OK - I just have to say to all the ladies on this thread...

 yourock

My husband and I were in desperate need of financial help - and so I went out last night and got the Total Money Makeover book.  Wow!  I just spent the last 2 hours with my husband and our monthly 'budget' meeting.  We are putting the plan to action now, and I am really looking forward to making headway on our debt.

To answer your questions, you just need to get this book to understand, but it totally makes sense.  I am so glad I did!!!!!!  I will keep y'all posted on our progress.

Don't you love him??  We have been doing his thing for over a year now...  Only have one credit card with a small balance that will be paid off in 8 months.  Then we will start his "snowballing" idea and pay everything else off!

I will have student loans, mortgage and car paid off in 4 years!!  smiley  Amazing, and it feels so good to not charge stuff anymore...

The budget was kinda hard with my husband at first, but I put in plenty for golf and he is now happy!  I don't want to deprive us of any fun now, but I want to be smart and only do what we can afford...

Let me ask you - if you budget money then you don't use it (like for clothing or auto repairs..) do you roll it over to the next month for the same category, or do you apply it somewhere else?

Does he talk about that, did I miss that part?

I add any left overs or extras to that bill we are paying off first.  Or sometimes I add it to our savings, as I put smaller stuff there until I have the last cc paid off -- doesn't make sense to save too much when I am paying interest on this darn card!

I loved Dave! We followed his plan to get out of debt, but I kept one credit card for emergencies, and the card number was stolen, and they had to close the account and send us new cards the days before we were going out of town. I was really freaked out, because normally I would have used the CC and paid it off when we got home, just to be safe on the trip.

Well, I had to use cash, and debit card, and we were prepared, so we were just fine. It really proved to us that we don't need the CC, so when we get the new ones we are going to cut them up smiley

Thanks to being put on track about the Dave Ramsey lifestyle... we have our air and hotel ALREADY paid.. and cash in hand for our trip to the beach this month. I am talking sun, mariachis, pina coladas, and beach!

But I have to inject.. I also for the first time ever tithed!  the whole FIRST FRUITS ( ten percent) thing. It really DOES make a difference!

Awesome!

I have to add that we didn't cut up the new cards that came in :( and we put over 4000 on them over the last few months, here and there. I just paid it off with the tax return, and I am seriously DONE! I am so tired of learning this same lesson!!

Hey, just an update - I finished the book and we have March budget in place & have PAID OFF 1 cc!   :yays: :yays: :yays:  (Ok, so it was a little balance, but that is a start!)

Thank you soo much for the referal!  Did anyone see on his website the discussion with the MK consultant about inventory?  He suggested keeping only a couple hundred $ inventory of the fastest moving stuff!  He probably won't get too many referals from  Kaybot!

I know right!?!?

But I am seriously done now. We actually have the budget, in excel format, and I am really working it. It is a slight pain in the ass, but it makes a huge difference in how we look at money.

The Dave Ramsey software is like $18 and well worth it... you don't have to format all those cells in excel.

You can find it on his website.
