Gas here (So. IN) has gone up $.50/gal to $3.79 in the past 3 weeks. I know they are just trying to get the price up to $4.00 by the time school is out. The price of gas is driving everything else up too....anyway, I know everyone is suffering, just thought I would voice my frustration!

What are they thinking? I mean, what, if any goal other than profit, is their goal with all the price increase? Are they trying to find our breaking point at which we break down and quit driving enough to stop a certain amount of pollution? Hahahaha, ya, oil companies interested in saving the environment. For a minute there I thought maybe they cared. It's a nice theory though, right? If that were really their goal though, they could just ration it, and then only that amount could get into the air. (shhhh don't give them any ideas!)

I don't think they care about the environment. They only care about lining their pockets with our money. I saw a piece on the news last night about "America the land of plenty" and how can it be that people are "finding the shelves empty". Anyway the gist of it was that people are suffering as more of the money in their pockets is going to gas and less is left over for food and other necessities. The food banks are getting more people in need and only being able to help them once every 30 days with a 4 day supply of food. It is really sad and people are not finding the extra cash to make donations to the places that are helping those who can't make it to the end of the month or their next pay check!

OK people, I spent $75 on gas today. That's right $75!!!! I am having trouble dealing with this fact. I think I may have crossed a line, and I might need a . Crap, It's only the beginning of summer too.

On Wednesday 5/21 (for some reason every Wednesday gas goes up), gas here went up $.21 to $3.95/gal. On the same day the price of oil per barrel went down $2.00, so raising the gas prices does not make any sense, except that this is Memorial Day weekend. I don't think anyone can afford to drive anywhere...we can hardly afford to buy ground beef ($3.26 a lb) to grill out at home! Can you tell this subject really makes me MAD? It will be interesting to see what the oil company's profits are for this quarter...we know they have to be making money hand over fist...GRRRR! Our granddaughter is graduating next Sunday and it will cost us $150 in gas alone (roundtrip) to see her graduate...that doesn't include the gift. I am almost tempted to give her $150 for a graduation gift rather than line the pockets of the oil companies, but we really hate to miss her big day and her Graduation Party!

Jeepers Creepers! I drove by the gas station where I spent the $75 (still over that). Gas has hit $4.01 today. So I am glad I spent the $75 yesterday instead of the ~$85 I would have spent today! Holy Cats. I am predicting $5 a gallon here July 4 week. Will check back with y'all to see if I'm right. I had planned to go hiking today about 1 hr and 15 min from home so we change our plans to go Monday about 20 min away. At least, it will be a warmer day so there's that. That stinks to have to spend so much just to see your granddaughter's graduation, Lipstick. I know how you feel. That is what I am dreading this summer. We can change the location of our picnic or hike or whatever but some of those family events and weddings are really gonna take a chunk o the budget. I have been shopping art Aldi's and got my summer clothes on Ebay so I am trying to get stuff as cheap as I possibly can. I really feel bad and pray for people that are unemployed right now. It's just crazy.

I agree with Lipstick, why do gas prices GO UP (holiday weekend) when oil prices went down,if not gouging? Of course, gas always goes up Wed here, cheaper on Mon's & Tue's but $ 50 for 3/4 tank is not cheap! Plus, everyone still has other expenses and no increase in pay to cover these stupid gas prices! AGHH!

If we just tell our bosses, "If you want me to continue coming to work I'm going to need a raise to cover the gas to get here", all over the nation at the same time, they'd have to give in, right? Or everything would collapse w/o any workers. Another fantasy theory of mine...

Oh ya, and by the way, I paid $95 (yes, read that as NINETY-FIVE) dollars (USD) to fill up DH's truck last week. Gas is well over $4.10 here now. I just got a gander at my original post in this thread and Sassy was right. was I complaining about back then when gas was *only* $3.29? I'm right there with you Julie. I was looking at the old car sitting in the driveway (the one that is our 'back-up' and needs a little TLC) and thought, "by George, we could sell that thing and then be able to afford a whopping TEN tanks of gas!!!" Whooppeee. Where's the bicycle emoticon? Cuz that's what we're all gonna be doing alot of soon...

Gas always goes up before a holiday weekend, at least Memorial day and Labor day. I have been noticing this for years and I always make it a point to fill up on the Thursday before. And it happened again this year. It went from 3.97 to 4.01 overnight. I think it has a lot more to do with greed than actual oil prices. =I am hearing on the news that a lot more people are carpooling. They are noticing this on the construction sites because the congestion is not as bad as anticipated. I am sure the carpooling and biking that people are doing are biting into their profits. So they figure let's make the holiday traveler's pay for it. B*st*rds.

The news last night, said lots of people were opting to stay home for the holiday because of gas prices. Earlier in the week they had a piece about more people buying scooters to get around town in because they use less gas!
The other problem is that anything we purchase, the prices are going up also, because of transportation costs. None of our salaries are going up. Right now I am thankful that we have just enough to get by on and trying to cut back where I can, we plan oour trips into town to do everything at one time to save gas and we have been staying home and eating in instead of spending money eating out.
I just feel sorry for those people who have no "wiggle room" in their budgets and they were barely getting by before.

Me too, Lipstick. I have been shopping at Aldi's and clipping coupons and I bought some summer clothes on Ebay. I haven't eaten out in God knows when, except a dinner meeting that my company paid for. LOL I even had a glass of wine but only because one of the VP's insisted on buying me one. I was too scared to even know how much one cost. But I am eating and have enough to pay my bills, so I am very grateful for that. Tonight
