A new consultant in my unit was told that she needed to place a mandatory $200 wholesale order within the first 2 months of signing up. I thought that inventory was OPTIONAL..

Is this true??

Yes, you're right. Inventory is optional. The only reason to place a $200 order is to get your 50% discount and stay "active." Active is no big deal unless you have a lot of personal recruits. Being inactive, you will miss out on collecting commissions from their orders. If the new recruit wants to get orders from people and put her order in when she reaches $200 she will get the discount. That is how a lot of people start when they don't have the cash up front to order inventory. It also may work out better since she will be ordering what people want, rather than trying to guess what will sell and having to order more if she guesses wrong. If she puts in an order for less than $200 she will have to pay full price for the products. She will have to place a $200 order within 12 months to stay in the company. That is the only mandatory order I have heard of.

When you place a $200 you have the discount for the next three months. Make sure you do it at the beginning of a month because they count the current month you place the order in as month #1 even if it is the last day. In other words if you order Dec. 30, Dec counts as your first month of discount even though you only get the 30th and 31st. Aint that a rip? LOL

They just want to get her "active" so she counts on the books towards all of their goals and whatnot. Not to mention they want her to start looking around and get caught up in the excitement of ordering -- hopefully order even more than that $200 wholesale, thus padding their commissions and unit numbers. Honestly, inventory is nice, but SOOO not worth it. The consultant should find out for herself what her clients want and order as she goes, because unless its the end of the fiscal year or month, it really doesn't take long to get product at all. The only advantage to ordering a larger amount is the flat shipping rate.

My district manager talked me into ordering $1600 wholesale to start off and SHE placed the order, because she knew what "sells". I can't say I was too impressed with her choices for the most part, not to mention she totally messed up when she charged my credit cards (I broke up the purchase over 3 credit cards -- specifically told her how much to charge on each card with a $50 pad on each so I wouldn't go over my credit limit) and I ended up with 2 $39 over limit fees, because SHE had to do it and couldn't follow instruction. Your friend can order her own inventory...just tell her not to get caught up in the craziness or let anyone else take control. Its not life and death for her if she doesn't get in by the end of the month -- she's doing her recruiter and director a favor, not the other way around. I have a lot of regrets and would do SO much differently if I could do it all over again...

Yeah, isn't it funny how NONE of this is mentioned when/before you sign up?  I was told a min $ 600 was required - of course that got me "qualified"!

When I signed up March 8th of 'O3 there were other discounts, I think like 4O% and maybe 3O% which was discribed to me in detail, BUT what my recruiter neglected to tell me was that they were no longer doing those as of I believe March 15th. She also told me that I would be making a minimum of 1O% off of my recruits orders! LOL, what a scam!

Sorry, not worth it!  Take off the :rosey:

If they're anything like the Directors I worked with, they tell people they have to get a loan.

Directors in our area had a setup with a banker in our town who would get the new consultants into loans with little requirements.

The trend with Directors in our entire area (I mean area as in MK area) was to get a $3,600 order. They didn't present any options less than this. Many started at $1,800 and that was their minimum.

Pretty easy to keep your Directorship if you can get one new consultant to come in with an order like that.
