Back to it! Determination!

« on: January 14, 2007, 10:03:51 AM »

I am in need of a good shampoo that I can buy at the store. I have dry scalp (not dandruff just really dry skin) and so many of the shampoos cause my dry scalp to flake more. I usually have it only in the winter. I need a shampoo and conditioner that won't make my head itch or dry out (I guess it itches because it's dry). Most hair dressers recommend the expensive stuff they have, but I have had problems with those too! Ugh! Help! Please! Thanks!  :blowkiss

I use cholesterol to condition once a week. I have hard water and winter really dries me out. It is really cheap and you can get it in a drugstore. Look in the african american hair care section.

Good stuff Julie . i love it too. Also look for a shampoo that is sulfite free. I go to my regular store but they have an organic section. The Giovanni brand is good.

Biologe HYDRATING Shampoo and Condigtioner are great --- I use the "knock off" brand from Sally's Beauty Supply.

Thanks for the help ladies. I couldn't find the Cholesteral and the Giovanni was too expensive for what you get for my wallet right now anyway! I remembered that Jody from Day Break Lavender farm recommended Dr. Bronners Lavender liquid soap. I bought a little 4 oz. bottle and used about a tablespoon (I have really long hair too) I LOVE this stuff! I ended up getting Avalon Organics conditioner (from the natural foods section), I'm not sure that I like it, we'll see when I go to brush my hair (I have super fine hair and a ton of it)! Anyway, I REALLY recommend the Dr. Bronners soap though, they also make a baby shampoo!  Love

I just got on the Dr. Bronner website and found this, Oh, Oh

For shampoo, wet hair and scalp very thoroughly, squirt some soap into hands and work into a lather. Wash hair, then rinse well. Because soap can be drying for most hair types, using it as a shampoo is not one of our formal recommendations. Nevertheless, many people are fond of using it as such. People with short and/or curly hair seem to have the best luck using it for shampoo. Those of us with fine, straight hair sometimes feel it is difficult to rinse well. A dilute vinegar rinse is the best way to remove any residue.

I LOVED how it rinsed from my hair! I have straight, fine hair and like I said, a ton of it! We'll see if it continues to work for me!

You can get a HUGE tub of it from Sallys smiley

Wash your hair like you normally do.

Take about 1/4 cup of the hair cholesterol and put it in the microwave for a few seconds (Just to warm it up really good)

Massage the cholesterol into your scalp for about 5 minutes (Make sure you press firmly, and DONT use your nails)

Then put a plastic shower cap (You can get those too at sallys for dirt cheap) on and sit around for about 30 mins or as long as you want.  Heck you can even sleep with it in your hair!!

Rinse and shampoo like you normally would smiley

I used to do this to a bunch of my hair clients who had scalp problems.

You know what else works well??  Shampoo and towel dry your hair.  Squeeze about 4 vitamin E capsules into your hands and massage THAT into your scalp!  Its amazing!

Thanks sox. I bought some and I followed the directions, which say to put in hair and rinse then style as usual! OMG, It looked like my hair never dried that day!!!! LOL. I don't have chemically damaged hair, but just really dry scalp. It seemed to have worked.
