This is very popular from where I live and have gotten many rave reviews as well as people telling me that I should go too.  They say that you don't have to be low income, even though this day and age, there will no longer be a middle class the way I see things going.  The poor and the rich, that's it!!   So anyway, folks around here think this is awesome.  The meat pieces are individually wrapped (what's the phrase, freeze packed or something like that).  You must spend at least 25.00 and then you can get additional bonus items for a deeply discounted rate.  It appears as though they come to your area once a month, money needs to be into the host office prior to the items being delivered and shipped.   The stores are open only certain days of the week.

that's what we did Baroness - we called the satellite compnay and told them we were switching to cable for a cheaper package - that's when they offered us the lower rate. smiley

anyhoo - there's tons of great ways to whittle down those monthly bills!! (And the Pinkos say we must be bad money managers because we didn't make money in Mary Kay! LOL)

I have become a coupon queen!  We have literally cut our grocery bill in half!  I do the grocerygame.com where you pay a small fee and they match the lowest sales prices with the non-expired coupons and let you know when the best time to buy various items is.  I generally save 50-60%.  Even if you don't join, their message boards have areas where you can find out about free samples and rebates, great sales, etc.  There is a free list of walgreens sale items matched to coupons on thecouponmom.com.  We try to get some items for free or nearly free and donate them- my kids think this is pretty cool.
I bought all of my 3 yo's clothes for the year at a local church's consignment sale ( including 2 winter coats for $4 ea- they looked brand new!)  I got my older son's school clothes through landsend outlet online and old navy clearance- winter jacket-$2.97!)
I look online to get the codes you use to get a discount or free shipping when ordering online.  We eat out only 2-3x/month.  We order water -saves almost $2/person.
I stock up when there is a great deal.   We walk to the park, have game nights, get free kids movie rentals.
I have recipes to make your own laundry soap and stain remover, but have not tried them yet.  I cut my dryer sheets in half.
I shop throughout the year for Christmas and birthdays.
I try very hard to not impulse buy- I really think- do I really need this?  Do I have something already that will work for this purpose?  And I am learning to be patient- there are deals on almost everything if you wait.
We also shop the local farmer's market.
I am really trying to pay off the last of my debt this year and spend God's money more wisely.  It has been fun to be able to have the money on hand to help others when they need it.  I plan to continue my thrifty ways after I am debt free.  Being thrifty has actually become a fun challenge for me.  My husband laughs at me and thanks me for helping us save money.

it really is a fun game to see how much money you can save!

I decided to sponsor two children through WorldVision (www.worldvision.org)  AWESOME charity! Our monthly payments make it possible for a 13-year-old girl in China and a 9-year-old boy in Kenya to go to school and get better nutrition! Just seeing the pictures of them as they get healthier has been such a blessing. I love that charity!

Oh I sponsor one child through Compassion is so awesome! When you get the letters and pics.

Actually that has been something that has kept me grounded because I think of all those poor kids that don't have any food, so I am careful with the money I am spending...

When I need to buy a bigger ticket item (over $100), I find the product on Bizrate.com and can almost always find a great deal with free shipping (no running all over town trying to find it and using up gas!).  Then once I find the store I always go to google and type in the stores name and "coupon code" and can almost always come up with a coupon ranging from $5 off to 10% off.

Ladies- I am LOVING this thread!!!   clap My biggest issues I think are at the grocery store...I know there are more ways I can save there, but our stores won't take internet coupons...I've been clipping, but I'm also trying to eat healthy too, so coupons are not really the best option always...

Anyway, would love to hear, maybe on another thread (?) some healthy recipes that are quick and tasty. I've been cooking out of the Jenny Craig cookbook 30 meals in 30 minutes, and what I like about it is I can use rice with almost every meal in it, it doesn't have any casseroles in it (my kids just have never liked casseroles), and when I use it I'm usually spending money only on meat at the store.

Whaddaya think?  wink

you know I was always trying to save money with casseroles but my family hates them. *sigh*

My hubby is Chinese so he would love to eat rice every night, but I get really sick of rice. So it's a never-ending struggle to find recipes we can all stand.

I agree with cutting out things like satellite TV and magazines. There are lots of things like that people have that aren't really necessities.

Eating out, even fast food, is a good way to throw away money, not to mention ruin your waist line.  It adds up fast.

I pay nearly all my bills on line and save $.39 every time. Plus they get there faster.

Eating real food and not processed foods.

I'll come up with more. This is a great thread. Let's see more of these and less of those "others". Know what I mean? wink

I have become a faithful fan of Aldi's for most of my grocery shopping - when big boxes of cereal are $1.29 I just can't resist smiley  You have to bag your own things, and it's not the most aesthetically pleasing experience (everything is on pallets as opposed to shelves) but the savings are awesome.  I can easily get out of there with a full cart for $60-70 which is great when I'm trying to make it on $200 p/month for groceries.  I then head to the local market for fresh produce, and another local meat place for fresh meat at very reasonable prices.  I also watch the fliers for buy 1 get 1 free offers,  and lately there have been buy 1 get 2 free offers!!!  Woo Hoo!! 3 packs of Hotdogs for the price of 1!  smiley  Anyway, we eat a lot of rice, pasta and try to do vegetarian at least once a week.  Beans are great - you can do so much with them, they're full of protein, and they're really filling.  Okay, enough of my rambling, but something about food and budgeting always excites me...it's a game every time I do a menu and go shopping...how little can I spend this time????  smiley dance

back when I still lived in Ohio I went to Aldi's - it's awesome! I hope they have that store in TX, too.  Cheers

Dumping- we MUST talk!!!!  So I googled Aldi's and found one close!  I can't believe I haven't even heard of it!  Is it like bulk food shopping, and is it better pricing than Sam's?  I have been getting my meat there because it's just so much cheaper...must hear more.

it's not like Sam's club because that requires a membership - and if I remember correctly, it is waaaaay cheaper than even Sam's.

There are some things you can't get there, because of the nature of the savings. A lot of fresh produce isn't readily available. The fun part of Aldi's is that you have to put a quarter into the locking mechanism on the cart in order to unlock the cart from the rest and use it in the store - when you are done, if you put the cart back where it belongs you get your quarter back - it's a neat way to keep carts out of the parking lot.
Do you see why it's so cheap? They save A LOT by not hiring tons of workers. Aldi's is a very interesting experience if you've never been there before - but the savings are phenomenal!! If you plan your menus using things you can buy at Aldi's, you'll cut your grocery budget in a major way.

Another thing to try on grocery savings - www.thegrocerygame.com.  You pay to be a member, but it's only something like $10 every 6-8 weeks.  It shows you which coupons to use, which week, based on the sale rotation.  If you have the time, it's a great thing to use!!  Also, I comparison shop at Wal-mart every chance I get - this week, I got 12-pack of Pepsi & Coke for only $2.50 instead of WM's price of $4!!  I stock up when it's on sale like that.

Also, for those trying to get out of debt - go to www.daveramsey.com - Dave is AWESOME!!  My hubby & I took his Financial Peace University class last winter/spring and I think that was what finally led me to REALLY look at how my credit card was funding my MK business and that it needed to stop.   Bubble

Yes, at times the Aldi's experience is "out there" (such as yesterday for example) but most of the time it is great smiley  FFMK - we will definitely discuss...I've MAJORLY reduced our grocery spending shopping there & as it seems they are getting more popular the selection of fresh produce is getting better smiley
