I'm almost never 100% serious.....I do take the "health nut" ribbing's quite well and all in good humour! I work in an ICU...we specialize in Cardiac surgery, Neuro/Sx, and generally very sick medicine patients. I'm very fortunate to love my job and I am fascinated by stuff deemed "gross" by many people! I find people in general very fascinating...and I'm learning every single day I go to work! I love that! I also feel a sense of honour and pride to help people through what is most likely one of the most stressful times in their and their families lives....truly a humbling and beautiful career. Sorry for hijacking your thread SassyL!

It's awesome that you view it like that. I don't think many emergency responders & people in positions like yours remember that they're seeing people in what is likely the worst & most terrifying time of their lives, for the sick person and all connected to them. Or they take for granted how little those of us outside the medical field understand about what's going on. After all, Grey's Anatomy and ER can teach us only so much about subdural haematomas in an hour!! I even had to google the spelling of the dang thing!

Sassy C...the more I read the things you post the more I say.."oh we're so familiar.." I had a 52 hr labor w/my first...and I was a dispatcher/911 call taker. I have heard everything under the sun. Some very happy things, like helping dad's deliver their babies in cars, very sad things, and very disturbing things. I loved my job because I felt that I was helping people in the worst "minutes" of their lives. It was stressful too because you are just hearing it and can't "do" anything about it. Sure you send help, but let me tell you the worry that you get over perfect strangers...I don't dispatch now. I need to focus on my little one and the hours are too demanding, but I think I'll go back after she goes to school.

Dispatching would be very hard! To only be able to hear a person, in distress...OMG I give you credit. And 52hrs of labour is no fun!

Lunamom Yikes! You win on the size of your babies and the length of your labors. My first was 8lbs 8oz, 56 hrs and a separated pelvis....but that's all I can complain about. The second was 6lbs 1oz and 4hrs, the third was 7lbs 3oz and 6hrs....mind you the third was stuck for about 2hrs...so if he had cooperated it would have been quicker. I totally agree with you....hard work but worth every second of labor

I went straight into hard labor. No warning. She was breech and after 6 hrs. and only6 cm. they stopped the labor and said b/c I wasn't 'birth proven' I had to have a c-sec. You mean to tell me after 6 hrs. we just make a snap decision like that?? Her heart rate dropped dramatically.
6 lbs. We called her 'Peanut.' and 'Toots,', and lots of other silly names.
At 26, I remind her that she's been a pain in the toockus all her life!!! She just laughs.
She gave birth to a 4' 12" preemie. She was 7.5 weeks early. He is delayed. But my precious 'Pumpkin.'

Sassy a separated pelvis?! and you say it like "ugh no big deal" oh sure.....(sarcasm) And Trigger I can't imagine having to deal with a breech baby. My sister in law just did and it wasn't pretty. Mine were big babies and long labors but thankfully my recoveries were all speedy so really it was straight forward. My first is turning 13 tomorrow....YIKES a teenager! But yeah, she will never live down her 52 hr labor. She will hear it even when she is old and grey.

Hi, Luna;

That's funny. My baby is great though. I can see the moodiness sometimes, but overall she is my right hand "man." My hubby is a wonderful guy, but lots of times he is more of a kid than she is. She is mature for her age. Although she can be very bossy to her brother, and whenever I think that it will be easy, she will do something kid like. It's like God is reminding me that she is a still a kid. She lost her best friend a year ago to an undiagnosed brain tumor and it really hurt our family. The only good thing I can think of that came from that tragedy is that my daughter has told me that she wants to always make sure that we have a good relationship..This came out of her mouth at 11! I'm really weepy today for some reason. I dreamt last night of her friend and I had an argument with my husband and this whole 13 years is hitting me really hard right now. DANG IT COMPANY WHEN MY EYES ARE RED AND WEEPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need a drink!
