Ok, I really wanted to share a personal true story about an interaction with my dd.

A couple of weeks ago you may remember that I had put a post on here regarding dd’s fundraiser.  In addition to here, I sent an email to our friends and family.  In response to this I had two co-workers help out, one sending me a check for $100 to order him some things for his grand daughters and one sending me a check for $120 for dd to order whatever SHE wanted because they didn’t really need anything.  Well, I was on the phone with my dd while I was driving home on a Friday after work telling her about these two people and I explained to her that this is what comes from treating people kindly and respectfully. (I have to tell you that I have never actually met these two workers as they work at different locations for my company).  Well if this was the end of the story it would be great by itself, but there is more…

That evening dd & I went to a thrift store close by to find some 50’s type clothing for a party we were going to.  While we were there dd saw something she liked and asked if she could go look at it.  Since I could see where she would be I told she could.  After she got to it, she was trying to get my attention but I didn’t hear her so a lady at the end of the row I was in got my attention for her.  At this point she showed me this humongous stuffed lion, I asked how much it was, she said $10.  I told her to let me finish what I was doing and we’d talk about the lion.  A couple of minutes later, the lady at the end of the row came up to me, introduced herself (at which point I thought, “Oh no, what did I do?” giggle) then she asked if dd was MY dd (now I’m thinking, “OH no, what did SHE do?” giggle giggle) anyway, after contemplating NOT claiming her, I said Yes, she is my dd.  Well the lady then proceeds to tell me that when my dd went to go past her to get to the lion she said “Excuse me, please.” The woman then said she was just so impressed with her manners especially since so many kids nowadays are not taught manners and politeness for some reason.  She then asked me if I would allow her to give my dd the $$ for the lion.  faint  I was so proud of my dd and I couldn’t think of a legitimate reason to tell her no, so I said that would be nice and thanked her!  The woman then went to my dd and asked her what her name was (at which point the look on my dd’s face was, “OH NO, what did I do??”  rofl rofl) Then the woman handed her the $$ and told her exactly why she was doing it!!  After we thanked her profusely (& picked dd off the floor) we loaded this monstrosity into our cart and I reinforced what I had told her earlier that afternoon about the rewards of treating people with respect and kindness.  Both of my children have always been taught to help others and to try to be friends with everyone, especially the child in their class that everyone is picking on or ignoring.  My ds is always trying to protect those smaller than him (except his sister giggle) and dd just loves to make others happy!  I am so proud of my dd because of this event!!

Ok, I am done bragging!  giggle!!

You should brag and be very proud.  It is so rare to find people now days that actually teach proper manners and respect.  Much less that there are kids that listen and learn.  Congratulations to both you and dh for all you do to be great parents.

Hey Jyp, that is really an awesome story all the way!  Sounds like you've done an exceptional job instilling those "old" values into your children.   Kudos to ya for that!

How close has she gotten to her goal, BTW?

She made it to 76 items which earned her a video camera plus some other prizes!  That is much better than she has done in the past.  Thanks for asking! bighug
