The law firm where I work publishes a staff newsletter every month.  They asked us in the November edition to submit our favorite December holiday traditions.   Below is what I submitted.  Let's share!!

Christmastime is so special to me.  I lost my parents many years ago and thankfully I still have my in-laws, who always go above and beyond the call of duty at every opportunity.  On Christmas morning, after my children have ripped through their presents, we eat a quick breakfast, get dressed, and drive about 45 minutes to my in-laws' home.  We spend the entire day with them, exchanging gifts, eating delicious food, playing games, watching football on TV, and just having the most perfect of days.  The hustle and bustle of the outside world is left "out there" and the feeling of family is all there is.  They bestow upon me more than just presents in pretty paper--they provide hours upon hours of precious family time, memories, tradition, and more love than anyone could ever imagine.

I guess my tradition involves my husband and me spending the day together. We don't usually join friends or family. It's our day. It's leisurely. I make Eggs Benedict for breakfast and my special duck recipe for dinner.

I started doing a Xmas open house about 3 years ago and it is becoming a tradition. I invite neighbors and friends. I spend weeks cooking tons of appetizers. It's a lot of fun for me and has been a great success.

Last year, before getting out of the pink fog, I got sick of only asking people over for MK things, so I had a cookie party. Everyone makes a bunch of their fav. holiday cookies & brings them, then we all split them up & send everyone home with some of everyone's treats.  We also can distribute recipes if we want.  I am doing it again this year.
I also love making homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast X-mas morning.  I love to bake- could you tell?
I love Christmas at home with just my kids & hubby & I, in our jammies.  I'm getting excited just talking about it!  :trky:

Your Christmas is my dream.  Seriously.

Both my family and DH's family live very very close.  So we are expected to be at everyone's house.  We get up before the crack of dawn, about 4am and run around like crazy people all day long.  I wish we could make Christmas into a weekend and not 1 day.  Oh the joys of family.  smiley

Ginger...isn't it funny (kinda) that we people always want what someone else has? While I LOVE my "just the two of us" Christmases and other holidays, a part of me just really feels sad that I don't have a family to spend it with. Never have had a really "normal' lots-of-family holiday. Makes me sad sometimes.

But Ginger...I'll write you a note to get you and hubby out of the responsibility and then you can stay home all by self.  :teehee:
