this group is (and RTP, we could probably burn hours of politic talking... yikes). Our gas prices are hovering around $3.49/gal (northern California, but NOT SF, theirs are about $3.60). I was looking up something else on Google and was fowarded to CBSonline just before checking this thread... had to go back and copy the link to this article: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/04/01/business/main3984884.shtmlCongress Hits Big Oil On Renewable Energy Top Executives Grilled On Steep Gas Prices Vs. Big Profits, Efforts To Invest In Alternative Fuels I'm hoping to hear great things from Synfuels (.com, if gasoline molecule "cracking" sounds like fun reading for ya) since Chevron wasn't successful in buying (and then smothering) their technology. There was so much info in the reading here that I'll probably need to jump back and read again, but I wanted to share this. Ciao

Okay...our gas is up to $1.15/L....UGH! Which is approximately $4.47/gallon! And the "experts" are expecting $1.40/L by early summer...OMG that's $5.44/gallon! Sick ~SIGH~ I'm feeling weak in the knees.....how can demand go up that much in two months! I'm starting to feel like the gas companies are setting what ever price they like....putting "experts" in the news to break the up coming high prices to the general public so that we aren't surprised by what ever price they set? UGH! Perhaps I don't really understand how this price setting gets done....but if anyone could enlighten me and make me feel better about potentially having to pay over $5.00/gallon soon...I would really love that!

The prices are of concern, Hofmeister said at the time, adding a note of optimism: "Our industry is extremely cyclical and what goes up almost always comes down," he told the skeptical senators on a day when oil cost $60 a barrel. Im just curious as to when they are gonna come "down"...waiting waiting waiting...

I am noticing it a lot more the past couple of weeks. Gas is up to $3.49 a gallon. They say it will get to $4 in the next couple of months! Yikes. Bottled water is .20 more a gallon than I used to pay and yesterday I bought chicken feed and it was $12.99. I am used to paying around $8.50 for that sized bag. I haven't noticed it much in the price of food, though. But I always shop the sales and use coupons anyway so maybe my cheap ass automatically passes by the stuff that was inflated. Either that or I am in denial which is also entirely possible. Here's to us all getting a raise!

3.79 a gallon in Southampton NY. I really hate the gas companies. They are the only ones turning a profit in this non-recession. I am trading in my Sport Trac for a Focus. Please tell me I will love this car!

Lori -
Let me know if you like the Focus, I'm considering dumping the SUV for something easier on gas too. Gas between $ 3.47 -3.52 gal.

Thing over here are not doing that great either! Electricity is up 200% from last year, water bill is up 400% and on Saturday I went to the grocery store and end up paying $88.00 for 4 bags of groceries. Gasoline is $3.92 a gallon. And the gas 100 lb. tank is almost $100.00. Everything is up, except your pay check.

I totally forgot to gripe about the electricity costs too! Thank you Zaid! In 2004 in the same house w/ same amount of people, we ran $75 (summer months lower usage due to constant daylight) to $89 per month. Now we're lucky if we can squeak by under $200/mo. Candlelight dinner anyone? Medical costs are what is really driving people out of their homes, I have relatives that are in some real pickles b/c of it, and I'm lucky to have made it through last year. We were able to claim $27,567.and some change as OUT-OF-POCKET medical expenses for 2007. Yikes. Glad I didn't have any MK debt to go along w/ that or it would just burn my toast! Goodbye, hard-earned savings. I will miss you. You were going to be my trip to Bermuda, to that wonderful Atlantis hotel that is so out of my league. Or perhaps a boat. Or smarter yet, some college funds for the kids. Ah, the ever-elusive dollar. We work so hard to get it, only to watch the government take their cut, so we run home with the leftovers all cheery with plans, then we check the mail. Bills. Bills. And more bills.

I filled my car with gas yesterday and it was $3.81 per gallon and that was in the cheapest station in town. It is up over $4.00 in most gas stations in S. California.

I know I'm a little late on this one, but just had to say OH MY GOD!!! I dread the groceries store now. We buy six gallons of milk each week, (we have three small children) it is outrageous what they charge. We now buy milk at Cost-co, it is quite a bit cheaper there. Here are a few things I do to save money. I walk to the school to get my son, with my little ones in the stroller, we use the wood stove instead of the heater. Wood is expensive, but you can get a permit to go cut down a specific amount from the woods, and it's only $20. It's hard, but cheap! I do go to the groceries store twice a week and look for sales on meat. You know the one's, expires in 3 days, but good for months in the freezer!! My local grocer had corned beef for $1.00. I try to re-purpose left overs. Like if I made spaghetti, then I use the left over sauce on chicken with cheese and call it chicken Parmesan, and serve the left over noodles as a side. Really the same meal, but enough difference to make them eat it. We cut out all our restaurant trips. I really miss that, but I do have more money. And as to the install a wood burning stove. That is a great idea, but please have a professional do it!! My husband did ours, but he is a contractor. He knows all the codes and fallows them to the letter! It can be very dangerous if not done properly. Well, thanks for "listening"
