I'm on the hunt for a new mascara. (My mom still uses the MK hence the ISO) Anyway, I have long, pale, straight lashes. Without mascara it looks as though I don't have any. The length of my lashes are plenty on their own. So I'm looking for recommendations on a good black mascara that really, truly thickens and separates. Oh, and doesn't irritate sensitive eyes.
Thanks.

What type of mascara budget do you have? I have found a couple of really great ones, but they are kind of expensive. My favorite is Laura Mercier, which is really costly, but it does not irritate my eyes at all, which has been an issue even with MK mascara. My lashes are dark, but thin and straight. I started using MK as a teenager and have ever since, so after realizing that there is much more out there, I have had so much fun!

Have you read "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me, 6th Edition" by Paula Begoun? I HIGHLY recommend it. Some of the reviews might be a bit outdated, but most are current. Now Ms. Begoun updates via her website http://www.cosmeticcop.com (see product reviews on the left side about half way down) and a paid newsletter available on her website. I also enjoy looking at makeup reviews at http://www.makeupalley.com I think you have to join to read reviews, but it's free and I've never gotten any spam or anything from it. I too am searching for my holy grail mascara. I've found a few that were ok, but not HG.

this is my latest find, Avon Superfull mascara. I have tried Lancome and Great Lash and this so far is the best. I do have long, thick lashes and I like lots of mascara (I like a dramatic eye!) The Lancome differentials was a little clumpy and smudged(and 21.00!). The great lash was ok at first then I noticed it was running all over my eyes! The Avon has one of those neat little brushes with short bristles and it separates and doesn't clump, and STAYS PUT! I got it on a special for 4.99 but it is only 8.50 reg. I think with Avon if you don't like it they are like Mk and will refund or exchange for you also!

LOreal has a great one that doesn't add too much bulk to your lashes. I love it over MK. It's called featherlash. It is in a silver tube and runs about $5-7 depending on where you shop. hope you find one you love! <3 Queenbee

Thank you everyone. I guess I'll just have to take one suggestion at a time and give it a try.

At least with mascara, I throw it out every 3 or 4 months. It's not like a lipstick that lasts forever. LOL Please share when you try something and how you like it.

I am a huge fan of Maybeline mascaras. I have heard great things about Avon mascaras, but I have yet to actually try it. I have a few close friends that have pale eyelashes (red heads and blondes) and I always advise them to steer clear of dark mascara during the day. If you want to go dramatically dark, I think a brown-black is very pretty. You get the dark lashes, but not so black you look overdone. I'm African American, and always used black mascara (my mother is darker and always uses black, so like mother, like daughter). My aunt is the one who suggested brown black to me because you can get the dark smoky look without the edgy drama. Now for weekends, or nights on the town, or "merit" review days, I go for the jet black.

I am trying new mascaras. I really liked endless performance. Do not like any of the new MK mascaras. They clump too much. I have been trying the maybellene intense volumexxl and lash stylist. I liked the xxl but couldn't find the waterproof formula. Do they make one? I like the wand with the lash stylist, it's waterproof but I can't get it all off with MK eyemakeup rem. Does anyone have any recomendations?

They do make the Volume XXL in waterproof, it's getting harder to find. And it's a doozy to remove if you don't have eye makeup remover.

I always get the Clinique sample when I buy so much in foundation and powder. Their brushes hold too much mascara, but that's always been a problem for me. I always drag my brush through a paper towel to get rid of the excess before I apply it. I do need some more of those mascara applicators, I hate loading up the one in the bottle with paper towel lint.

Sally's Beauty Supply sells them, so you don't have to buy them from MK.
