Hi everyone I have been reading some of these posts now for a couple of days.  I am currently trying to get back into MK.  I really just want to get my product 50% off and not to comfortable with the idea of buying stuff from people I don't know.  And yes i did say, BACK IN.  In 1999, when i was 19, I had signed up for the opportunity.  I tried it, it's hard to make a business a go.  I had a few customers, girls I worked with really and family.  Well in 2000 i was accepted into college, and quit MK and sold back my inventory.  Now 7 years later, I want back in.  I really do love the product and I'm sick of paying so much for it...lol...i shouldn't complain the stuff at the mall is priced about the same.  So my consultant and I wrote a letter to MK and i signed a new agreement, hoping they will let me back in.  I've been with this consultant for 2 years now, and by the way she is one of my patient's, I'm a dental hygienist.  I feel kinda bad cause I know I'm only doing this for me, I'll probably be inactive most of the time.  But if I get back in why not?  What are your thoughts?

 :hello:

My personal opinion on this is "Don't do it"... Even for personal use. It is just not worth it. You will still need to place a minimun of $200 wholesale at least every two to three months just to get the 50% discount, (Do you need that much product for personal use?). You still need to buy a kit (for what???) and as long as you are in MK you will be pressure to do more (who needs that?). There are also many more reasons why not to do it.  However, ultimately it is your choice. We are here to help and support each other.
As far as ordering from strangers... Paying through Paypal or Google checkout (for example) is easy and safe. From personal experience I have had nothing but great buys/sells/trades with the PL ladies. They are in my opinion, very trustworthy, intelligent, easy to work with and very friendly. I have not personally met any of them, but feel connected and very comfortable in the PL community.
Good luck.

I totally agree - DON'T DO IT! You are going to spend more money trying to stay active to get it 50% off than you would if you just order from your consultant. Seriously figure that out - every three months you must place a $200 order to get the 50% off. So let's see that is 4 times a year X $200= $800 a year not including your kit! So you have to buy the kit and then the stuff you really want - what is that going to cost and then when you are ready to reorder it is $200 of stuff most of that you won't need just to get to the $200. I have made several trades/sells/buys here on PL and they have all been wonderful, great, fresh product. You are better off not being a consultant. But it is really up to you. Just make sure you really think through how much money you will have to spend to get the 50% discount opposed to what you would spend if you spent retail for ONLY what you really need/want.

Thanx for your input guys...so i guess i have another question.  I do realize that you have to place a $200 order every 3 months to be active for the discount at 50%.  However, I thought after 6 mo you could place another $200 to be placed in active again.  And you only had to place one order of $200 per year to remain a consultant.  So technically don't I only have to place one order per year to have the discount?  Maybe I'm missing something here?!?

That's true - one order every 12 months. I had several of my downline do that.

However - consider that you may be able to get your product without shipping or tax here, and you'll be helping out lots of ladies who have mounds of inventory on their shelves. You also will be able to get current products, hostess gifts, limited editions as well here - all without going back and spending your $30 to get back in, getting the requisite spam from the company, getting the pressure from a director or higher, and feeling obligated to buy $200 every time you run out of something and want to order before your year is up!! If you're not buying for customers (and even then - if you're supporting a small customer base), then you're far better off here purchasing from both current and inactive or terminated consultants than you would be risking getting sucked into the pink vacuum again. And there are plenty of current consultants on here who can get you what you need. Many have gotten in, seen the blinding light of what the company has become, and are getting out as quickly as possible. This way, you get exactly what you want when you need it (I personally don't have money to buy all my year's makeup and skin care once a year), and you don't get taken to the cleaners by some of the manipulative people who can really sweet talk you into doing things you don't realize you've done until you're knee-deep into it.

Don't Do It. I am one of the MK liquidators here on the site. I can tell you that there are many many ways to get your MK product at cost or less. One of the reasons I liquidate is to help consultants that are trying to get out from under the enormous debt they accumulate from signing up to be a MK consultant. My best friend went through this 6 years ago and that's how I got started selling MK. I can't tell you how awful I feel when I can't purchase inventory from a struggling consultant/ex-consultant. But, the simple truth is that there are SO many women that have inventory to liquidate - for a variety of reasons. I can tell you that my waitlist is over 20 consultants long - these are women I've had to turn down because I am overstocked at the moment. I wish I could buy everyone's inventory every time they contact me, but sometimes I can't.  I feel like I'm rambling now, but I think the first 3 words of my reply sum it up!

