Rockin' and rollin' at the lighthouse!

« on: September 24, 2006, 02:06:19 AM »

OK so at my j-o-b I get the chance to work with different people.  Tonight I worked with someone I had seen but never actually worked with.  In what I do its all about teamwork, and then in your down time you get to hang out with your team members.

So I ask this guy -is this your only job- and he says -no, I have another job that pays more and I run a business-

THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MY WARNING SIGN.

But later, I asked again, this time about his business... and he says... "I'm glad you asked! The company I work with was started by two guys and a 64,000 microsoft blah blah blah blah..."

This was -verbatim- the same line of -crap- that got said to me over 2 years ago when a fellow teacher at the school where I taught was telling me about this company.

For those of you who don't know, it's the reincarnation of Amway.

Anyway, I told him I was already familiar with his company and I am -not- interested, and he said, -don't make a decision until you have all the information- and  wanted to  Sick.  I said, look, I have been involved in another company that is very similar and I did not enjoy my experience so please, I don't want to hear any more because I am not buying anything and you're not recruiting me.  He says -oh, we don't recruit, we have people who come to us... what company was that? Oh, MK? What do they sell? Well, we have a wider range of products blah blah blah-

So basically their tactic is to tell people they have a -business- and when someone asks for more information about -their business- that means that they came to them and not the other way around so when they get signed up they fool them into thinking it was their idea all along.

A TRAP!

I got sucked into going to a "business training" by one of my friends when I was in college.  That's exactly what they do--go on and on and on about their "business" and how great it is.  "You can get rich by just buying toilet paper!"   I never did figure out how you could get rich by buying something.  The meeting I was at was even more cult like and pressure filled than anything I've exprienced with MK.  My friend bought it hook, line and sinker.

You owe it to yourself to JUST LISTEN.  And then after you listen, you have to listen some more, and listen some more, and listen some more.  Because no doesn't really mean no.  It just meanst hat you need more infomration.  Liar

I got involved with this site and the others to gather information for my son and his girlfriend, both had been approached by MK and Amway. I was in MK about 20 years ago (things haven't changed from then). His gf signed up before I could talk to her but after I showed her these sites, she changed her mind (with no inventory)
My son was approached by a someone also in the military about Amway. Luckily, PC had just posted the Dateline info and  I had him watch that.
So thanks to all of you, you've managed to save these two from going into debt.

I just want to add, I may seem like a lurker here but I usually don't reply to posts unless it's something that personally affects me. I have been out of MK almost 20 years but everything I hear and read shows me that things haven't really changed much.

That's okay. You can lurk as much as you want. Most people don't respond to everything. You're normal!

Sandy, thanks!  I always said I would NOT be one of those mothers who puts her baby's picture as her avatar because I want to be me.  How could I resist such a cute picture though?  He was four months old in that picture.  He's turning one in two weeks, but still a total cutie.

PPA, I think you handled this very well.

I went to one of their meetings.  I got invited by people who went to my then church.  There was a lot of hype at the meeting.

One of the most unbelieveable thing about this meeting is when the leader's wife said that she almost threw away a $10,000.00 check.  Now, I ask you -- why would you almost throw away a $10,000.00 check?  When they said that I thought "Were you just telling me that so you would get me to believe that you had so much money that you wouldn't miss a $10,000.00 check?  How dumb do you think I am?"

The worst thing about Quixand is that I saw how it infected the people at my former church.  This couple, along with a high school friend and her entire family were involved.  All of them were still working at jobs for years along with trying to build their Quixand business.  They are so into the Quixand that I don't know if they will ever get out.

Dee -

I saw a church leadership meeting degenerate into complete pandemonium one time when a church leader was supposed to get up in front of the group with a markerboard and explain some new outreach program we were supposed to start.

He got up there and said, "Before I do that, I wanted to show you something really quick first" AND PROCEEDED TO START "DRAWING THE PLAN" FOR AMWAY/QUIXTAR.  I kid you not.  There was complete silence for a few seconds (from shock) and then the room erupted. :gah: :del: :ign:

Needless to say, he was hustled out really fast and was not asked to do a presentation again.  Ever.  :1lmao:

Well, I guess that is one way to try to have a captive audience and/or get out of doing endless presentations!

I do believe the story you told, but I guess it is because I have seen some strange things in MLM.

I assure you it happened.  I was there.  :laugh3:

Everyone thought it was a joke at first....I mean, who would do something that stupid??  He had to have known they would not let him finish.

Maybe he thought it would spark interest in someone and they would ask him about it later. :rub:  I dunno.
