I was listening to a really interesting radio program last weekend about yoga. Made me wonder if anyone here practices it.

I have done it in the past! I want to get back into it! I lost more weight and toned more doing yoga than a whole pile of cardio (which includes tons of icky sweat)

I would recomend a class...that way you get some direction on your poses to ensure that you are getting the most benefits from your movements!

Have some friends that do it. I have heard that you lose weight doing it.  So right now I'm in the process of finding a class near my home.  :coool2

I had a video I did once, included a lot of stretching.  Boy it would really wake you up in the am!  Unfortunately it got lost during a move many years ago.

Well, the really bad thing is, I remember most of it!    blushing  It was neck rolls, side to side, front to back, arm rolls, forward, reverse, hands flat, up, and down (that was when the coffee was done) actually most of it could have been done sitting down!   wink  Well, darn, now I'll have to try & get up 10 mins early!   :gah:   :ooops:

I am a yoga instructor.  I LOVE it.  It yields terrific results if you do a good workout religiously.  Even my arms get tone.  There are good tapes and bad tapes out there.  I can make suggestions for anyone interested.  I am also considering making my own video.  I do hard core yoga, senior yoga, and even chair yoga for those who have trouble with their back or joints, etc.

I take a yoga class and I LOVE it!  It does require a lot of strength, but the nice thing is that the instructor will usually offer you ways to modify the poses if you can't get into them yet.

I was really happy last week when I got into upward facing dog for the first time!  I still have to modify crocodile and plank, though, but I am getting close to holding a full plank.

I took a series of yoga classes a couple of years ago and really liked it.  It's difficult to find available classes in this area without spending a fortune.  I always think that I'd like to start doing it again - I should look for a DVD.

Browneyes - I like the idea of the senior & chair yoga too.  I was just discussing the importance of balance exercises for older folk last night.

Brown eyes, it would be really cool if you could make a list of some of the different positions and the names for them....some of the positions I know but I forget the names....PinkMigraine got me thinking about the names for Yoga positons...how long are you supposed to hold a plank position anyway?

I'm really interested in the leg strengthening positions...my upper body is very strong....my lower body...ugh...my legs are weak and fat....I need lots of help!  :gah:  :shpwrk:

Better than that, I can give you a list of positions for a decent workout.  Let me get my head together and I will post a good workout for ya!   Legs, huh?  Gotcha!

I would be really interested too.  I bought a dvd but haven't tried it yet.  It was reccomended for pinched nerves in my neck.
I live in a small town and no one here does any classed.  After reading you posts I can't wait to give it a try.

I have two bulging discs in my lower back and every time it flares up, I do a series of yoga poses to get it back in whack.  It really does help.

You ladies give me a few days to get something together and I will post a few ideas!

Also, you can go to yogajournal.com and type in your condition or your area of focus and it will give you some poses.  It breaks it down and gives you info on it.  IT's a great resource!
