because of my skin problems with sever cystic acne

If you have sever cystic acne you really need to see a Dermatologist ASAP.  They can give you an Accutane prescription and it will clear it up, forever.

Been there done that over 15 years ago and I am ever so thankful.

Diet Center?  What is that??  I am missing some history!

Diet Center
was founded over thirty years ago by Sybil Ferguson in my home town.  It was one of the HUGE diet programs way back when, right along side Weight Watchers.  People lost weight... I never realized until now how similar it is to a MLM (it was/is a franchise-type.  Sybil wrote books and traveled the world to "pump up" the franchise owners.  They made a lot of money.  When I was a teenager, they sold the house two-doors down and built a mansion on an "estate" outside of Rexburg.  My dad designed and oversaw the landscaping for both them and their son's house the next year.  He was in hog heaven because he spared no expense!  Beautiful landscaping, a three-hole golf course, water features...But I digress.  Sorry!

I actually thought DC went away after they sold it but it's just not in Idaho anymore....  blushing  It's just elsewhere (even here in Utah) in the country.

I only met Sybil a handful of times, but my next door neighbors knew her intimately.  All I ever heard growing up was "Sybil this" and "Sybil that".  When their mom spent time in the hospital (manic episode) when the youngest was just months old, Sybil stepped in and took care of all four children.  But fifteen years later, something happened between them and she cut them out of her life...  She's human, I guess.

Now Rexburg has a Melaluca plant that I think Sybil's son has a part of running it or something like that--but like I mentioned once or twice already--DON'T QUOTE ME ON THAT!!!  I'm out of "that" loop anymore...

Anyway, that's a very brief (probably incorrect even though I tried to be correct) description of Diet Center...

Edited to add another link of a description by someone that appears to know what they're talking about!

I signed up for Melaleuca ( pieface) even knowing that it was MLM.  I had already faded away from MK and my "friend" who bought all kinds of MK stuff from me invited me again to an event.  I got excited after seeing another demonstration of the products and told how they were so much safer for me (I had heard this once before but I was still in the pink fog so somehow I resisted it).

So anyway, I signed up (even though DH kept telling that I was getting into something that had purchasing requirements).  I did it for my friend.  I received the product and immediately cancelled my customer agreement.  I could have sent back the product but didn't.  I figured my friend and I would be even with our purchases from each other.

Just keep in mind that it is MLM and that you will hear the stories of supersuccess in Melaleuca.  Resist those and close your ears to all of the hype and motivation.  One thing I vaguely remember is that there were monthly ordering requirements. Melaleuca uses (or used) product points or volume or something like that.  When I signed, I thought the product points required were 35 per month - which equated to about $50 or $60.  There might be the option to just purchase the product with out the discount (regular price vs. preferred customer/pc).

Xdirector - Keep focused on why you are in Melaleuca - to buy the products since you have found something that works for your skin.

I know, I know.   Boo on me.

Even when signing up, I knew I shouldn't.  I just think that I didn't want to say no to my friend (that same guilt that one gets when you feel like you have to buy from your friend at her party because she bought from you at your party).

I also think that I was feeling like MK didn't work for me because of issues with me and not the system of MK.  So I ordered this "safe" cleaning stuff, received it and then mailed my letter of customer agreement cancellation (yep, it was already written; wrote it right after placing the order I think).

I have a question though regarding these safe cleaning products - why do they have the same message about calling poison control if swallowed.  If they are so much safer than pine-sol or soft scrub or tilex, why would I have to call poison control?  In both of the Melaleuca presentations and demonstrations I attended, someone said that their child accidentally drank it.  In a panic they called poison control.  The parent said that they were asked what the child had swallowed and when the parent told them it was Melaleuca, the poison control person told them "not to worry b/c it was Melaleuca and it was safe".   faint

So again, if it is safe, why have those warnings on the containers like all of those unsafe products?  Just one of those things that make me say Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I know nothing of Melaluca.  And I'm not trying to be rude, but this sounds like MLM BS made up stuff.

