Since it's been so long since I shopped the department store for cosmetics, I don't know what brands do anymore.

Clinique used to do gifts with purchase several times a year.  And you only had to buy around $20.

Do other brands (Lancôme, Mac, Estee Lauder, etc) do this?  And do you know approximenly how much you have to buy to get the gift?

Thanks!

Give me a few weeks and I will be a pro at shopping dept. store cosmetics!  I think they only do them certain times of the year, but I know the ones where I work do them (Estee, Clinique, Lancome)  They also do something called a purchase w/ purchase... you buy something and you can buy their purchase w/prurchase for ex. $25.00.  I noticed at Estee yesterday it was a really cute brown bag w/ makeup bag, 9 eyeshadow compact, lipliner, I think a lipstick and something else for $24.50.  You can probably look on their web sites and find out what they are offering.

ok, I checked Estee and Lancome sites  and couldn't find any info on gifts, so I guess it must be at the stores only  crying

You and me both.  But I'm a sucker for free gifts and since I'm ready to experiment in the makeup department, I'll gladly take anything free.   rofl
Seems like I remember Clinique did the gifts a few times a year.  I'm sure with Christmas coming, someone will probably have something going on.  I'll just replace as I run out (like I said in another thread).

Too bad we don't live near each other, we could shop for new makeup together.   smiley  I see you are in the south too.  Wonder if we live near each other?

Not close but not too far away.  I'm in NC

We probably have the same stores (Belk, Dillards, Macy's, Nordstrom).  If I see a GFP, I'll try to remember to post.  I would rather buy at Belk, love that store credit card.   smiley

Here's tha dope yo!  (sorry--weird day)---

The individual counters (vendors) will have a different gift with purchase (gwp) or purchase with purchase (pwp) at each of the dept. stores they are in.  So if Belk doesn't have a gift, chances are macy's might.  They don't do a gwp at two dept stores at the same time.  Also, they will schedule it so no two counters in the same store have gwp at the same time.  So when Clinique is in gift at Macy's, Estee Lauder isn't, but Lauder might be in gift at Dillards. The gifts will be slightly different at each store, too.  While the bag might be purple at nordstroms, it may be black at macys.  Don't get too carried away though--the lipsticks tend to be the same old thing year after year. I personally think the pwps are pretty nice sometimes.  PS--if you want to really annoy the sales person, ask her what the cheapest thing you can buy is where you will still get the gift.  Or how much does a makeover "cost"  Another tip--although they can be pretty strict about gwps, they almost always have a pwp somewhere you can buy.  If you go when they aren't too busy, they might even get one for you to buy from the back room.   globemn

If you don't mind me asking, how do you like your job?  I'm keeping my options open for something PT, if and when we ever have children.  Did you just go to the store and apply?

I like it ok, I am in the office part time, mostly weekends.  I have only been there about 2 months.  It fits what I need perfect right now, because I do have small children.  I don't have to go into the store but one time, I don't have much customer interaction (which I like, most of the time).  My biggest problem is that I spend more than I am making giggle  with my discount.    :present

Lauder does that great makeup PWP around Xmas. Its a bunch of makeup with any fragrance purchase for about 45 bucks last time I was involved. We had our GWP or PWP up on certain dates, then it had better be either gone or taken down after. We did have ours the same time as Macy's but we were and independant pharmacy and had different rules.

I have a friend who has a personal relationship with someone at every clinique counter in every store in metro Atlanta.  She has so many free lipsticks and bags--UNREAL.  I think she finally started having a friend sell them on ebay.

And the funny thing is that she can't use the yellow moisturizer that comes in every single gift with purchase.

I used to use clinique and seriously never ever had a full sized bottle--I always had enough samples!
