Hi, I've got really tricky skin too and I've used Proactiv. I don't think my kit cost that much though, I ordered from the infomercial but didn't sign up to their club. You can use the refining mask as a spot treatment at night, or rub it in to problem areas in a very thin layer during daytime (maybe that only works on my cuz I'm about the same color as that mask!).
After you've finished with the toner/mask-spot-treatment/moisturizer, you can put a different moisturizer of your choice over all of it and it will seep through. If your face feels like it's going to crack when you move it, you need to add something. It's the sulfur stuff in the mask that works so well. The cleanser is good for getting rid of clogged pores, esp. ones on forehead that look like braille from an angle in good lighting.
I don't use it all the time, because I have some dryness, and because I want to address other things, not just acne (like anti-aging and wrinkle reversal). I now use it as needed, usually for about one week every month,

but always with other products in the mix. I don't usually use their cleanser unless it's really bad or I'm getting "braille-y" again. I had horrible acne during my early teenage years and this is the best thing I've tried yet. My DD, however, is at that early end of the teen years and has had really bad acne. She was using the proactiv and while it worked somewhat, it didn't make everything perfect. So she picked up some stuff in a kit at Walmart, it's in orange bottles, and it says "Better than Proactiv" on the front. It's called AcneFree, Severe Acne Treatment System by University Medical. The bottles look bigger too. Well, I hope something withing all this rambling helps you!
