When I hear stories about "far away" places and the struggles the people have there..
How they have no rights...
How they are lucky if they have a meal each evening...
I wonder...how am I so lucky to be in the country I am in...
We take it all for granted.

Many people really do take for granted what they have here! We have so much! We have so much to be thankful for. I have always wanted to go on a mission trip and to have the pleasure to give of myself to others who have basically nothing!! I truly believe my day will come when I can go to another country and help them in any way I can!!

I am thankful too that I live in this country. It is a blessing that I don't have to keep my religion a secret. I have a car to drive and food to eat and my house is heated. And, oh yeah there is running water and it's even hot. I can afford to feed a pet and pay for extra channels on my TV! Thanks for this thread. I can complain about gas prices or holiday crowds but I have it better than 99% of the world and should learn to keep my mouth shut. Lesson well taken.  |

Great thread! When my husband tells me stories about Iraq and the people there I am so thankful to have been born an American. Not black or white, not christian or jew, not rich or poor, but American. This is truly the greatest country on the planet. We may not be the oldest, the most educated, the best cooks or wine makers, the finest builders, painters, or sculpters, or even have the most beautiful people....but here, in America, you can have, make, build, grow, buy, earn, see, do, go, be, say, enjoy, love, hate, learn, and find anything and everything. There are no limits in America. Even if it is illegal, you can still do it, and then go to jail, and then STILL live better than the poorest poeple in most countries!!!!!!

PB&J - If you are ready for the troops to come home, are you ready to defend your country at home? I don't want to stifle anyone, and I don't want to start a fight. With my husband, and his best friends, in Iraq now, can we please keep this kind of thing minimal? I want him and all of the troops home, but I also want to believe that they are doing it over there so we don't have to do it here. They signed the dotted line, so they knew what they were signing up for (or what COULD happen when they signed up) and they are ALL VERY BRAVE HEROS, and I don't think anyone here would argue that. That being agreed upon, can we not discuss things like whether they should come home or not, because WE DO NOT MAKE THOSE DECISIONS, and from solders THERE who really DO LISTEN to these things, IT BREAKS THEIR HEARTS to hear that people don't believe in their cause. (That is straight from the soldiers!) Thats all. Carry on. |

Just because someone says they need to come home doesn't mean they don't believe in "The CAUSE"!! Especially a vet!

You didn't offend me at all girl! And I apologize if I sounded that way. I just don't want to start a fight on the board. I do agree with you, and I also hear from soldiers all the time about how hurtful it is to hear that people don't believe in what they are doing. I know that is not what you were driving at, but just another view point.
I appreciate your service to our country, and I think you are a better person, and better suited to speak about those things, than MOST people are!!!!!! GBU PBJ!!!!!!
