Just wanted to get everyone else's take on an unexpected e-mail I received today from a friend from grammer - high school.  We were close in school but I think we've had lunch 1 time in the last 4 years and went to a baby shower of a mutual friend 4 years ago.  Other than that, no contact.

I got an e-mail along the lines, "just wanted to let you know good news, I'm getting married"  Then 4 hours later I get an e-mail invitation to a bridal shower for this woman.

Please post your responses.  I'm sitting back, waiting.. anxiously!  :tini:

A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition.

My thoughts aren't in the poll.....I think it's tacky to invite somebody to a bridal shower if you haven't seen or spoken to them in 4 years....and isn't it unacceptable to have a bridal shower the 2nd time around?

That's just the old lady's opinion.  I know things are done differently now!
If you go you could get her something like a photo album or a nice frame for a wedding picture...sentimental but not overly pricey, since she hasn't been in contact until time to buy presents!

Or you could volunteer to take pictures at her shower and put them in an album for her!

I'm with Lippie! It's a gift grab! I'd be working or out of town on the day of her shower......

I also agree that a shower is for first weddings....ya know....young people starting out that actually need a mixer for the kitchen?

I'd send a card.....Her way of invites/notification of the wedding a bit rude and tacky...but you can still be happy for her, despite her total lack of class!

Let us know what you decide!

Yep....tacky. I like the expression "gift grab."  :teehee: Oh, I didn't know it was unacceptable to have a wedding shower the second time around. I thought people just didn't do it because you usually have two of everything by then. LOL Who needs a 3rd toaster?  :laugh3: At least she didn't send the invitation and ask for "cash only."  rofl

Sorry - I was the acceptable vote - BIG MISTAKE  :mato.  I guess I need to finish my coffee.  I think it was okay for her to invite you - but even more okay not to go (and not to send a gift).  I think showers are 'gift grabbers' anyway - even for first timers.  Most couple are living together and have most of the household goods already.  If I do get invited, I don't look at the registry, I have a standard gift that I give to everyone that runs about $35.00.

Tacky. Gift-grabbing.

Contact pinkdebt20k here and get one of those platinum compacts from her. It would make a great gift!

Come to think of it, get several. Tell her she can use them as bridesmaid's gifts.   :teehee:

OK seriously - who has a bridal shower for the SECOND wedding?  The whole purpose of a bridal shower is to get the couple things to start off their lives with.  Obviously, if you are getting married for the second time, your life is sufficiently underway!
