Hello everyone!  I've been in MK for about 5 years.  Not sure exactly why I got in - other than for the discount for personal use.  Somehow in the I got caught up in it and thought I could do more, so I bought the inventory.  It's been the same story with me for the past 5 years.  I do a few classes for a few months then I don't do anything for several more months.  I still have inventory on my shelf - and the credit card debt to prove it!  I keep telling myself I either need to give it up or push it.  Either way, I need to pay my credit cards.  I've had enough in small orders come in that I am always able to pay the minimum on my card - so I don't have to ask DH for money.  I am usually one who researches things well before I jump in.  Have no idea why I didn't this time!  I have no one to blame except myself for choosing to sign the agreement or choosing to buy inventory and choosing to push or not push my business. I thought I could use the extra money to help pay off student loans and have some money for spending on vacations, etc.

My director is in Ohio while I am in another state.  I went to meetings for several months under an adopted director.  They didn't treat me as one of the group.  I could only go to certain meetings on certain dates.  I couldn't participate in their "recognition" night.  I later found out that they aren't supposed to do that, they are supposed to treat you as one of their consultants.  After I quit the meetings I never really pursued going to another director.  I kept in contact with my director in Oh.  She is really great.  Never any pressure and answers my questions with out judging me.

I work full-time in education and have 2 children.  I love spending time with them and my husband.

Anyways...  I'm really questioning what I am doing. I have several good customers.  I even have a couple of classes on the calendar.  But, I'm not sure what to do anymore.  I found this site and thought I'd check it out.  Maybe help me make a decision. I'm also debating starting my own business.  I work in technology and have thought about creating videos from pictures.  I know there are businesses out there that do that, but they all seem so expensive.  I have done several videos for work and for family members.  My thought was to let people know I do this and charge a nominal fee of between $30 and $50.  I don't know.  Still feeling kind of guilty for the money on the credit cards from MK.

Anyways... happy to be here!

*welcome  techi2, glad you found us.  You will find answers to your questions and lots of nice people here!

My advice would be to call MKC and see what you are eligible to return and return what you can't sell or personally use and use that money to help pay off your CC.  Then try what you like...making movies out of people's pictures!

Read some of the other topics on the board and get some more info.  Glad you are here!  :hearts :hearts :hearts

Hi techi2!  :hiya:

Welcome to the board! Sounds like you are doing some soul searching.....I hope this board helps you discover the answers you are needing to find!

I like lippie's idea of finding out what you are eligible to return....however you need to do what's right for you!

No matter what you choose I hope you stick around! We actually do have fun around here and it's not all MK chat either!

This board became the best part of my MK experience!  :bliss:

Hi techi2!   *welcome  Glad you found us!  Well, you do have to decide for yourself, but your situation sounds so similar to mine in that I was on and off, never steady (because bookings/sales aren't steady!), and then I'd ponder calling it quits or just pushing harder.  Before I found this site, I thought calling it quits meant just eating the bill for what I'd spent on MK.  You can send your inventory and even some demos back as long as you purchased stuff in the last year.  Because I didn't know this, I 'restarted' my MK 'business' over and over.  I'd send out flyers/emails touting new products and big discounts, and usually only make a few sales from it.  But then I had to order to fill those orders, for any products I didn't have.  It doesn't make it easy to get rid of what you have when MK keeps changing the products out either!  If I were you, I would recommend doing a 50% off at consultant price sale, a big, get-rid-of-it-all MK BOGO (buy one get one free) sale.  Then I would sell off what I could on the trading boards here, and then whatever hasn't sold by the date MK gives you to postmark it all by, I'd send back.  But, like I said, you have to do what's right for you.
Oh, I just looked up and saw lippie's post saying the same basic thing!  :doh  :teehee:  Oh well, now you know you're not the only one constantly trying to push "re-start" on your MK business.  Love

 *welcome *welcome

Great advice thus far from these ladies.  I did exactly what RTP did -- had a 50% off sale for two weeks, and then sent everything else back.  I was only in a year so I got to send it all back, but you can send back the products you have that aren't selling/trading, and keep the others to get rid of here on our trading board.

Any decision you make -- good luck!  And hope you will hang around -- like Sassy said, we talk about alot more than mary kay!

:hello: My name is Erin, I just recently stopped being a super active MK consultant myself. I completely understand how you feel about the whole adopted director thing, and I'm sorry that happened to you. I think this is a decision you're going to have to make for yourself - and not let anyone push you  one way or another. As for the classes - well, only a few people had parties for me, so I think that's great! But it does make your decision harder to make. One good way to start selling some of that inventory, though, is to send out an email to your existing customers, offering them a significant one-time discount on all purchases. That's what I did, and I got a couple of bites. At least you'll be able to pay your credit card bill - minimum or more!

I hope some of my ideas helped - Erin  Love