Good luck!

Are you my long lost twin?  I was in MK the first time in 2001 but then I got out when I went back to college.  I didn't send my inventory back, and I decided that I would go back later on in life.

I re-signed in 2005 thinking I would be mostly personal use, and I thought I had a less pushy director... that is, until my next door neighbor/recruiter decided to go DIQ.  I was peer pressured into ordering more, doing the business more, etc.

I went to seminar, which really opened up my eyes, and came home to google criticisms of MK and found this site.  My now director was doing even shadier things than my original director, and I decided that I needed to step back.

I was here for about 6 months before I boxed it up and shipped it back.  I am like you, I like the products, so it was a tough decision, but in the end it was the right decision.  The ladies who sell here are trustworthy, and I get a good deal whenever I am out of something.  Plus, I know I am helping them to dig out of their own pink holes.  If I tally up what I have spent in the past 6 months on MK here, it's definitely not $200, which has reinforeced my decision.

You should look into the philosophical reasons why people here are no longer in MK.  Do you want to be a part of an organization that promotes women to amassing huge amounts of credit card debt, while the few at the top reap the benefits?  These are tough decisions that only you can decide for yourself.

Also, for you to return to MK as a consultant who returned inventory, they are probably going to expect that you come back with a star order, which is more than  you would need for yourself!

I hope you find a welcoming group here.  We do have consultants who are productive members at our site, so please don't feel like you aren't welcome or don't fit in.

First of all,  a big welcome.   You'll get alot of support here.

I wish I had found this site BEFORE I joined "back up".  I thought I would order only what I needed and be happy with that.  Unfortunately, I joined with the same director that I originally had who obviously won't take "NO" for an answer.  I thought that if she knew from the start that I would only want it for my own use, I wouldn't get the pressure to Keep Up with everyone else.  To make a long story short, I'm currently waiting for my one year with no order to pass so I can be terminated FOR GOOD!  I didn't like the fact that if I tried a new product and it was the wrong shade, etc. I was stuck with it.  Can't return it because I'm a consultant!   :gah:  Get the products you want here....I haven't found a woman on here yet who doesn't know what it is like to be "taken" by  Kaybot  I doubt that the company today is what Mary Kay had in mind when she started the company.

The $30 is roughly the re-signing fee, unless, since you sent your product back, they may make you start all over and spend the $100 for the full kit. Which, in retrospect, I'm sure you would have to do.

Wow, once again, you ladies amaze me.  Brilliant, compassionate, intelligent, thoughtful and helpful.  I am so proud to be a part of this community!

You have gotten great advice!  Welcome, and please continue to read and check all our stories out.  We are from many backgrounds, got in for many reasons, got out for many reasons too...  For me it was the response letter MKC wrote to the FTC regarding proposed regulations within the industry.  VOMIT.

Also, many of us who LOVED the product have now found others that work much better, so look at our makeup board for some ideas on that front.

And keep asking questions -- we are happy to voice our opinion...  rofl rofl

Hi maybpink???.  LOL...cute name. smiley

It's true that you only have to order $200.00 w/s once a year to retain your consultantship, but you will open yourself up to the hardsell, maybe not from your recruiter, but from higher up the food chain.

And, "Also, for you to return to MK as a consultant who returned inventory, they are probably going to expect that you come back with a star order, which is more than  you would need for yourself!"  I've heard this too.  They want you to spend the big bucks to show that your serious.

If you want to get your product at w/s, this is a great place.  If you look below the name of each member, you'll see how many trades they've done.  We also have a section on the Trading Board that shows who the good traders are.  You may safely place your trust in those members.

There are a few products that I love still and I get them here.  No problems and it does help someone trying to get out from under their MK debt.

Anyway, sermon over.  We're glad you're here.

I am currently not active. I am devoted to the products and prefer to get them FRESH from the company. My last order was in September. This September I will place a $200+ order for a year's supply of my family's favorite products. That should last me to next September.

Ergo, it only takes one minimum $200 order per year, to remain personal use.

Hey maybpink??!!   :hello:

You have gotten great advice already, but just let me add my  twocents   !!

DO NOT do it!!  It's not worth it!  Buy from everyone here who has stuff to sell... we all want to clean out our closets and pay off our debt!  Besides... once you are a consultant again it's just way too easy to be sucked back in... purchasing far more than you'll ever need, etc.
