So what do you do when you are fed up with MK color? Where should you go for assistance, the local department store makeup counter? If so what brand?
I feel like I've been in a pink bubble for the past 8 years. I look at fashion/makeup magazines and feel lost and so out of date. I'm turning 30 next year and I don't want to be out of date. I want to be the hip current person I was before MK.
I used (and hated) Clinique before MK. I like some MK products, hate others.
Thanks for your thoughts!

Hope that helps!

Depends totally on your look and age, but I like Prescriptives. I haven't tried the Bare Minerals, but my daughter uses it and it looks great (she's 19 and struggling with acne since she went to college). I actually like L'oreal's colors--I've had a lot of luck just buying at Walgreen's. Some of the big drugstores have great cosmetic depts.--bigger than Target or Walmart. A lot of people really like MAC, but I've never tried it. I never have time to hang around a dept. store to have my makeup done anymore. Good luck and have fun shopping!

I used to use MAC, but got tired of spending the high price for such a small amount of product. For a dash of color (since I don't wear a lot usually) I still love Wet n' Wild - it's so inexpensive so you can experiment with different colors and styles. I've also liked the Almay products that I've tried, which is only their eye colors.
The mineral eye shadows and liners are new to me, but I really like the way they look and blend together. As inexpensive as the samples of Lynn's are, I am planning on trying a couple.

You guys, I just got this Body Shop Lip and Cheek stain, and I LOVE IT! We tried it on 5 or 6 people and couldn't believe it, but it worked on everyone! It just looks like you pinched your cheeks...I like their foundation too. Goes on super smooth. Just tried Aveda mascara and can't say I'm in love with it. It goes on super smooth, but I'm wearing it on my pink-pinched cheeks after about 4 hours.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll be sure to check them all out soon. I'm going on vacation next week, so it will be after that.
One question about the minerals in general. I HATED to old, about 5 years ago, LTD edition MK eye shadow that was like powder in a small pot (I don't remember the official name). Are the minerals like that?

Hi Ginger,
I'm not sure what MK's products were like, but minerals do come in a jar with a sifter. They are a totally loose makeup. What did you not like about the pots? Maybe I can be of more help once I know.

I used Mary Kay only for 4.5 years. I know...sad, sad. Every once in awhile, upon walking out of Ann Taylor, I would glance at Sephora across the mall hallway and steel myself for the longing to go in there. I was such a good Director...I never gave in to the temptation to go in. I made the final decision to leave Mary Kay on a Friday evening. Saturday morning at 9:45, I was on the bench outside of Sephora waiting for them to open. I walked in slowly, with bright eyes and a fast-beating heart. Savoring the smells and sights of makeup, skin care....and none of it Mary Kay. The perfectly polished woman asked if she could help me, and I said, "I'm coming out of Mary Kay hell and I want to try everything!" She laughed and said she had heard it before. How long since my last makeup fix. When I said 4.5 years, she eagerly led me to the makeover area and started playing makeup with me for an hour. I was so happy!!!!!! I could hardly sit still. Now, she knows me by name, even though I don't purchase that much. (I'm too frugal to buy an ounce of skin care with 3 Miracle Sets untouched in my bathroom.) After leaving Sephora, I floated into Bath and Body Works and tried every fragrance. I'm sure I smelled awful when I left with all those scents mingling. I am not too frugal to throw away my half-used bottle of Belara and wear B&BW Sensual Amber. I feel like a kid in a candy store! BTW - Clinique hasn't changed much in 4.5 years - still only for women with oily skin and lots of junk that clogs my pores.

Thanks Lynn. the MK pots were small pots with no sifter. They seemed to attach to the brush and you couldn't tap much off. So I always had too much and looked like Halloween. LOL The jar with sifter sounds like a fabulous idea. I hope to order some samples soon. Ginger

Oceanlover, I plan to do the same as you. Come this Saturday morning I will help Sephora open the doors. And after I'm done there I am going to the local department store makeup counters. I am so excited, like Christmas is coming or something. I do dread the trial and error part. But I know the end will be worth it. Right now I really just need a daily sunscreen (the new day solution breaks me out) and some kind of eye cream.

What? The little pots of eye color? I honestly don't remember what they were called. I think they were from winter/Christmas 99 or 00.

Oh !! Those little LE pots of eyeshadow from years ago - know where I saw those the first time? At a meeting at the Holiday Inn on Dryden Rd (Dayton Ohio), where my consultant got me to go to a meeting because she said she needed "face models", and I would get a free product for "helping her out"! LOL!!! After sitting through a forced makeover, listening to a sales director go ON AND ON about her horrible divorce and how MK saved her life, I never got that free product - but I ended up with that loose eyeshadow all over my eyes. When I got home, my dad said "you look like a vampire". (purple lipstick, too!) sorry that just brought back memories.....carry on.

I have tried a gamut of manufactures since leaving MK but they either break my face out or make me look like a wanna be 17 year old..... at nearly 40 I do not desire to look like I put my make up on, in the closet with the lights out!!
