For as long as I can remember, Mary Kay pounded into our heads that the company was not an MLM, but a dual-marketing company.

From my research, dual-marketing, also referred to as co-advertising, is when two companies come together to advertise or market together.

It has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the definition that Mary Kay is trying to create.

This has always ticked me off. They tried to come up with something else to call their business structure besides MLM and this is the best they could do? Directors in meetings have even gone so far as to flat out state that MK is not MLM. They are WRONG. None of them even know what an MLM is anyway. They are just spouting words.

This is what REALLY pisses me off?  I specifically asked if my orders would benefit someone upstream and was told that this was NOT that kind of company and was totally legal.  I was really fuzzy on what MLM meant and thought surely they wouldn't lie about something that big since the lie would be revealed fairly quickly when I got into it more. . . . guess they don't care when they are recruiting you at the end of June just a week before Seminar.


Speaking of Seminar, I found it so creepy that my director was excited about the hired men (I assume they are hired) that tell you you're beautiful when they walk you into the room.  Gross!  I like to hear I'm beautiful, but not from someone who's paid to do it.

I don't know if they are hired or not, but I just assumed they were since I can't imagine why else a bunch of guys would be standing around doing such a thing.  I'm sure you guys know more about it than me. My director was just gushing about how great it was that the stage was lined with men telling all the women how beautiful they were.  I'm just a newb so I don't really know much about anything.

Sometimes I get so angry and think that MLM's should be banned completely, then I wonder if that is fair in a free society.  "Anti-MKers"?? on the other site were talking about reform in the way of having consultants give receipts with customer info on them with each sale.  I've personally seen that manipulated with someone who was a member of an MLM that required such documentation.  This person put down his mother, sister, uncle, best friend, anyone who would say they were a customer for his sales.  So that's not fool proof.  With all these businesses being run out of private homes, there is no fool proof way of regulating it.  Criminals will find a way.  It's been around for 40 yrs already with it's sketchy plan, all we can do is keep educating people and hope as few people get scammed as possible.

???  I'm soooo confused!  I thought MK was a DSA not a MLM.  Never heard the dual marketing line.

I am so confussed between the; MLM, DSA & Pyramid Scams ....