I clean naturally using baking soda and vinegar.  But that's another topic.  smiley

Oooppsss, that gave me a thought..........there really ought to be a law that ALL MLM contracts/agreements should say "BEWARE!!  Joining this company will definitely be hazarous to your pocketbook and prolly hazardous to your health as well"   sick

Ginger: it IS made up MLM BS, as you put it.

Mela is exactly like Amway. And they are similar to every other ripoff MLM that sells diet supplements, magic "gas pills", and the like. They all make claims about their products that sound great, just to justify the the fact that they are completely overpriced compared to the same product at WalMart (or wherever)

Ginger - I agree.  It sounded like BS to me when I heard it, both times.  I am convinced that it was someone who was already a Melaleuca customer/rep who had been "planted" in the audience to say that.  It sure got people going though.  Those kinds of claims probably get them a high signing rate.

Melaleuca is another scam.  My in-laws got into it deep.  The company doesn't rely on sales to people outside the business.  They keep everyone in the business moving up by insuring that everyone has an automatic order that they receive each month.

If you don't sign up for this automatic order the product cost is outrageous.

Even after seeing them fail in Melaleuca I still signed up for Mary Kay.  I fell for the lines about how different MK was, how their marketing plan was taught at Harvard.  Ya... they teach why it's a bad idea. giggle giggle giggle

littlet:

that's exactly the problem with these "wholesale buying" types of MLMs like Amway, etc. You end up spending way more than you make, cuz nobody needs that many cleaning products and vitamins per month - but that's the way it's designed.

MK and other party plan MLMs take a slightly different approach, in that they confess to want to sell the product to an outside customer at a retail cost....too bad the whole things sucks either way.  giggle

I Tried this co before and didnt find success in it either. You have to order a monthly minimum and if you forget to place an order they send an automatic order. To work it as a business you have to convince people to listen to a conference call and again try to get them to join...seems to me that it is still a MLM no matter how you slice it. They did have good cleaning products though...but i find great if not better deals at Wholefoods stores.

I have been a Mela customer/market executive since 1994. I was introduced to the company by sister MK consultant who had severe
allergies. I converted my home to these environmentally safe cleaning products and have been truly satisfied. I use many of the food
supplements and vitamins and find them superior to GNC, Vitamin World or any at Walmart, CVS etc. Some products like Glucosamine
started at Melaluca. I usually combine my order with a few friends who were once in the company and it works fine. Being a customer
and purchasing a set amount every month has never been an issue. The company also had a Long distance Phone plan that was cheap
when AT&T & MCI were killing everyone with their rates. They also add 10% of your monthly points now and let you choose free products when
you get to 20 points. Met many former MK Directors and former consultants when I joined. Everyone has always been kind and supportive
and if you want to recruit(which I don't do) there is someone always willing to help you in a nonthreatening way. Again, people may have
a different view if they are in a saturated market area for Melaluca. I don't particullarly care for the Nicole Miller line and the prices even
with the 30% discount.

I just wanted to say that this is not true.  It's just another BS MLM lie that companies make up to reel people in.  If you are happy with Melaluca, that's fine.  But remember that they sugar coat things, just like MK makes everything pink.

Ginger you say in one post that you do not know anything about Melaluca then you state that they did not introduce Glucosamine. If they did not introduce it they introduced a much cheaper and superior product than
what is sold in Health Food atores or Drug Stores. My husband has severe arthritus and it is the most superior
product he has tried and he has tried them all. Because there are so many of these joint supplements on the
market Melaluca in the last few years even lowered their price to 9.99 from 19.99 (other similar packaging is
23.99 to 37.99). I don't deny the MLM factor involved but I have enjoyed the products since '94 and met nice
members and am never pushed to buy more or recruit. I find savings with the concentrated formulas and am
never at a loss for something to purchase that is worthwhile for my household.
