NO.

You are now on the hamster wheel, as I like to call it.

Although the directors portray their positions as glamorous and claim they are making such great money only working a handful of hours per week, in reality they have to keep up the frenzied recruiting and inventory pushing that they did in DIQ. And when you don't, you will quickly lose your directorship.

So, if you hate DIQ, chances are you'll hate directorship.

Amen Sista-girl! smiley

They told us at "DIT" week or Director Training in Dallas (I like to call it brainwashing hell week - you know, get you away from your family, immerse you in the pink fog, flash jewels in front of you) that you had to go home and "get to work and do it all again" just like you were back in DIQ.  Hello!  Thats' why I wanted to get OUT of DIQ!  And I LOVED the little 5 minute video they showed us in one of the classes about "debt" and how a "handful" of Directors had actually spent some of their own money to make up the difference and now found themselves in debt - DUH!!!!!  We should've all gotten Academy Awards at that point because I don't recall any of us looking around the room and saying "Thank God it wasn't just ME"!

I actually have a friend who is still a Director (though she was questioning the whole gig up until recently) who just "won" her Cadillac - saw it on her Unitnet site the other day.  I'm really afraid to run in to her now because I just don't know what to say.  There was a time where I would've sold my soul/child/marriage for one of those and now I see it as such a "burden" she'll have to keep up the charade for.  Don't y'all just want to kidnap some of these women and make them sit down and really LISTEN to what we have to say!?  Not that it would've worked on me back then in my "Kay-day" - guess it's just one of those things we have to work out ourselves.  Glad to have you guys to make me feel sane again! smiley

Boy - if she was questioning it before, just wait til she has to pay all the taxes on those cadillac lease payments at the end of the year - holy crap. If she wasn't making much money before, it's probably not getting any better.

Don't worry - statisitics say she'll eventually give up the dream. Maybe not for a while - but we know the odds of her getting to NSD are practically non-existant. :(

When I watched that video at DIT, a couple of the gals started crying at the table next to me, then sobbing. After the video, the whole room started in on a "I got into credit card debt, too!" sob fest. Some just looked stricken and stayed mute (like myself - at that time, my MK cc debt was less than theirs, and I wondered how on earth they accumulated $10,000+ in debt. Stupid, naive me!) I never looked at the director that was teaching that segment. I don't remember her talking. She was probably wondering if they would ever ask her back to teach, since when she did it, everyone was commiserating on their debt load!!! :o

My director flat out told me that if I didn't want to sell anymore, all I had to do was become a director, and that I could work even less. That I'd never have to do a skin care class again! I even remember the little round table we sat at when she told me that, and the hotel breakfast room. I was like, "wow..." This was after I had voiced concern over becoming a director.

Oh my Gosh! The famous DIT video about debt, I still remember my expresion after I saw it. I couldn't believe it. When I went to DIT I felt so guilty because I thought I was the only one who  did that and then when I saw the video I was so disappointed because I never thought the company knew about it and the only thing they did was to put a video. That was the start for me to doubt the company.....

Wow!
Ever heard the mantra 'God, family and then MK'?  I need to go vomit.  Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Doesn't matter who I talk to, the debt thing keeps coming up.  Here's the sad truth.  Consultants can buy their way into any position with the company.  This means buying for themselves & essentially 'loaning' to recruits, which creates a very awkward situation when your buddy owes you 2k.  You will notice that they do not finance any of this stuff themselves.   MK has no financial liability once the product goes out their door.  So this leaves it up to the consultant to go out on a financial limb (a thin one at that).  They tell you not to do this but know that everyone does.  Show me a Cadillac & I'll bet you have some maxed out credit cards (or even a Grand Prix for that matter).

If someone comes to you asking for your to sell this stuff, run like hell.  Don't even buy it because you will be the next 'prospective recruit'.

Hi. I've been going through various websites about Mary Kay and while there are a lot of people talking about all different aspects of it no one is addressing the cars. What is the deal with people earning cars? Does Mary Kay actually GIVE people cars, title and everything? Is it the salesman's car for life even if they stop selling? How can I find out?

Hi Yisit - there's lots o' info on this. There's a thread here on UYC (forget which topic it's under) about the car - something like "those cars aren't free" in the title. Also, you can go to Sandy's blog (http://fightingfatigue.typepad.com/my_mary_kay_truth) - there's a thread there from a couple weeks ago. There's lots of info at PCs if she still has the archives up.

If you are a consultant, you can also check on MKs InTouch site in the Advance brochure online. It lists requirements.

Basics to answer you - not free, lots of requirements, LEASED for you (fleet cars) for up to two years providing you make production each month, you must re-earn it at the end of each two year period. If you don't meet your production requirements, you must make lease payments. You also have to pay a portion of your insurance - approx $75/month. If you don't make lease payments and can't make production, the company will repossess the car.

UYC - is it okay to mention other blogs on here? If not, let me know and I won't do it again. thx!

Yes, post links to blogs. Post links to sites you think are helpful. You can put them in your post. And if you think they should be included on the main site's resources page, drop me a private message or indicate it in your post.

We aren't censoring and banning here like some sites.  wink

Someone in my unit just made director.  I feel so sorry for her.  Ironically, our director just earned her caddy in the whole process.  How hard will she have to work to keep that now that she has lost a huge group of people that helped her earn the caddy on the last day of the month/seminar year???

I just know that I am glad I am not either of them now.

When I was coerced into helping my friend become a director -- I did it.  Only to find out later that she did just relax.  She never called anyone, basically had to make the payments on her car because she was not making production and ultimately lost her directorship.  She claimed that she quit because of health reasons and we all felt so sorry for her --- until we found out that she basically bought her directorship.  Can you imagine wanting a title soooooooooooo bad that you would buy it?  I surely can't.
